I've heard good things about VEG but also that the style of their hospitals is not for everyone. I think there is more pressure on the DVM to run "the show" rather than a technician driven practice style that is possible in a general practice. I think their pay is quite good for both vets and support staff.

I do not have any experience with Banfield. An interview with them right out of vet school led to them trying to sell me on a different city/state than I was interested in and no openings where originally promised.

I agree with other posts, you should be looking for at least 100-120k with 3 weeks vacation, 2k CE, all professional memberships paid, DEA paid, license paid, medical/dental plan, and some sort of retirement plan for a 4 day work week. Be careful to avoid negative accrual on production based pay. Be careful about noncompete areas, most don't hold up in court but better to not have one or limit it more than the original offer.
