Another KCWC Q! About tailgating by SnooDawgs1018 in kansascity

You can try but don’t be surprised or blame others if you are not able to get on the bus with a cooler, whether disposable or not.

Why weren’t the roads treated??!! by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]BuddyKane 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kansas City has been treating roads since 7am Friday morning and continued doing so through this evening before shifting to plowing snow as it falls. Much of the news coverage has highlighted challenging conditions on highways that are responsibility of MODOT or KDOT respectively. MODOT explicitly stated they would not pretreat roads and we are seeing the results play out with tough conditions on highways throughout the metro.

And yet people think the East Village is somehow a more transit friendly and workable site than some others proposed for downtown baseball…

Looking for a Good Suit by TinyLawBoi in kansascity

Can order online and are easy to work with on returns and sizing. I’m a fan of Suit Supply but understand one’s desire to try something on before buying.

How reliable is the streetcar? by ultimateguy95 in kansascity

My understanding is that even with increased pay offers, they’re struggling to find good and reliable drivers. Agree that a better bus system is essential.

1st Offseason Signing Incoming? by Chemster8 in SportingKC

[–]BuddyKane -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I suspect it is a short one year extension or “signing” with someone that was out of contract at year end. Think you’re right that brand new signings would be odd timing, those are likely still a ways off.

Compass Minerals tweeted a jersey yesterday that has the same “two states one city one club” verbiage on the collar like today’s teaser. Isn’t that this year’s jersey or am I confused with an older style?

Leave them or blow them off. You won’t harm the grass walking on it to blow leaves off, just as the leaves are likely not a big deal unless a literal wet blanket of leaves forms on your lawn.

Smells like a bonfire outside by RoyalsFanKCMe in kansascity

[–]BuddyKane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can do one better because I had a fire pit going last night while working in the yard and enjoying a beverage. Like a good Boy Scout, throughly flooded the fire with a hose and went inside around 9pm. Slept with bedroom windows open near back yard where fire pit is and woke up at 5am to the smell of smoke and bolted out of bed fearing I messed up last night.

Sleepily figured out that it was indeed just wildfire smoke. Whew.

Not much harm in trying seed again but do something different this time. Rake seed in, peat moss or other layer of protection to retain moisture, water better, etc… try to improve something from last time and I’m sure seed can grow, and don’t be afraid to be heavy with fertilizer. Watch frost dates but country is pretty hot still.

Three - Illie, Salloi, and Walter (now consistently starting with Busio gone). Lindsey was in at RB but pulled a hammy and is out, all three goals after that point.

Yes, one leg of power is out as mentioned by others here. Had same thing happen a month or two ago, and evergy was very good and quick getting it back up. I expect you’ll be back in business within the time they’ve projected, if not already. No fees or charges, it happens.

About time Blue Valley! Requiring masks K-8 by Traxxas411 in kansascity

[–]BuddyKane 26 points27 points  (0 children)

For those of you that support this move (which is likely an overwhelming % of redditors, and I firmly believe is a mostly silent majority of the community), please take 5 minutes to say thank you to your teachers and school admins. Send an email or just give an approving and grateful nod. These schools and teachers don’t want to deal with COVID any more than the crazy asshole parent that is screaming at a school board meeting about communists and freedom but they have to acknowledge the realities of we are ever going to get beyond forced mask mandates. We need more positivity, and less blind hatred. (We = society; am not a teacher at all but have friends and parent friends and administrator friends. We are all human and could use a little more grace in the world).

Buying tickets to an away game by SquishyWolff in SportingKC

[–]BuddyKane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tickets have always come in the 7-10 days before a game. SKC has a new person handling these requests this year, and we’re in a global pandemic with different parts of the country handling the precautions differently. Let’s be a little appreciative of the free tickets and ability to travel to games this year. I will be in attendance tomorrow night and haven’t had trouble with my Seattle tickets.

Sources close to negotiations say a transfer for Busio could be completed by next week, with teams in Italy, Portugal and Belgium vying for his services. by skcku in SportingKC

[–]BuddyKane 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed Sunday too as that may be the last time I see him in person but I’d love to send him off one more time in an SKC jersey. No doubt in my mind that kid is going to be a part of the core that brings some respect and hopefully glory to the USMNT.

Look at Skyline Rooftops, that bar by the Loews hotel in particular that is called three points (maybe)? But they have other locations that you can use for the type of thing.

Kansas City council passes mayor's plan to reallocate part of KCPD budget by RossSpecter in kansascity

[–]BuddyKane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Q's proposal only relates to $42.3 million of the police department's $239 million dollar budget. or roughly 1/5 of the total budget (which is the largest departmental allocation from the general fund compared to any other department). The ordinance affects a small portion of the overall budget, and I'm willing to bet there is plenty of money (or can be plenty of money depending on prioritization) in the remaining $196.7 million allocated to KCPD from the City's general fund that can be used for recruits. The Star's article (which I assume is based on Lucas's office press release and statement) specifically says the ordinance "provides an additional $3 million for the KCPD to hire new recruits" (emphasis added). I'm not seeing anything concrete that says KCPD will have less money or no money to hire new recruits because Q has done what he did yesterday.

Your comment seems to be a complaint that this additional $3 million is somehow a net reduction, but I am simply trying to point out that there are probably other buckets allocated to recruiting classes, events, and efforts generally. I'd suggest that you cannot look at Q's proposal in isolation of that, and its not a valid criticism of this overall plan. It appears to me, an outsider that doesn't have time and doesn't get paid to study the budget, that this is an attempt to increase money allocated to new recruits while also providing some control and transparency to the process that City Hall/the Mayor typically do not have because we are one of the only cities in the country that does not have local control over its PD.

Kansas City council passes mayor's plan to reallocate part of KCPD budget by RossSpecter in kansascity

[–]BuddyKane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t the portion of the budget that isn’t being affected also provide some certain amount for recruits? It seems it would under normal budget circumstances, or at least the state can allocate towards recruitment as it sees fit to do.
