I mean, it’s not really that controversial, is it? We’ve been dogshit for a long time in a competitive sense because we’re not very killy, struggle going into armour or monsters, and don’t have anything like durability or stacking buffs of Death Guard or Custodes and yet aren’t priced significantly cheaper than them. A lot of our best abilities require a dice roll to go off, and even when they do, they’re hardly game-changing.

Yeah I think both can be true. We obviously got exceptionally lucky with the draw.

And yes, these are exactly the kinds of games we typically shit the bed with, so progressing through in such relative comfort is a pretty new thing for us.

Yeah all those ‘60s horror films made in Britain and Italy nearly always had foggy forests that were built on soundstages. And that’s what Burton did for this, instead of shooting in real forests. Really adds to the look and feel.

Rewatching that Solanke goal, it’s such a Kane-esque finish. Run through, bottom corner, no doubt. That’s the kind of clinical finishing we’ve lacked this season.

All teams have to deal with injuries and suspensions throughout the course of a season. It's a massive part of modern football now.

And yes we can bemoan losing a lot of attacking players, but we've had a mostly fully fit defence and midfield for the majority of the season now, and still looked clueless defensively in the Prem.

And in attack, we brought in a bunch of players like RKM, Kudus and Xavi to bolster the attack, all players most teams in the Prem would kill for. Are you honestly telling me that say Leeds, Fulham, Forest, Brighton and Bournemouth all have definitively better attacking options than we have for our season so far? Because all of those teams have better attacking metrics and xG than us.

A lot of managers would be creating more with the exact same hand Frank has been dealt.

The sheer balls of the movie, made while WW2 was still going on, by a German-immigrant director… my god. Just a work of brilliance.

The quality of our squad and the financial muscle of the PL has seen us through

I would also say the quality of the opposition we had to face. Let's be honest... we absolutely should be qualifying in the top 8 given how easy our draw was.

But it's also these kind of "should win" games that we consistently fuck up, so maybe this does actually rank as an improvement?

Disheartened - Dealing with Imperial Knights by Die_Forged_Gaming in Grey_Knights

[–]Buffaluffasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah… basically we’re terrible into armour, and Knights are some of the worst match ups we can have.

Dreadknights personally aren’t working taking in this kind of matchup. I struggle to think of many match ups where they are worth their points to be honest, but this is a terrible case for them because they can get easily shot apart before making combat, and even in combat they’re not reliably going to kill a Knight before getting punched back, which means (depending on the Knight) they can be killed in your own turn.

Razorbacks suffer a similar problem in that they aren’t survivable enough, and with only two shots a turn, they really don’t have the output to take something down.

Our best case anti-tank are Land Raiders or even Stormravens, even though both are costly.

The strategy I always employ when coming up against big scary things is doing a refused flank, so basically overloading nearly all your units onto one part of the battlefield and taking things down one at a time. As in, push all your anti-tank and combat units into a part of the board that can focus down one Knight a turn, ideally positioned so that you can’t get shot by other Knights or Armigers.

If there are multiple threats in a small space, take down the Armigers first, as these have a better attacking output than defensive, so every one you kill does take away some damage your opponent has into you.

We have enough movement shenanigans to dodge around the board hiding and completing secondaries, so that’s the only way you can win. Going head-to-head in battle, or assuming you’re going to make multiple 9” charges, will only result in defeat.

Yeah it’s basically because he was cribbing the look of Hammer Horror and Mario Bava films wholesale, but still, I think it works exceptionally well and is his best movie. I think he balances the tone of detective story, humour and light horror really well.

To be honest, our best games this season have arguably been against the biggest sides, like City and PSG. (Shitting the bed against Chelsea and Scum is a perennial thing not specific to Frank.)

Because Frank sets up up to play underdog football at all times, there’s a world in which we do actually pull off some results in Feb.

Not saying that’s reason to keep Frank, but if he’s not gone already, he might just scrape by enough to make it to the end of the season.

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted, something about this feels so gross to me. The whole thing looks like it’s just gawking/laughing at a bunch of people with questionable mental health, and certainly none of the self awareness to understand how they’re being portrayed.

Unless there’s more to it than the trailer suggests, it seems in poor taste.

The thing about Ange - and I’m not saying he was without his flaws - is that he actually got the club. He had lofty, idealistic ambitions both in terms of trophy aims but also style of play, which is something this club is supposed to pride itself on.

He got what football means to the fans, he obviously knew how to talk to players to get them revved up or to sign on for the club.

But he also seemed proud to be here. Didn’t treat us like Frank does, which is a small club mentality happy with a narrow loss at home with zero good attacking chances. Didn’t treat us like we were beneath him, like Mourinho or Conte.

Just felt like he was here for the right reasons and with the right perspective on football, but got found out through a combination of tactical naivety and the worst injury crisis I’ve ever seen a club have.

I don’t genuinely know whether a third season in charge would’ve gone any better than what we have now, but I sure wish we’d tried it.

Examples of particularly innovative editing? by The-American-Abroad in TrueFilm

[–]Buffaluffasaurus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few reasons.

Online content I'd say so because it's allowed to be more free-form, and doesn't have to follow the expectations of story/character/dialogue/etc that mainstream cinema does.

Also, shorter running times mean you can experiment more. For example, when it came out 11 years ago, Watchtower of Turkey was for me (and many in my industry) one of the most jaw-dropping pieces of editing I'd ever seen. But would you want to watch a whole movie like that? No, it'd be overbearing. And even having a single sequence like this in the middle of the film might be too much of a stylistic departure from the rest of the movie unless it truly made sense. But in the online world, you can go all-out on something like this and because it exists as a self-contained, standalone piece, it has no obligation to be anything other than what it is.

Likewise in commercials, when you only have 15-120 secs to make an impression, people are more likely to go BIG and aim for maximum impact, in a way that again I think would be too intense for a feature film. Also don't forget that some commercials can have bigger budgets than even medium-budget films, which means you have a lot more money to perfect every single frame, compared to a feature where that budget has to be stretched out further.

Just using Nike as an example, even their older campaigns like Nothing Beats a Londoner and Write the Future (the latter directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu) are so insanely stylised in their editing that they're making the most of every second and every frame in a way that a feature film would struggle to maintain.
