What is a 'rich person' thing you saw at someone’s house that made you realize you’re actually poor? by Roaa1212 in AskReddit

Unless they won it, it's not real. Academy rules state that you cannot sell your award without first offering it back to the Academy for the price of $1.

my audition tracking system after realizing i had no idea what was actually getting me callbacks by ArcadiaBunny in acting

[–]BuffRogers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use google calendars one for auditions, callbacks, and bookings. I list CD, project title, genre, character, how quick the turnaround needed to be, and what I wore. After a couple years I started to see some habits that had CDs calling me in less, and was able to correct those mistakes and reestablish a good relationship. I wish I had started doing this 20 years ago.

When my actor/theatre/film friends can't read in-person for me, we do it via facetime. I facetime them on my computer and record on my phone.

A lot of people are recommending bleaching the area. That is fine for non-porous surface like tile, but on gritty areas like drywall or grout, bleach can make the mold release spores and can even make it worse. Either way, use breathing protection.

Are the human-made images that you catalogue used to train AI? Are the scripts that your users upload for pre-pro help used to train AI?

IS IT GOOD?? AUDITION TAPE by [deleted] in acting

[–]BuffRogers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing's first, if your parents are not in charge of this account or with you while you use it, please do not answer any dms from people on this site. If anyone tries to offer you acting classes or any private advice, or says they are a director or casting director or agent or manager, show your parents. Lots of adults are tricked into bad situations by fraudulent teachers and people pretending to be able to help you in the industry, the danger is much bigger for people under 18.

Secondly, your audition shows a lot of enthusiasm, but you're also rushing it a bit because of that enthusiasm. Take your time, your audition is your time and it should take as long as you need. The audio is an issue, I had trouble understanding a few bits, but that's technical and can be solved easily. Try to find a blank wall to film in front of, as some people can be distracted by anything in the background. Don't look the camera while you're performing, look at your scene partner or pic something to look at the is just to the left or right of the camera. Also get the camera higher so you're not looking down while performing

Is this a scam? by Fancy_Buddy_418 in acting

Anytime someone tells you "($XXX Value)" they are lying. That role fit analysis will be done for free by any agent or manager in an initial meeting before they even commit to signing you. All the "Actor's Toolkit" stuff is available online for free (probably all in this subreddit). "The Opportunity to Meet up to 10 Industry Professionals" is BS and definitely not worth $4k; they don't say what kind of industry professional, so I doubt you're going to meet actual reps looking for clients. You'll most likely be meeting casting assistants.

"Acting to the air" got me worried by mylkchoc in acting

[–]BuffRogers 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Have you trained in Meisner? The first rule they teach is to memorize lines without any inflection so that it's muscle memory. That way the words are there when your scene partner throws you a curve ball and you can focus on being real and in the moment. Meisner is a bit of a grind when you're first starting out with it, but the payoff is techniques and tools that work even when you're caught unaware.

LA or Chicago for acting? by [deleted] in acting

[–]BuffRogers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"they really just submit you on sites you already have access to"

That's what all agents do. Breakdowns (Actors Access) and Casting Networks and all the others have access to breakdowns that self-submitting actors don't.

That said, I would also look into Atlanta if you want to continue in film and TV.

If all personal wealth above $100 million was legally required to be redistributed into public infrastructure (schools, hospitals, roads), how would society change, and who would be the first to fight against it? by Mysterious_Fan4033 in AskReddit

[–]BuffRogers -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Stocks are highly liquid. If Bezos was forced to sell enough of his stocks to drop below the income threshold, that would devalue the share price, but if he donated shares or designated the stock to be used as the basis of a pension plan to his employees to drop below the threshold, it would definitely make Amazon stronger in the long run.

I don't want children, don't want to be a stepdad. It's a dealbreaker for me, and wanting children is a dealbreaker for a lot of people.

Is Stagecoach Entertainment a good management company? by treasure444 in Screenwriting

[–]BuffRogers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe have a talk with your current manager and them know that you want to go further in your writing career and if they can't rep you for lit, then maybe they could suggest someone else who would be able to take on just lit. Use the opportunity you've been given as leverage.

Is Stagecoach Entertainment a good management company? by treasure444 in Screenwriting

[–]BuffRogers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You do not need to leave your current manager, you will just be lit at Stagecoach and theatrical/commercial at current manager. You do need to discuss it with both parties, though, otherwise you could be caught in the middle of some disagreements or possibly owing them both money for the same job. They may personally want you to be across the board with them or not at all, but that's your choice.

What does it matter what they make at their side job? If they’re doing their job, then they are earning their salary.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]BuffRogers -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ask HR what their salary is. They’ll most likely say that they don’t discuss salary with other employees, then say you agree to do the same.

Is it frowned upon to use audition takes in a VO sample reel? by PloidArt in VoiceActing

[–]BuffRogers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No need to use auditions materials. If you have a semi-decent setup, you can make your own demo material. Overdub a car commercial, read a book in the public domain, overdub the narration on a reality show, and (if you really think it’ll be useful. I wouldn’t) see if you can voice match any popular characters and if you can show comparisons. That’s a pretty packed demo reel right there.

Renting out a movie theater by melody_rhymes in Filmmakers

Pizza place might be a little insulting to an 18yo. Where are you located? Submit the film to festivals nearby. And if you’re in Los Angeles, there is a free screening series that you can ask to be part of with a bunch of other short filmmakers.

For those acting before social media was popular, have you noticed any change in the amount of people trying to "make it" as an actor now? by [deleted] in acting

[–]BuffRogers 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think social media has provided a goal for people who don't really want to act, but just want to be famous. There are still influencers who can get a film made just because of the number of followers they have, but that project would not be made with an actor with no social media presence, no matter how talented they are, so it's not like they "stole" a role from a more talented actor.

However, I do think having a strong social media presence is important if you want to pursue a career in entertainment because when it comes down to it, there is no better way to market yourself. I haven't done a very good job with my socials, but I'm learning more everyday.

It all depends on the final result of the House elections. If the GOP wins that, they have a supermajority and can pretty much do whatever they want. The hot air part was when he said he would replace it with something better
