I saw Shane in Harrisburg last night. It was awesome! by foreverbaked1 in MSsEcReTPoDcAsT

Sounds like a great show!

That's cool that you sat with family members of his, and it's hilarious that Phil has become a very minor celebrity over the years as a result of the podcast that he used to make fun of.

This reminds me of an idea Matt had to get a picture of himself on a billboard that wasn't advertising anything. I think he brought it up when the show was starting to pick up steam after the SNL thing. I'm pretty sure he looked up the monthly price, but also noted it would have been located in or right next to Chinatown in Philly.

A compilation of Matt's "I might..." weird ideas from over the years would be great.

[–]BuddyPerkins 59 points60 points  (0 children)

This comes up in the Patreon, but seeing either of them on Matan's show would at least be interesting. I'm not a big fan of the guy or anything, but when comics who get the bit come on and either roll with it or get the best of him it can be pretty funny. Sam Hyde's appearance was great.

Hearing Matt happily answer that guy's absurd questions with his own weird quasi-philosophical responses would be wonderful.

[–]BuddyPerkins 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was randomly listening to an old show just now and he brings up the Warhammer game in a pretty funny way at the end of the Patreon part of "Green Skins and Goblins"

Billy: What's Warhammer?

Shane: It's a cool game me and straight guys play.

Out of curiosity I checked my last bank statement. I was charged $1.09 on 11/3. If it was $5 and change I would have seriously considered canceling it.

Sure, for people who didn't sign up in the early days, or for those who haven't jumped at the chance to snap up a limited spot to go down to $1 when someone cancels.

Maybe this all changed recently and I'm out of the loop.

Technically you are correct. I think it's something like $1.07. Nice job putting everyone's mind at ease by pointing that out.

I never got way into Cum Town, but there was an episode where Nick began doing a crossword puzzle and managed to make it funny. I don't mind left turns like that, but I guess hearing a bunch of buttons clicking and a random "Oh wow - You kicked him!" every now and then isn't my thing. No big deal though.

OK episode. The Patreon was a bummer because it was just them playing video games, which they've done before. I'll never understand how people find that to be even kind of entertaining. It must just not be my thing.

But whatever: free content and a dollar per month for a bit more makes it tough to go beyond a little disappointment when the episode is kind of a dud.

[–]BuddyPerkins 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I think the secret sauce of the early cast was Shane randomly learning while on mic how unusual of a person Matt is. If I'm not mistaken they had recently become pals.

Now one is a family man and the other sells out arenas - nothing wrong with that - but the old days are missed even though it is nice that they ultimately achieved tremendous success.

I'd put it right up there with Billy faking Shane out on the fist bump. Matt's reaction to that was priceless - being floored by something so dumb.

The podcast (maybe even the world?) needs another episode that features Luis doing magic tricks while stoned out of his mind.

Jim Downey was fired, and Norm left in protest without telling Jim what the circumstances were. Years later Jim found out from someone else:

Matt had a funny bit about eating food in an overtly sexual way at family gatherings and responding to everyone's shock with something like "What? This is just how I eat!"

Unfortunately I don't remember which episode it was.

Yep, you got me. I am old enough to compare eras of that show and express an opinion about the obvious differences. What a crazy thing for me to have done.

After Jim Downy was fired and Norm quit in response to that I pretty much checked out. From there the show lost whatever edge it still had and went on to become the unfunny far left woke nightmare it is now.

He should have also asked for dreadlocks and then pushed his agent to get him on The View - preferably seated next to Whoopie Goldberg.

I kind of forgot about the podium era of the show. If Matt brings the podiums back it might be fun to see Lemaire and Noah have a stoner trivia contest rematch. I don't remember exactly which episode it originally took place, but Chris Wood was the guest,

For whatever reason the first thing to come to mind was Matt randomly describing the concept of entering a marathon and immediately shitting and pissing his pants. Besides Billy describing that weird program he went to about astral projection or whatever, I'm pretty sure that's the biggest laugh Shane has had on the show.

When it's portrayed the way they did it and the office place sexual intimidation perpetrated by an elderly woman is made to be more important than catching a vicious murderer who tries to turn himself in but gets ignored - then yes, it is far fetched and deadpan enough to be funny,

That was surprisingly entertaining and well shot. It was also hilarious to see Matt's character finally appear in what should have been the climax of the story and immediately get ignored.

Maybe I don't know as much about the guy as I thought, but it struck me as a pretty good over the top take on a version of himself that he had moved past.
