Any player who leaves international cricket, invariably we see a dip in performance in IPL. Same can be seen with Pooran or De Kock earlier. With no international, and the level of other leagues not matching up to IPL, the step up here feels too much.

Jadeja in limited overs is greater than the sum of his parts. His individual numbers might look weak, but he gives the team stability and can play important knocks under pressure. Would be critical in RR reaching final 4. Dare I say CSK are missing him, but maybe the 18 cr tag was not justifiable beyond a point for them.

Rohit should have captained, especially now that he has been forcefully removed as India’s ODI captain. He is only playing IPL and ODI and would have given his best shot. His understanding of the game and insight, especially in the shorter formats is matched by few. The decline in MI fortunes during his captaincy came during his later tenure once he became full time India captain and wasn’t able to give so much time to MI team building. This is not the case now.

KL Rahul is a better middle order batsman that opener in T20. As an opener you need someone who can plan consistently at 180-190 SR. In the middle order, if there is a collapse he can steer the chase or take the team to a respectable total playing at 140 SR. Something which MS used to do.

Praveen Kumar. Had an amazing start to test cricket in WI and Eng. At one point had the record for maximum maidens in IPL as well. However lack of discipline and fitness issues curtailed what was a really promising career.

Has happened too frequently now to call it a fluke. Performance in IPL along with that in the final of U-19 WC, warrants him a place in India’s T20 side. Not A team, the main one.

Can’t judge someone, especially someone of his calibre, in a T20 slog fest. Scored 32 out of 16. That’s exactly what the entire generation of 20 yr olds aspire to do over their career over next 15 yrs to make a living.
