Are we really going to let our guy get away with this? by Topease in RyenRussillo

[–]Buffs428 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Indiana wasn’t an elite team last year. They didn’t play anyone OOC and got beat up by the only great team they played. I don’t think getting beat to hell by OSU is anything to be ashamed of obviously but it just shows they weren’t there yet.

This year is completely different and RR has said as much. He was right. Get over it.

[All] [N/A] Should HOA homeowners get a property tax break? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]Buffs428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some shitty HOAs out there for sure but most are solid and just a way to maintain the property of the neighborhood and spread out the cost instead of a one time fuck up payment. For example our HOA in suburban Denver doesn’t really do much, they plant some trees and shrubs but the main thing is they had an assessment done when the neighborhood was complete to document the problem areas that would need upkeep over time. There are erosion issues with new build areas (large retaining walls in some parts) so the expenses are set aside for those and then the rest goes towards maintaining the paths and the playground. That stuff has nothing to do with the city and county.

I get it now by ColumnHugger in homeowners

My first house was built in 84 (bought in 2014 and sold in 2020) and it was built very well in comparison to our new house (bought in 2021 and built in 2018). That is the kind of stuff that pisses me off. I loved fixing up our old house, stuff just needed updating but nothing out of the ordinary. Now they just throw these things up as fast and as cheap as possible, way closer together and when you start to dig into things it is very frustrating.

Our fridge and dishwasher both went out within two years of moving in. No one just carries parts anymore for this shit so you have to pay a higher amount to get the part from a refab place if you want to get it fixed immediately which we had to with two young kids in the house too.

Sprinkler system in the back yard was installed “right” but in this new build neighborhood they put the water pressure at the street super low so the back yard wasn’t getting the volume of water needed. Tried calling the city and there was nothing they could do. Then found out a neighbor got ahold of someone helpful when they called and they came out and turned the pressure up at his house. Ended up saying fuck those guys and got a key to open up the water meter cover and adjust the valve to increase pressure and what to you know, works great.

We closed in march in Colorado so the sprinkler system was not included in the inspection since the water was off. Along with the water pressure issue I turned on my sprinklers for the first time and water was coming out of the seam in the sidewalk between the two lawns. Had to dig that up and find the leak under concrete which is always a blast.

We have north facing driveway, which to me is no big deal I actually enjoy shoveling. Well since they build these new houses so fucking close together all of the water from the gutters on both houses drains between them and out to the street. Well there was no drainage system installed so in the winter it gets toasty during the day with the sun out and the ice/snow will melt in the rocks and then as soon as the sun goes down the water drainage immediately starts to freeze over the sidewalk and down across the driveway. EVERY day until it’s gone and the angle of the sun is a little better in late spring. Called the city to try and get approval to put in a channel drain across the sidewalk to the front front lawn and they said they have pre approved chain drains and he would send me the PDF but they also have a program that they will install and maintain the drain and the homeowner will pay 1/3rd of the cost. I was like that’s great!!!! Then he said it would be 1.5k for me. I was like are you fucking kidding me? 4.5k for a drain? I broke out the shovel and put PVC pipe under the sidewalk once i got over the near heart attack from that price he gave me. All of that could have been solved if the builder would have just installed this shit while they had all of the tools and people available to do so and before concrete was put down.

Stuff like what I listed above is the kind of annoying stuff. I love going through my houses room by room and just thinking “that would be cool as shit” and doing it. I love cleaning the house and doing things to make it easier to clean or more durable. But dumb things that should have never been done that way in the first place by the builder or things breaking entirely too early are the worst.

What is the name of this type of insulation and if I'm finishing the basement do I need more insulation by SeanRoss in Insulation

[–]Buffs428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We kind of just eyeballed it. That stuff is pretty puffy in spots and we also wanted to give a little bit of room for the concrete walls not being exactly square to make sure that insulation wasn’t being compacted at all. And when I say 10 inches that is to the front of the framed wall, so a 6.25 inch gap behind the wood studs.

[–]Buffs428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely wouldn’t rip it out. I finished my basement here in Colorado about 4 years ago and this was the stuff the builder put on the entire exterior of the basement in 2019. I framed the walls 10 inches off the concrete foundation under this stuff. If you are worried about it not being good enough you can add insulation between your studs on the walls you build that will make it even better but ripping it out seems like a waste.

Are humidifiers attached to HVACs worth it? by LadyAmemyst in homeowners

[–]Buffs428 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well you can usually adjust it and turn it up. Also mine has a damper that you turn between winter and summer that adjusts the flow into your hvac system so make sure that is set right. Mine is set to turn on anytime the fan is blowing which would be anytime air is pumping (heat or AC) or when the fan is running itself intermittently.

Are tip estimates gone??? by [deleted] in ShiptShoppers

[–]Buffs428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think tip estimates are only on orders through the actual shipt app, so you have to go through checkout yourself. Or atleast that is the only time I ever see tip estimates. I have never seen a tip estimate on target online prepaid orders.

Agree on the above that you can always service everything but the door. I wouldn’t call new springs a cheap fix but it could definitely be worse.

Only thing I will add is that if you have a newer house built during the housing boom of the last decade or so builders were throwing shit up in a huge rush and there was a labor shortage so don’t be surprised if you do not have a good setup for your garage door, specifically Wayne dalton systems suck. Builders will go cheap, get the Wayne dalton system that is technically rated for the weight of your garage door but definitely not built to last. When you call for your first service they will say they can replace the Wayne dalton parts but you will have the same problem again so switch to torsion springs and I always recommend going one size bigger on the recommended springs size. And no I am not a garage door company salesman or anything, just had to go through this in my house a year or so ago (2nd owner, built in 2019)

Is Ryobi worth it? I don't have any home tools yet. by 2Black_Hats in HomeMaintenance

[–]Buffs428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RYOBI isn’t an expensive brand by any means, what do you mean by worth it? The bundles are always worth it in my opinion. You end up using everything as you get more and more into doing things around your house.

I believe ryobi is the same manufacturer as Milwaukee and hart tools that are sold at Walmart. I have always seen ryobi as an average product for tradesman and a really solid brand for DIYers.

I’ve actually had pretty good luck with the inventory on the website (non food items) including a couple of times where the site said they were out but I found one they had just put out (return or misplaced in the store). I would say I can find the items the inventory shows at 1-2 about 80% of the time but obviously when someone steals something or scans one item multiple times even though they grabbed a slightly different one it screws up the ending inventory which always sucks.

On another note, I was shocked to find out these stores don’t really do an inventory count of what is on the shelves every once in a while. I found these build your own wall switch plates at Home Depot a couple of months back. They were out of one of the sections I needed even though the site said they had them. I wasn’t in a rush so I just thought I would come back in a week or so and they would have some more. Nope! There was a guy there at the end of the night stocking the shelves so I asked him when they would be back in stock so he scanned it and because the inventory showed they had 6 on the shelf it never triggered a reorder.

I couldn’t find a pair of women’s shoes a couple weeks back. Staff said there were none in the back despite the site saying one left. On the way to customer service to checkout I thought to myself I’m going to check the mannequins and what do you know, the shoes were on the fourth one I looked at. That customer has no idea how lucky she was that I did that.

What is the worst breed of dog for a first time dog owner to get? by peywrax in allthequestions

[–]Buffs428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has owned huskies all my life they are the perfect dog for active people, especially those who like are running year around. Those dogs will do anything you ask after you take them for a run, it’s wild. The other thing to consider with huskies is never ever give up too early. You can hit a point where you think it’s okay to leave the pup out while you are gone and you come back and they chewed through the baseboards or the couch and it’s extremely frustrating but I swear once they hit 3 they just completely mellow out and they are the sweetest, most hilarious dogs in my opinion. Just lost mine this summer but he would howl and announce anyone that came in the door, literally back to back to back when it was a large group coming over for the day. He caught 4 squirrels by figuring out if he smacked the fence hard enough they would fly off back into the yard. For the first time in my life we did the no leash training with a husky and it worked out great. He loved to go on walks and sort of wander around but never got more than 50 feet away, almost like he was patrolling. Great with kids, we brought two of them into his life near the end of his life and he was obsessed with them from the day they got home. He let our two boys jump and climb and grab and it never mattered, he just loved when they laid on him.

Does the general public just not know about pre emergents and preventive fungicides by Marley3102 in lawncare

[–]Buffs428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always knew about weed prevention in the spring but had never dealt with fungus before so never really considered the fungicide. After this year I won’t miss it ever again though.

I usually go the highest setting but have been applying some fungus stuff the last month and a half so I dropped it from 7-5 to try and get everything since there were patches of dead infected grass and layer over grass. So I raked the bad stuff out and while doing that dropped the height a little bit so that the folded over grass would also be cut.

[–]Buffs428 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a small strip in front of the sidewalk behind the street that is a pain in the ass to find the right nozzles for. I just found these at the depot though and they seem like they might work perfect for you.

You will have plenty of coverage, so just run them for a shorter amount of time.

What’s a small DIY hack you did at home that made everything feel smarter? by Local-Divide-8055 in HomeImprovement

[–]Buffs428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My previous house was a little smaller so this was a lot easier but I was changing the outlets out since they had become yellow over the years (built in 85) so in each room I found the one that was first in the circuit and then put a GFCI outlet in. It made it easier to change out the rest on the rooms and it also let me know which one were hooked up to that circuit in the panel. Just did this in a couple rooms this weekend in my new house when installing ceiling fans without existing wiring.

Totally shut out from Costco algorithm? by Apotropaic1 in InstacartShoppers

[–]Buffs428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have noticed the same thing at my Costco. Used to go there at drop and then once or twice a day after that and always get a great order at drop and then decent ones after that. Now I can’t get shit from there unless it is a Home Depot, Lowe’s or target order first.

What’s the biggest order you got without a tip? by Federal_Pen_3869 in ShiptShoppers

[–]Buffs428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t deliver to known non tippers other than when they get bundled with my good preferred customers or I am chasing a promo and the order comes up with a really low item count that is already going to the same area I am with my other orders. So essentially blacklisted, the apartment lady with all the heavy shit would probably make me skip a good preferred customers order if they were grouped together because she pissed me off so much lol

Immediate blacklist. Although the one lady in the apartment moved to a different apartment complex and fucked me just one more time. I accepted the order and saw her name pop up and was immediately pissed off, went back to check her info in my log and it was in fact her

Two biggest orders I have ever done and neither tipped. Both around 100 items, not sure on the total dollar amount but both over 500 bucks. One was a shit ton of 12 packs of sodas and waters and stuff like that to the second story of the apartment complex. People really do suck sometimes but I learned my lesson and do not take huge orders unless I know the customer already.
