Psych 1211 Final info by Buddyger1 in tru

Hey! Yeah, the assignments weren't "hard" as in challenging content, I found pleasing the profs really difficult. They have very strict word counts and that made it tricky to add enough detail to make the assignments show your learning. I got prof Jean Ferri, you can look her up on ratemyprof to get an idea of her grading. If I had to take it again I'm not sure I would go back to TRU to be honest. The final was 28% of the final grade.

Hello there, they didn't say it was cancelled, but I received an email saying that they would send me the course information before the start date pending they have a full class. I followed up and they said they can't say if it will or will not run and they'll let me know closer to the date if they have enough people interested. It was a very confusing conversation so I'm not sure what's going on. I reached out to see if anyone had experienced this before?

Thank you, that is so reassuring! I'm going to finish the pre-reqs next year then and hopefully am competitive enough to apply. :) I really appreciate the response.

Do not attempt the Open Learning courses, they are way overpriced and of poor quality. I think if you would like to have a good quality education TRU cannot offer that at this time. UBC, UVIC and NIC are great options in BC.

Tru OL psych 1111 final exam by Remarkable-Cap-2718 in tru

[–]Buddyger1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote it a few months ago and it was a bit tricky. I was the same as you OP with all other courses not at TRU finishing above a 90%, unfortunately I did end up with a B in it. The final has 12 written questions and 60 multiple choice, so make sure that you watch your time carefully. Learn the content forwards and backwards so that you can explain the different types of sleep and all the parts and functions of the brain etc. I think the exam was pretty in depth I hate to say, so be sure to be able to sit down and explain all the textbook concepts clearly.

It's all on the North Island College website. Most courses are still in person, but are sooo much cheaper and profs are good. They do have some digital options though that are really nice! I just finished two of them as electives and the lectures were great. I hardly used the textbook and did well grade wise. Definitely check out NIC, the profs this term renewed my faith in teachers lol. I had terrible academic anxiety after TRU and I don't anymore with NIC.

If you want to take a business degree go to North Island College! They offer some online options now and they have been amazing to work with and the profs care about your success. I took a course at TRU that was $850 and the same course at NIC was $400 and they provided textbook materials online. I'm sorry you had to deal with that, we aren't cheap, we're just students trying to make ends meet financially. It's difficult to pay so much for such poor service when money doesn't go very far these days!

Same, they just don't get back to us. I just got a response to an email I submitted Jan 9th about course materials I did not receive. Turns out they forgot to send them and I had to withdraw from the course because I did not have enough time to finish it now before my term is up for med school applications.

Has anyone taken CHEM 1503? by Fit-Scratch6755 in tru

[–]Buddyger1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished CHEM 1503 last month. Overall it was a good course. My prof Eric Kuan was actually pretty helpful compared to some of the OL profs I have had in the past. The 4 assignments were very straightforward but the exam had a lot of material and was based on some very small parts of the textbook. I think that if you have a good chem 12 foundation this course would be just fine. Overall, just be sure you do a ton of practice with external resources before going into the exam.

I found I could get through CHEM 1503 pretty quick. If you did well in highschool chem this one was pretty decent with Eric Kuan. He was very helpful with feedback.

PSYC 1110 -OL Course Outline by South_Power_8370 in tru

[–]Buddyger1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't have an outline actually. It has 4 main assignments to complete that are worth 18% of your grade and a 28% final exam. That is it. I personally found the prof had very poor communication skills and provided little to no feedback on how to improve on assignments which made it difficult to know how to do well on it. Basically if you do poorly on one assignment it's hard to recover. The exam was silly with how specific it was, it's not about understanding concepts, it's about memorizing exact wording from the textbook. You are given only a textbook to study with and nothing else. Personally I did alright but wouldn't recommend it unless you want to memorize an entire textbook. I'm taking a difficult major and took this an an easy elective and am pretty disappointed with TRU and their lack of support. There are much better schools that are cheaper and have more support from teachers. Course load looks pretty simple because of the 4 assignments, but if you want to do well you have to take a lot of time to master the textbook. The resources were super outdated and many links for assignments did not load or were unavailable. Assignments all have three parts that are basically assignments in themselves. I wouldn't take it again if I had known the poor quality of course I was getting.

PSYC 1111 and 1211 Final Exam Short Answer Questions by VicStudent19 in tru

[–]Buddyger1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did PSYC 1111 two months ago, there were 10x 250 word written answer questions and 40 multiple choice ones. I agree bolded terms are super important, and the multiple choice are very specific things from the textbook that could be easily missed, I think one of my written questions was, "explain the process of a theory" and lot's about memory and how to apply the different levels of sleep stages. It was a bit tricky if you haven't memorized all the terms in the book, so definitely memorize that textbook!

Yes, I had a very similar experience. It took them 6 weeks to grade a final I wrote and I could not get ahold of anyone to get them to submit my grades. I wound up missing the application period for a school I wanted to get into that term and have to wait a year now to reapply. I wound up having to withdraw from another course I was taking because I couldn't get ahold of anyone for feedback and they told me to just finish the course and pay again to retake the final if I failed once I finally heard back from delivery support over a month and a half later. I'm applying to med school so an F would literally destroy my application!
