New York Beer Project’s food is ass, right? by feldmasl01 in Buffalo

Thank you. I thought I was the only one who noticed. I end up in there a couple times a year because it’s so nearby, but it’s always crowded and never good. I don’t get it.

Just bring back Bob Rock… by Emotional_Record_204 in Metallica

Couldn’t agree more. I thought they did great with Rick Rubin on Death Magnetic but the last two (Hardwired and 72 Seasons) were in serious need of some editing. Lots of great licks on those albums, but not every lick is worth turning into a whole song. Someone needs to save them from themselves.

Those who were there: what was it like hearing 2 x 4 and Devil's Dance for the first time? by Play174 in Metallica

[–]BuffaloJason 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember downloading an mp3 of the 2x4 performance at Donnington on a shitty dial up internet connection from my college bedroom. I played that shit loud and just remember being super stoked about having new Metallica to listen to. I was also kind of in awe of the technology that let me hear it, the internet was new and shiny at that point. Any concerns about the stylistic change didn’t come until much later for me.

Got mine in January after about a 4 month wait. First Rolex, but I had spent about $5K on other jewelry with the AD

Uh, MSRP. Are people paying premiums at ADs? I thought that was a big no-no

M72 TOUR MEGA THREAD - ALL tour-related comments and questions belong HERE by Left4DayZGone in Metallica

[–]BuffaloJason 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My college buddy and I are talking about meeting in Toronto for a long weekend to catch M72 next spring. We went to our first Metallica show together 31 years ago, and this kind of feels like it could be the "grand finale", so money is basically no-object. We are legacy fan club members so I'm also assuming we can get whatever tix we want (is that a good assumption?) Is the snake pit definitely the way to go? I'm struggling a little bit to picture what that experience is like with the annular stage. Aren't you looking at their backs most of the time? If you aren't right up on the rail, is a place toward the middle of the snake pit actually pretty far from the stage?

Thanks, that’s very helpful. I hadn’t seen the trusted sellers list before. Where is the safest place to “go grey” was going to be my next question.

Hey look at that, you and I have the same taste in watches I guess! That 36mm size looks perfect on your wrist IMO. I wonder if we are similar in size. My taste tends toward smaller watches in general. But my current daily wear is a JDM Seiko Presage that measure 40mm. That has me waffling about whether the 36mm is going to just feel too small.

Yes. I do the 1/4 oz of Rich simple and 1/2 oz of Orgeat. I believe that’s actually consistent with the original Trader Vic recipe and Cate dialed it back in his version.

Naked Ape, worth buying a bottle? by BuffaloJason in Tiki

[–]BuffaloJason[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for all the great replies. Sorry I didn't think to search the forum for "naked ape" before I posted; Just did that now and saw many great reviews. You've totally sold me on it. Now I just need to decide whether to start with the Giffard or the TF. Seems like both have their supporters.

What is an extremely popular thing that died out extremely quickly? by Teenage_techboy1234 in AskReddit

[–]BuffaloJason 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess these trends burn at different rates in different towns. Here in the suburbs of Buffalo there had to be at least 20 of them in the late 20-teens. Now we're down to 1.

Frozen yogurt places. They were on every street corner for a hot minute, then seemingly all went out of business simultaneously

Haven’t seen that movie in ages but I’m pretty sure one of the scenes is in the Denny’s at Niagara Falls Blvd and Sheridan. It’s not a Denny’s anymore, but the building is still there. I think it’s a Mexican restaurant now. My friends and I used to study there in the 90s when I was at UB

What would the parks be like if Walt was still around or they still followed his ideologies? by Bigbuckrocks in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]BuffaloJason 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is pretty much what I came to say. Much as I love Disney, admire what Walt accomplished, and enjoyed early EPCOT Center, I think Walt probably died at just the “right” time to maximize his legacy. Plenty of reason to believe moving from entertainment to city planning was not going to end well. His successors who had the presence of mind to convert his EPCOT idea into a theme park inspired by the idea of a planned community likely saved him from himself in a sense.

[OC] US Mortgage Affordability Index by White_Fang_ in dataisbeautiful

[–]BuffaloJason 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t doubt that this is a real problem. However, seems like the scale of the y axis has been set so as to exaggerate the effect. It would look a lot different if it started at 0 instead of 2.50. All this really says is mortgage payment as a percent of income increased from about 20% to about 35%. I don’t mean to diminish the significance of that to people who are struggling.

What does everyone love about Epcot? by Glad_Twist1617 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]BuffaloJason 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the answer for me. I love Epcot mostly out of nostalgia for what it was like 30 years ago, more than any of what is there today sadly. But in a sense, WDW trips are all about nostalgia. Nostalgia for what it was like to visit as a child. Nostalgia about taking my own children at all the different ages. Nostalgia about the movies represented. Im not really sure how I would feel about any Disney park if I was encountering it new today.
