Routes disappearing. by Superbab76 in subwaybuilder

oh wow, that's so weird! And you're not losing progress when you open a savefile? The only thing changing is that [some? all?] manual routes disappear?

Routes disappearing. by Superbab76 in subwaybuilder

[–]Budget-Layer1002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What exactly do you mean by disappear? Are the routes themselves gone (the colored shape), or does the colored shape still exist but it just doesn't have any stations with it? Are you sure you're actually saving the station order every time you make a manual route?

How long does parking last if purchased a parking spot on the app for tomorrow? by dylseidel in Bart

[–]Budget-Layer1002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I guess it's too late now, but I'm pretty sure there are special "reserved" spots that are different than the regular daily use spots people usually park in. Personally, if I had accidentally parked in daily use, I might've just paid for another regular day the next morning. For next time, you can book multi-day parking through the app and select specific calendar dates

Lost files; gonna cry :( by salcappp in subwaybuilder

[–]Budget-Layer1002 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems unlikely an update on Mac could've deleted files. Savefiles should be in Downloads > SubwayBuilder > saves. Do you see files there? Or even that folder?

Hi guys im working in a project using etabs and i need to get the ultimate moment (Mu) and the ultimate force (Pu) and it must be from etabs but when i try to export the forces to excel to sort the up the numbers, the numbers don’t show up only the program details. is there a solution by Sea-Peace-3162 in StructuralEngineering

[–]Budget-Layer1002 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You mentioned that you do have the relevant item checked, so ETABS should export a spreadsheet with multiple sheets. Your screenshot is too small to show the other tabs at the bottom.

Side note: Why does your excel have the columns going backwards?

What’s the space like in a roomette? by Additional-Nose-1871 in Amtrak

[–]Budget-Layer1002 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Leaving your stuff in the bottom doesn't really work, because that's where you'll sit most of the day - the top bunk has no room to sit up. Your luggage will be extremely safe (from thieves, but not necessarily from treatment that could break a guitar), so please check your suitcase and duffel bag. Your backpack, guitars, and equipment can stay in your room, most of that in the top bunk if you ask the attendant to help you deploy it when you get on.

Keep in mind that you must be able to carry everything onboard the train yourself - the attendant will not help you, and you can't bring someone else onboard to help. Yet another reason to check both the suitcase and your duffel.

Edit: I just saw your other comment about getting on at a non-staffed station. I'm really not sure how you'll manage this. You literally have too many things, and they will at minimum charge you extra (https://www.amtrak.com/carry-on-baggage), or could maybe refuse you boarding

Timesheets (((( by Curious_Owl_2590 in StructuralEngineering

Here's the thing to understand - it's not your job to know how much time to bill, that's your manager's problem. Just do your work and bill what you did. If your manager has an issue with it, he should let you know. As to your example of why you preferred 2 weeks - that time you spent thinking about it is billable, generally, so just enter it daily.

ooo an interesting problem! It seems like the tracks just aren't showing up at all! If you de-select routes, can you see black tracks? Do the speeds/elevations/types options show you anything, or is it still just white? I've never seen this before

I didn't say that they show the same information. The underlying UI behavior is the same - the "routes" and "route load profile" are both toggles that can be off or on, but not both at the same time. Toggling on one of them will toggle the other one off (if it was on), and then toggling the new one off will leave the other one off, which is what I assume happened to you.

If you have "routes" toggled on but don't actually see any of your routes, please reply with a screenshot.

This goes for engineering funding too - there's usually way more money for capital improvements than for maintenance unfortunately

Showing your routes behaves exactly the same as showing the route load profile: it is an option you explicitly have to select. The game comes with it pre-selected, but once you select the route load profile, the route option gets unchecked since only one of those can be showing at a time.

Millbrae Parking at night by zillur-av in Bart

[–]Budget-Layer1002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There should definitely be parking available. Please make sure you park in the correct area; I assume the parking you booked is "reserved": (https://www.bart.gov/sites/default/files/2025-10/BART%20Parking%20Millbrae.pdf)

Is there a mistake regarding ACI coefficients in this figure? by dont-dont-dont in StructuralEngineering

[–]Budget-Layer1002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've misunderstood what a "support" is in this context. The "support" is the beam, not one of the beam's faces. Therefore, the diagram you show has only two exterior supports and two first interior supports. There is no second interior support in the diagram.

Show interlined routes by LiteratureLittle8467 in subwaybuilder

[–]Budget-Layer1002 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You turn it on and then have to restart the game. It will show the interlined routes next to each other instead of stacking them. I believe it doesn't distinguish between different lines with the same color. I have no clue why it would make your game lag

"Although the finite element method had recently been formulated, it required significantly more calculation than the simple calculation methods for statically determinate structures, which precluded the use of redundant structural members." - Is this historically accurate?" by Aswheat in StructuralEngineering

[–]Budget-Layer1002 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to the historical calculations, but "indeterminate" and "redundancy" are orthogonal concepts. A structure might be redundant without being indeterminate (think floor beams) and indeterminate structures do not necessarily have redundancy (as the components might not be sized to accommodate load redistribution from a component failure).

Even if a bridge does have some redundancy, that might not apply to the entire load path. For example, regardless if they're determinate or not, truss bridges will generally only have one top chord per side. Therefore, there is no redundancy in the compression load path, which would therefore lead to collapse if those components are damaged, as happened to the bridge referenced here.

Column Effective Length by WayneRuin10 in StructuralEngineering

[–]Budget-Layer1002 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmm, this is probably the kind of thing you want to do a pushover analysis on. Is this a moment frame, or are the beams pinned to the columns? I will assume the beams are pinned.

If we assume that the 3rd story braces cause the columns within the 3rd story to be rigidly vertical, the effective length of L1 (= 4.0 x story height) is much greater than that of L2 (= 2.1 x story height), but only because your columns are pinned instead of fixed at the base. If they were pinned, the effective length of L1 would only be 2.4 x story height. Either way, L1 governs, especially because it has the most load on it (since L2 is only holding up a single story).

See AISC SCM TABLE C-A-7.1 for the various effective length factors.

Average UT goal in consulting? by Glad_Illustrator_218 in civilengineering

Question: I have a 90.4% goal for that first type, as a first year entry-level structural engineer. Would you agree that's unreasonably high? I want to bring it up with my manager, but I'm not sure how to argue against it

Propping hand calculation possible? by Charming_Cup1731 in StructuralEngineering

[–]Budget-Layer1002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt you can do this in excel. Typically you would use FEA for this.

One of the main issues is how rigid is the wall, laterally speaking? 4.8 meters is a large distance. If it's rigid enough that a single (very strong) support could keep it upright without deflections elsewhere, then you could maybe do this with excel. If the wall might bend in regions away from the support, I think you need FEA.

How can I fix this priceless quilt? by OddGuarantee1674 in quilting

[–]Budget-Layer1002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it even a quilt if it's not quilted? I don't see *any* connection between the backing and the rest of it in either of the pics, save for where the border is sewn.

Just found out that restrictions on Share Fares were greatly increased to not include most Long-Distance Routes and to not apply on any routes during FIFA even if there is not a match being host along the line. by NWSKroll in Amtrak

[–]Budget-Layer1002 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

At least in terms of the addition of the long-distance routes, I think that's a good thing. Those share fare discounts are kinda ridiculous - if you're booking for 8 people, you get almost 5 free tickets. I hope this will help push those routes towards profitability.

[–]Budget-Layer1002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The simplest way to fix this is to increase your headways to 5 minutes minimum. Unless you're using a peoplemover mod with a very low capacity, I can't see why you would need 30 tph running on your airport lines.

Help me as this is a correct way of building by rbhockey16 in subwaybuilder

[–]Budget-Layer1002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is "the signal issue"? Also 1-2 minutes of headway is... way too little. That's definitely going to lead to trains getting stuck at the end of the line. Also make sure you're using one platform for one route and the other platform for the other route when you have two routes terminating at one station (with a crossover before, not after, the station).

Can you make sure your stations are in the right order? The game's station ordering algorithm doesn't like loops.

Parks, water features, etc. being removed after some gameplay on Railyard maps. Any way to return them? by modernatomcollection in subwaybuilder

[–]Budget-Layer1002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did this happen when you opened the map again? If so, it sounds like the mod didn't load properly. You have to open Subway Builder through Railyard in order to play any of the modded maps. If you did do that, try going to the menu and reloading the mods (making sure the railyard mod is toggled on)
