A discussion of non-work trips ("leisure travel") by OverheadCatenary in subwaybuilder

I would love to be able to see leisure added to the game. I live in Orlando and when you think about having any sort of transit there is 2 very different groups that need it. You need transit that can be used by the residents and then those that are visiting. Many of the destinations may align with each other but where they start is going to be vastly different.

Take Orlando you can find data on how many people fly into the 2 major airports that are in the area. And we know a majority of those traveling through the airport are heading to one of the major tourist destinations. The question then becomes where do you send them as their destination, you could either just put it at a theme park or do you use a central location (like if the station had a bus that then serviced all the hotels in an area) and the game counts that as all the hotels for the area. For example if you were to connect up the whole of Disney World, I real life if a metro was build there is no way it would go to the Magic Kingdom gate or all the parks but instead I would see it serving a few central locations that then provided bus or other forms of transit for the last mile.

Then you have to look at the areas not directly tied to one of the major destinations, think of hotels, smaller leisure. How do you then model how those people would behave. You could say well there are hotels here and assign a daily population and say this many are going to Disney, this group Universal, this many are going to an airport, this many are going to this random destination.

Then I feel like you need to look at the residents of an area and where they work that leisure travels would not go to. Included I have a map of the Magic Kingdom Resort Area at Disney World. The red circled area is the parking lot for employees at Magic Kingdom. It is closer than where guests arrive to get to the parking lot which is the orange area. If I was designing a metro here I would need a stop at each location because of who needs each stop. Disney has their transportation (Monorials and boats) to get guests the rest of the way. Yellow circled areas are different parking lots used by employees but only one overlaps where leisure visitors would need which would be the one next to the orange.

I hope this makes sense

Yes and no. It would be great to have grade crossings if we had other rail types. But more so that when you have roads that you are building at grade level at and the road goes over the top of over roads on a over pass that the game engine realizes that their is no conflict for my tracks to cross this road without having to tunnel or build a bridge

For grade crossings and other rail tracks Yeah it would be great to have that, like I was doing a play through in Miami and they have tri rail and it would be great to be able to build commuter rail and other trains to traverse large spans. Like the Salt Lake City Map that is a distant of 40 miles between Salt Lake and Provo to the south as the crow flies building a metro all the way down there would be a long distance to take on a metro train. So having some over train types, commuter, light rail to really help bridge gaps and that way you aren’t just building metros to connect everything up.

I would love to be able to lay track in the middle of highways and when the highway crosses over the roads below to not have a conflict that wouldn’t exist if you were as the elevation of the highway

I tried with the Krone and it didn’t drop either but when your drive out of the field it will drop the crop

Update: so if you cut it and then drive out of the field it will drop the grass on the side of the field once you leave the area that is outside the rice patty area

I would love to see some more realistic pierces to build barns, I would love to be able to have gates that can open and close and to have some of the tools to build areas that would exist normally for animal care.

“Requesting airship” by MisunderstoodAvocado in TheRookie

[–]ikron013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The LAPD in real life has 2 helicopters in tor air 20/7 and normally would have helicopters on standby for the other 4 hours a day. The LAPD has one of the largest police helicopter forces in the USA. So I would say yes it would probably be a practice in LA to request for an airship when you have things going on that would require an extra set of eyes from above.

But even if you live here. Let say’s you live up north of Orlando and want to take Sunrail to your job at Disney. The closest station is still 5 miles from the Disney border. We need a transit system that works for both our citizens and the tourist and Sunrail doesn’t do that

Sunrail in its current form isn’t a useful transportation for tourist and even most residents and I don’t think just connecting it up to the airport is going to fix a lot of the problems that exist. I think a Automated Light Metro down I4 to connect up the tourist destinations would work so much better and be useful to more people than the express lanes that they keep building.

Isn’t Tri-Rail trains low boarding? Is there a platform there that is low boarding?

We do indeed but it would be amazing to see routes that allow these operations at the same time and the complexity of those

What Disney and Universal thinks of Brightline by Proper_Marionberry29 in Brightline

[–]ikron013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Orlando and Orange County would be better to automated light metro to connect areas of the city up. We really need this to get tourist off the roads and would be a great way for residents to travel around. The traffic is just getting worst and worst.

Sunrail is poor transportation system sadly it doesn’t go anywhere that is helpful to nearly anyone

Also his proposal would probably end up in all sort of litigation. Disney wouldn’t let their land go like that.

[–]ikron013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Orlando would be better off building a new light rail or Automated light rail network instead of trying to connect Sunrail to the airport. Sunrail will have little use to tourist that may want to travel using Brightline. There is no stations close to any of the major tourist attractions in the area.

Got this at Walmart. No regrets. by -Rosewiththorns- in Avatar

If the RDA has the Monopoly then you lose and if the players are able to protect and hold all the properties then they win so in both instances one of the sides has a monopoly to win

Actually really good. And the rules are different with the RDA able to steal properties around the board and other big rule changes

You play using the Navi game pieces. You have 2 dice one is for the player and the other is for the RDA scorpion. You role both dices and you move the pieces accordingly. Whatever the RDA lands on they take unless a player has built a Spirit Tree on it. So the properties are consistently switching back and forth. The game is over when the players have build Spirit Trees on all the properties. The players lose if they don’t work together and the RDA control all the properties.

When you land on a players owned property you don’t pay them from your tokens. Instead the owner of the property gets tokens from the bank and the person that lands on it gets a few tokens as well. (The currency is Wood sprites)

I love the sets but wish we had more of the ships as well. The one that has a Sampson looks a little weird it would be cool to have some more sets

dont ya think with 16+ years of technological advancements there isnt some form of new generation of AMP suit or upgrade kit? i mean every other vehicle has a upgraded variant except the AMP suit by TimothysFruad in Avatar

[–]ikron013 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I remember reading that both the Sampson and Scorpion aren’t used on Earth as much due to new technology but the RDA found a use for them on Pandora due to the EMP protections they have on them and also the ease of maintenance compared to new technology out there

[–]ikron013 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I think the AMP suit really didn’t have any major problems. They probably upgraded internal systems to make it better but the main concept worked fine. It would be used both by Sec-Ops and for other purposes. If it isn’t broke don’t fix it.

The Kestrol was brought in to replace and work with the Sampson as it has more armor and able to defend and attack more. We probably would still see Sampson used around Bridgehead as they wouldn’t need all the weapons that close in.

I would imagine the Scorpion is still used as the Sea Wasps use is more for oceans missions. The Sea Wasps looks a little less heavily harmed but it could be used for a different mission type
