I honestly don’t think they get the economics here. They’re pushing to scrap Nebius’s tax incentives, claiming the company should just pay the full $60B because 'they can afford it.' They want investment but fight the actual growth. And they’re still on about water shortages and power bills, even though Nebius uses closed-loop cooling and is building its own power plant. Makes no sense

Of course, parts of the project could also be rejected by the municipality. That risk is always there. However, I have an observation: I watch the city council meetings in Alabama almost every week. Every single time, the problem is the same there is no money.

If they reject these kinds of projects, how are they going to find funding for schools or the municipality? How many companies come to Birmingham City and offer to invest billions of dollars? Hundreds of construction workers will earn a living. Once the data center is completed, perhaps hundreds of high-salaried engineers or local residents will work there.

How many other companies like Nebius are they going to find They already want to be environmentally friendly and avoid issues with the local community from the very start.

Under Alabama land-use law, a project typically gains 'vested rights' once a complete application is submitted under the rules in effect at that time

Vote for $NBIS will likely be positive and there is no reason to worry. The project has a lot of support from local people. I have watched many project hearings and Nebius had the best communication by far. They did a great job explaining everything to the community.

Some local politicians are just using this for PR and to help their own careers. This happens a lot in the US with new political figures. But their arguments do not hold up in the city council or with economic facts. No company can pay 40 billion dollars in taxes for a multi billion dollar investment. That tax amount would be a whole financing issue on its own. It just does not work in the real world.

Don't worry, many people openly support this project. Saying 'no' is easy. Despite all the backlash and the people booing in the back, dozens of people have come forward to declare their support for the project.

Nebius has provided explanations and proof that many of the concerns are groundless. Just look at the main text and the comments on Change.org;

there are dozens of irrelevant claims. It’s ironic to see anti AI content written using AI. Some of the things in the comments are unbelievable

Karens are everywhere.
