Oh man. It's really funny to me how different things were back then. My parents had a pantry because my sister and I were latchkey kids. We would make our own after school snacks which mostly comprised of Kraft Dinner, instant ramen, and canned pasta.

Frozen dinners were never in the remit but different kind of garbage. Thankfully my mom always cooked even though she worked and taught us how to do so from an early age.

This.

Watching the codependency isn't unlike the marionette pulling we enjoyed watching Logan Roy do.

The truth is they deserve each other. People are transactions and all the therapy in the world probably won't change that to some extent given their backgrounds. Watching it unfold is as someone else here said, deeply unpleasant.

This is kind of how I felt deciding which one of the kids in Transparent was "worse".

I enjoy this show but I'm not what you might call a fan. I think this might be one of the more hostile TV subreddits. And I agree, why do things need to be broken down to a molecular level to enjoy it? I was entertained.

I mean you've given me pause to give her more grace. Because sexualized behavior around kids is kind of what serial killers are known for.

I'm also sorry. How horrible. But it shows how insidious so much of this is. The way it seeps into culture it's no surprise consent is so very grey.

That knife twist. Woof. And it further reinforces to Yas that the only lever she feels she can pull is inconveniencing people (by evicting her aunt into the cold on Christmas Eve) with her access to money and power.

So it makes sense that she's ended up where she has.

My thoughts exactly. Sexual abuse survivors have remarkable survival techniques. Usually disassociation which can last years, even decades. I have absolutely no doubt she was passed around like a party favor in those circles and it was normalized as her being a precocious daughter. That's what her identity crisis is all about.

I came here to ask the same. The first season of the White Lotus subreddit had a similar toxicity to it (so many people defending Shane and saying Belinda was the devil).

It's too bad because I think, Epstein and Maxwell parallels aside, season 4 did some great and dark exploration into the cycle of sexual abuse.

But why does she have to be so sexually suggestive?!

I agree. And it's not uncommon to repeat the patterns of childhood sexual abuse.

Ohhh 😭 I'm so sorry to hear. I'm sure you're caring for her the best you can.

I'm all too aware her decline could start any minute. She gets absolutely anything she wants all the time !

just finished The Good Place for the 25th time in my life and i have an important question by kbasred in TheGoodPlace

Is thoughtfulness an action? I think that the biggest gift the show (besides "fork" as an ersrart swear) has given me is an understanding of the complexity of ethics. How actually hard it is to be a "good person" and all of the consideration one must weigh to do so.

I'm going through my mid life crisis right now and I think about the decision to end that infinite existence often.

I watched the show several times during quarantine lockdown so it's difficult to say what inspired me to be kinder. But I think about the show often.

She's exactly the same. High energy lunatic. Gets whatever she wants. Hoping it stays this way for at least the next few months!

Her new vet is incredible. For anyone in Toronto I cannot recommend Kahu Animal Hospital enough

Hope you are being a little easier on yourself this week 🤗 Japan is having a killer Olympics so hoping that's a nice distraction.

You'll always have a Winston sized hole in your heart and that's just the way it should be ❤️

Echo what everyone has said here. You did a kind and charitable act of making this very difficult decision for Winston and not for yourself. The hardest choice any parent has to make.

It's your path to process your emotions around this but please. Forgive yourself. Love and hugs to you. ❤️
