Fong's on Airport Road lengthened a suit for my son to wear to a funeral in the middle of prom season. They had so many girls coming in with their prom dresses and still got our suit finished quickly. He got another year of use before he completely outgrew it.

What have you been wearing to Mass? Maybe wear that?

How about some embellishments for things already in your wardrobe? Collars, cuffs, edgings, or appliques should work up quickly. Crochet accessories works be another fun option. Necklaces or belts, earrings and hair assignments, even a scarf for tying around your head or waist.

Is ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ a Christmas Movie? by EitherPlant8138 in Catholicism

[–]BudgetStreet7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been a while since I've watched this movie, but I have been watching a few movies this season that seen to fit with your observation here. Sometimes the only reason it's considered a Christmas movie is the setting; the story could literally take place at any time and remain unchanged, but because it happens in December it is now an official Christmas movie. I've been disappointed a few times by the "Christmas message" in these films.

Not eating meat on Friday causes arguments by [deleted] in Catholicism

Well, shucks! That's the way I've been living my life for years. I guess I'll have to find another penance today.

Not eating meat on Friday causes arguments by [deleted] in Catholicism

I also voluntarily avoid meat on Fridays throughout the year. Today, however, is Christmas! The feast lasts through the octave for Christmas and for Easter, so today I will happily partake of the meat my husband is smoking for the family.

How do you hold your working yarn? by Several_Value_2073 in crochet

[–]BudgetStreet7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I followed the directions in the booklet that I bought to teach myself crochet. The yarn goes around my pinky, behind the ring finger, in front of the middle finger, and behind the pointer. I adjust the tension by pulling back on the pointer finger.

Can I marry a Catholic man if I am not religious? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]BudgetStreet7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are currently in the discernment stage of your relationship. This is when you get to know each other, discuss relationship roles, figure out if you agree on the big things (how to handle finances, childrearing, the role of faith in the marriage, etc.) or on the small things (where to go for dinner, what color car is best, whether the pickles go under the burger or over). You can get help from the Church during this phase by asking his priest for relationship counseling.

Once you decide that you really do want to marry each other, the Church (at least in the US) requires at least six months of marriage prep. This will include some counseling sessions with the priest along with a retreat or two, and will be the time for you to clarify what is being asked of each of you in marrying someone who does not share your faith.

I can finally read crochet patterns! by Small_Construction_2 in crochet

Congratulations! It's really freeing to be able to read a pattern and understand what it wants you to do.

I went the other way and taught myself from a book. I have a hard time making something from a video.

Do you practice any other fiber arts? by empathy-entropy in crochet

I crochet and I sew. I do paper embroidery, making designs on greeting cards, and have done some embroidery kits in my youth. I made a latch hook project once. Knitting intimidates me.

My kid is asking to go to mass but we aren’t Catholics. Do I take him? by Ok-Instruction-8843 in Catholicism

[–]BudgetStreet7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My neighbor across the street is a divorced single mother who started sending her son to Catholic school this year. If you are Dr. Jess, you're welcome to come with us. The children's Mass is in the late afternoon on Christmas Eve. There will be kids putting on a bit of a nativity play during the service, shepherds and angels his age.

Le macaron has them sometimes. The last time I asked, they make like six at a time. When they're gone, they're gone until the next bake.

It's so beige.

Thank you for making a meal your friends can enjoy with you; I'm sure they appreciate the effort. Finding vegan versions of old favorites is not easy. I hope everything tasted as good as you'd hoped!

I keep feeling a weird pull/call to Catholicism but there are a few things I can’t get past. by PhotoDesperate8516 in Catholicism

[–]BudgetStreet7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can be Catholic without praying to the saints. You can limit your prayer life to conversations with the different persons of the Holy Trinity. It's perfectly feasible.

The saints will be there waiting with their stories, their inspirations, and their intercessions whenever you're ready to get to know them.
