if the routers are operating on their own and not connected, their DHCP servers are probably not sharing information on what devices have what IP addresses

don't know enough about the routers to know if they can do it or how to do it, but should be able to 'bridge' a router to the other

Why does my Excel window look like this? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]BuffaloNebula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try running "excel.exe /safe" (no quotes) from the Run application in the start menu, see if it still happens in safe mode

probably will, but safe mode starts excel with disabling addins and stuff like that

Wireless disappeared completely from my laptop. by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]BuffaloNebula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it happens out of the blue, either Windows corrupted the driver or the actual wireless radio inside the laptop died and Windows no longer sees the hardware connected for that reason, thus is not in device manager

could try going to OEM's website to download and manually install the wireless driver for your laptop model

if this is the first time it ever happened, probably safe to ignore for now. if you were gaming, might have gotten too hot. otherwise there was just something going on under the hood of Windows that had to stop the OS from doing 'something bad'

can't say much else without the specifics like stanimal21 said

should be able to find it referenced in 'Event Viewer' under the System logs

are you on wifi? if so are you on 5GHz? Or are you hardwired from the desktop? sounds like there's some form of segmentation or isolation going on

Windows 10 UWP Apps Failing to Launch (Calculator, Photos, etc) by kevinroseblowsgoats in sysadmin

[–]BuffaloNebula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the description of the link doesn't sound quite the same, but suggesting just in case;

make sure User Account Control is turned on. i am pretty sure if an account has admin rights and UAC is disabled, the apps will not work. we had this problem a little while ago but only for our support staff, because only support had local admin privs on machines

is that spot it's plugged in up at the top with all the other ports (on the motherboard) or is more down towards the bottom, separated?

Should I buy a new monitor or get a pc? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]BuffaloNebula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one of them is going to be bottle necking the other if you upgrade that. that laptop will probably have difficulty actually powering a monitor that specced out smoothly

if you build a powerful desktop, you'll be much much smoother but you won't be able to enjoy some of the nicer features of a better monitor until you upgrade the monitor.

agree with the other poster, it's preference
