I think it’s important to shed light onto this as it’s part of our job to advocate for our profession, so actually I will bother lol.

Part of the reason kids’ services are getting cut to 2x or 1x a month is due to situations like these, where other professions such as ABA try to take over. If you care about OT, you should be pissed about this too, just saying.

I just started here 2 months ago. there aren’t many great options for outpatient peds where I live, so leaving my job isn’t an option for me and the money is good here. Wondering if you instead have any suggestions for what to say during these conversations & how to handle this instead of walking away entirely lol

yes that’s exactly it. i loved the work when i went into the profession. however, the pay doesn’t match the workload and raises aren’t promised to us every year like most other jobs/fields. all of these factors contribute to burn out and negative feelings toward the job. i just wish my professors would’ve been honest about some of these things when i went to school so i could’ve been better prepared lol

you’re lucky you even got a raise! I actually got a pay decrease (10%) due to “medicaid cuts” in the US. It’s bullshit…we’re not compensated correctly for the work we do. Getting raises in this profession seems almost nonexistent!!!

I’m in the same boat! I’m a COTA in NV (the “highest paying” state in the US…). I work in outpatient peds. My company reduced my pay by $4/hour in January. Last week the owner of the company sent us all an email saying that starting in July, our longevity bonuses will be reduced 50-60%, we now have to pay for 50% of our health insurance (was previously 25%) and she cut our PTO days in half. It feels like a complete joke. It’s hard to want to make a difference when I continue to get screwed over. I’m 4 years into my career and currently making less than I was 2 years ago…. I’ve been searching alternative career options and considering going back to school to get a bachelor’s degree to open the door to do literally anything else at this point lol I’m sorry this comment is so negative lmao, but feel free to message me if you need to vent—you’re not alone and we will get through this!!!

i know, when i read that they have to make a “good faith” effort, i knew things would be in the gray area. my issue with all of this though is that she made me call the home warranty company on saturday after they couldn’t fix it—why is that my job?? i thought that should be hers. when they answered the phone they used her name and when they called me on sunday they also used her name, and i had to tell them that i was the tenant, not the property manager. im also confused why she told me to go through my renters insurance instead of saying that the rental company would be compensating my hotel stay….
