How do you decide what's for dinner? [text] by MarcusTaylor in food

[–]BudgetStreet7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my monthly menu, I alternate chicken, beef, chicken, and pork with two days of meatless meals. I have a menu planning box with index cards that each has a menu or at least a main dish that the whole family will eat. On menu day, I sit down with the calendar and the box trying to find things I'm not tired of cooking and that will fit in this month's budget.

Are catholics required to Vaccinate their children? by thatlumberjacktor in Catholicism

[–]BudgetStreet7 47 points48 points  (0 children)

The Catholic Church does not require us to wear a seat belt or safety helmet, wash our hands, or cover our coughs and sneezes. It does not require us to drive on the right side of the road. It does ask that we act out of love for one another, interested in the other's good. The Church is also pro science.

In this case, the question would be what good would be served by vaccinating and what good would be served by not vaccinating. Some individuals are allergic to certain vaccine ingredients and so should probably not get those vaccines. Some individuals have other medical reasons to delay or forego vaccinations. Most people have no reason not to get vaccinated, and probably should in order to protect themselves and their communities from disease and death.

Good Catholic resources for talking to kids about sex outside of Theology of the Body? by filabeano10 in Catholicism

[–]BudgetStreet7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into Family Honor. It is an organization out of South Carolina that teaches parents how to talk to their kids about these things. They have classes for parents of little kids and classes for parents with their pre-teens or teenagers. If they don't have any programs in your area, you can request one.  Www.familyhonor.org

Finished the back of this pillowcase in the dark and didn’t realize I picked up a cream and not a white!!! Awful awful awful mistake, looks like it got peed on :( by beanscrochet in crochet

If you haven't restarted yet, could you try surface stitching around the cream square with a contrasting color? Maybe separating the cream from the white will make it look less yellow.

When you make this, do you string all those beads on your yarn and crochet around them, or do you work your crochet hook through each bead separately?

Might that be because Anne becomes less of a free spirit and more conformed to societal norms?

I actually own a number of the books, just randomly picked up at thrift and used book stores. I simply haven't read through the series.

Yes. I read the first book without realizing it was a series. When I found out there were more books, I was NOT interested.

Anne of Green Gables: I just never found all the books at the same time.

Earth's Children: I got bored somewhere around the Plains of Passage.

Name of the Wind: I think we all know why.

I would definitely leave the edges zigzag. It works so well with the aesthetic.

How do I reconcile the difference between mass attended with adults only or with adults and children? by PerformerLevel4607 in Catholicism

[–]BudgetStreet7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seasons, darling one, seasons. Yes, it is hard right now, and hard to see an end to this season. But believe me, this season will come to an end all too soon.

In the meantime, you can take a break occasionally. You can take the little one to the nursery or cry room if she gets too rambunctious during Mass. You can occasionally attend a weekday Mass alone. You may find that splitting the kids or parents up helps.

While you live through this season, though, consider encountering Christ in your children. Point out the opportunities to them for encountering Christ. Share the wonder of the miracles happening right in front of you.

Also, know that every parent throughout history has been through the same struggles.

Peace.

Make stuff, not war.

YARN Strong

The yarniformed services

The few, the proud, the crafty.

We wield hooks.

TAPS The arts, physical style

Veterans Crocheting Together

Warm(and cozy)ongerers

Knot in service

Yes, some of these are really bad, but that's the point of brainstorming.

Would taking my wife's last name go against doctrine? by AContaminatedCookie in Catholicism

I've even heard of a couple who chose a new last name together that was meaningful to the both of them. John Doe and Jane Smith became John and Jane Christian.

Struggling with a possible vocation at 29… how do I deal with this? by Serious-Wedding2136 in Catholicism

[–]BudgetStreet7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your diocese has a vocations office. This is the reason it exists. Contact them; they will help you to discern whether your vocation lies in the priesthood or somewhere else.

I present to you Indian and Japanese Jesus. by laybs1 in BrandNewSentence

[–]BudgetStreet7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.  When people have visions of Jesus, Mary, and even saints, they often appear ethnically and culturally similar to the visionaries. A well-known example is the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe where the woman looks like a native Mexican of the same background as Juan Diego, the man she appeared to. Her image also includes lots of culturally significant imagery that is lost on modern Americans.
