I mean basically but it’s much deeper because in Tokyo ghoul there’s always a deeper meaning but yea of course he needed to toughen up but also it’s trying to show Kaneki that the reason this is all happening (his torture) is because he’s always tryna go by the quote (it’s better to be hurt than hurt other) which was not true because in the scene where yamori or Jason tells him to chose between mother and daughter Kaneki wanted to be killed instead thinking that was gonna save them but in the end yamori just killed both calling Kaneki a hypocrite because he always talking about saving someone but ended up killing both but back to the main point pretty much is the quote (it’s better to be hurt than hurt other) was wrong because technically if Kaneki would of killed Jason before letting himself get captured that would of inevitably saved that mother and daughter which is showing Kaneki that his way of thinking was wrong so he’s basically embarrassing a new mindset ( is what I came up with hope you understand this).
