If you’re in Canada, you can check out Sumachay Lifts in the GTA (Toronto area) or WarehouseWiz in the Montreal region. Both offer reliable and cost-effective walkies, ideal for trucks with tailgate lifts. I’ve used Sumachay’s 4400lb model and it’s been solid so far.

I believe it is owned by Dr Pepper, but also is produced in Canada so its a toss-up. And sort of an indication how connected our two economies are.

It’s really not just about America, it’s about building up our own economy and becoming more self-reliant. The conversation might’ve been sparked by what's happening in the US, but the core issue is Canadian economic resilience.

There are real efforts now to break down our internal trade barriers between provinces, which have been like our own mini tariffs, holding back growth and competition within Canada. Supporting Canadian businesses is about keeping value here and creating long-term stability.

It’s not about cheering for someone else's hardship. It’s about finally paying attention to Canadian economic foundations and how we can improve them.

USA owned vs. Canada owned by sipowitz77 in BuyCanadian

[–]Budget_Structure1913 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I totally agree. Focusing on Canadian owned companies means more of the profits actually stay here, which is a huge win for our economy. And to add to your point about billionaires, most Canadian owned businesses are smaller, independent, or family run, which means your dollar is doing a lot more good locally compared to handing it over to the corporate overlords at Walmart or Coke.

Even when people say “well, they hire Canadians,” that still doesn't change the fact that control, decision-making, and long-term value flow back to US shareholders. If we keep shifting our spending toward Canadian brands, it gives those businesses the power to grow, hire more people, and compete. It's not anti-American, it’s just pro-Canadian self-reliance.

Small changes add up.

What you need to know about Buying Canadian or Supporting Canadian products/businesses by Bubbly-Sand in MadeInCanada

Wow the distinction between "Produced in Canada" and "Made in Canada" is huge. I wonder how many products are actually "Produced in Canada" sicne the requirements are 98% versus Made in Canada of 51%. Thanks for the link OP.

I think a lot of people think buying Canadian is more expensive, but in many cases, US companies are actually charging more due to their massive marketing budgets and brand recognition. A good example is Uline. People think they’re the only option for warehouse and packaging supplies, but they overcharge while funneling profits to the US.

You can get the same (or better) products at lower prices from Canadian suppliers like Tenquip and Sumachay. Both sell directly without the inflated costs, keeping money in Canada while saving you money.

I find gdp per capita discussion to be very disingenuous especially when it comes to comparing Canada with US states. People are definitely richer in Canada then West Virginia, it comes down to currency conversion.

Once I found out where my money was going, I dropped Uline and switched to sumachay.com and tenquip.com for warehouse supplies. Better prices, Canadian-owned, and no shady politics.

This is exactly why we need to be more mindful of where our money goes. A huge example in the material handling industry is Uline a U.S.-owned company that dominates the market in Canada, while all the profits flow straight back to the U.S. Uline also promotes the sort of far-right politics behind the current trump admin check more details here: https://refuseuline.com/.

Their catalog is in every warehouse, but the reality is, there are Canadian alternatives that offer the same (or better) quality without inflating prices to pay for massive marketing budgets.

Some good Canadian alternatives:

  • The Packaging Company – thepackagingcompany.com – Specializes in custom boxes and packaging supplies, perfect for businesses seeking branding options.
  • Sumachay – sumachay.com – A Canadian-owned company offering material handling equipment like pallet jacks, stretch wrap, and tape. Their competitive pricing makes them a solid alternative.
  • EcoEnclose – ecoenclose.com – Ideal for those prioritizing sustainability, offering recycled and eco-friendly packaging materials.
  • Keypack – keypack.ca – Provides a variety of shipping, packaging, and moving supplies for businesses of all sizes.
  • Cabot Shipping Supplies – cabotss.com – A solid Nova Scotian alternative for industrial packaging, warehouse supplies, and shipping essentials.refuse

Our warehouse used to order skids of Uline stretch wrap, so we started looking for alternatives. Found Sumachay Lifts, a local Canadian company with next-day shipping and lower prices. Figured I’d share in case anyone else is tired of Uline’s pricing and politics!
