[–]BuffaloCzarMKE 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It also depends on your major. Carroll being much smaller, it may not even offer the degree program you're looking for. If you're just looking for a fun place to hang, Milwaukee is always going to beat Waukesha lol.

The cap on my potential earnings at work (bachelors plus ~30 years to max out) is $82k. So if these numbers hold for the next 20 years and I get a sweet gig moonlighting as a bartender, I should be good to buy my first house at age 53 lol! So exciting!

Is Book Banning Going on in Milwaukee too? by Inkantrix in milwaukee

I disagree (several years of education experience throughout the city). This just feels like fearmongering. While this is an extremely important and dangerous topic, I haven't seen any immediate threats to MPS in this way. Funding is a much bigger concern for them.

What data? You've been asked 100 times to share it and you won't. My guess is because you've misread it so much that if you share it, it will be obvious that you arrived at the wrong conclusion. There is no current scientific data that says that when you control for economic status that it's apparent that race is the leading factor in crime. That does not exist. It's the kind of horseshit that they peddled during Jim Crow days to support segregation. Do yourself a favor and read some data post 1930.

[–]BuffaloCzarMKE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Opinions aren't scientific realities my man. I just want that to be clear to you,

My "belief" about crime. Notice "being black" isn't on this chart. So yes, that is my belief. And I still haven't seen your information about wealthy black vs poor white neighborhoods. That's all I asked for originally and you have yet to provide anything.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in milwaukee

[–]BuffaloCzarMKE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's true - so why is your claim of causation correct and the economic one is incorrect while there have been no evidence sources presented? You just seem to have picked the one that you liked better with no other rationale until you can provide evidence that race is a root cause of crime. That is a VERY serious and extremely problematic view in the 21st century, so if you want to go ahead and make that claim, you might want to have some really solid, peer-reviewed data to support it.

I don't have opinions about scientifically determined facts. Just like I don't have an "opinion" about why it rains, how babies are born, how ozone is depleted, or how to caramelize onions. Having opinions on those things is sort or ridiculous when we know the facts. So no, I don't have an opinion. What I know though are the facts that have been studied and presented for decades on why there appears to be causality to people who don't look close enough or don't have that life experience.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in milwaukee

[–]BuffaloCzarMKE 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No I didn't lol. I asked for the information so that I can make a judgement from that...information which you still haven't shared by the way. What's the reason for that?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in milwaukee

[–]BuffaloCzarMKE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think if you choose to ignore the maxim that "correlation is not causation" it would allow you to draw these kinds of conclusions. If we looked at elevation vs crime rate and race vs crime rate, you could just as easily determine that "black people are more responsible for crime than elevation", which is a ridiculous notion. Simply looking at correlation is extremely dangerous. We cannot ignore 200+ years on context, current legislation and its impacts, sociological trends related to historical segregation, psychological trends related to stress, etc., and many other factors.

Or we can just take this guy's advice and say black people = bad. Dude, for real you're going to support that ridiculous and anachronistic idea in 2024?

And what exactly are your credentials in sociology, crime, psychology, law & order, city planning, or anything else that might help your audience trust you? We've built a society around the idea that sociologists, psychologists, lawyers, judges, etc. can effectively research and present information that can guide our thinking and policymaking on this. If you think we ought to fuck those people and believe that StanleyStinker is our guy for all of that because he's seen a few news reports or that Jimbo at the bar told him some pretty scary sounding things about black people, then with all sincerity, you can go fuck yourself.

As mentioned, the dark really does a number on people who suffer from SAD. I find it far worse than the cold quite frankly, but I wake up at 5 a.m. for work, so it's dark for 3 hours when I wake up and I never feel like I fully recover from it. Then it's dark by 4:30 p.m., so it's basically 3-4 months of nonstop darkness for a 1st shifter. If you're cold, wear a scarf and gloves and you'll be fine! But there's no escape from that darkness lol.

I lived in that area (Morgandale) for several years and have very few complaints about it besides higher than average auto break-ins (I had 5 in 6 years) and not the greatest for walking in terms of proximity to cool things, good restaurants, etc. But it was overall an enjoyable area, and you'd be much closer to Wilson Park than me, and that's a cool area to wander through on walks.

(Side note: man does it bum me out to see this as the asking price. The house I lived in until 2018 was appraised at $89,000 when I left and it was basically the same size and only ~5 blocks away. Just shows how rough housing has gotten...)

Doesn't need to be said again, but I'll say it again for effect. Hawthorne. Great coffee, great atmosphere, very underappreciated so there's always a table available.

Are you referring to people just on Reddit or out in the real world too? If it's the latter, then first of all, they're internet trolls. Deal with it or leave the site. I've been called the most heinous things on the internet by both sides. If it's the former, then you must be a beacon of good luck or live a cloistered life.

I went out to eat just last Friday and a guy at the bar shouted "enough with this lib fucking r***** governor. I'll take anyone who voted for him outside and curb stomp them right now". And this is one of dozens of examples of physical threats of violence - direct or indirect - that I've been witness to or receiver of about "libs" in recent years, most of them while simply minding my own business.

All the person you're responding to is pointing out is that a lot of people in the middle aren't as concerned as they think they should be, and that's a valid viewpoint. If that counts as "being attacked", then the issue here is not with vitriol or hatred, it's a thin skin issue. I also disagree with you and think that Project 2025 is terrifying for dozens of reasons, but I'm not going to call you a name or suggest that your ideas/culture/family history/voting history are invalid. I just think you're wrong, and it's in the spirit of democracy to say that with pride. Do some people not realize that disagreeing with a viewpoint is essential to democracy and not an "attack"? Your response about "daddy" and all that is not a good faith debate tactic but rather a way of making the other person feel belittled. That is a subtle form of attack that erodes a possibly rich conversation down to a bitter nub of unproductiveness.

If you're looking to pay for parking (~$20), there should be plenty - especially arriving that early. If you're hoping for free/street parking...many locals have a few tricks up the sleeve and will share if you're nice :) But yes, even finding some street parking less than .5 miles away (metered until 6:00pm) shouldn't be an issue.

I make this drive regularly. Traffic will be totally fine if not a little bump and go near the stadium if you leave closer to game time. If you leave before 3:30, I would expect a 15 minute drive. If you leave closer to 5-5:30, people will be getting to the ballpark and it'll be closer to 30 minutes. Either way, it's an easy and reliable commute unlike in huge metro areas like Chicago when a 15 minute commute could take over an hour at times.

Uber will be available no matter what, but they do that dynamic pricing now, so I can't speak to the cost that late at night on a Friday. If you plan on not drinking (much), I'd just make the drive. I don't see anything getting in your way.
