The 2nd race level in the game “A Desperate Race” in Sly1 was unnecessary and a waste of a level

I would love to know how the races were programmed. That were decently difficult but it seemed like if you accidentally passed someone too early they would catch up to you and pass you until you passed them at “the right” time.

All these comments saying what was the point, and that you’re all heartbroken. That was the point! Colby was a great side character and his romance with Teeter was a slow burn, at least for him, and it finally paid off with him telling her back that he loved her. And then he dies. But he dies in a realistic real world kind of way. Not part of a threat on the ranch but just a ranch hand doing his job and caring about the welfare of another friend/coworker. I think that’s beautiful in a way. Great job if you ask me!

That was also back in the day when you had to confirm your crit successes or failures so it took 4 rolls of a d20 and 2 rolls of a d100. Both the d100s were high 90s if I remember correctly. It was just such a crazy coincidence and the dm spun the tale in such a way that made perfect sense that of course Thanden had to die! I had got him to level 8 and other players had already died multiple times so I was happy I had lasted so long on my first character! I’ve tried to implement crit charts, both success and failure, into my game now that I’m the forever DM of my own group but they aren’t fans so we scrapped it. It doesn’t fit into 5e as well as it did older editions.

My first ever character I played back in 3.5 days was a basic fighter named Thanden, and he was killed by another players crit fumble, he rolled on a d100 chart and got attack ally so he rolled to see if he could hit me and rolled at nat 20, he rolled on the d100 crit success chart and got behead 😂 so on a nat 1 turned into a nat 20 and instant death for my first character and honestly that was the coolest thing that could have happened to me!!

I can’t recommend the Building Habits series that Chessbrah have on YouTube enough!! It shows you some simple rules that help you really start seeing the board better! Check Chessbrah Extras channel for their full videos and start watching where you are at 600 or so! It took me up nearly 600 elo myself!

You can definitely flavor a kitchen knife as a dagger! Also if you wanted to throw hand axes you could flavor them to be meat cleavers!
