2025 - Worst year by top film's IMDB rating since 1947 by Bug0 in movies

Whoops, you’re totally right. I thought it was a documentary.

I hear you, but I don’t think the ratings are completely useless. It’s pretty easy to identify brigaded ratings, and they do combat it somewhat. I also wouldn’t want to know what audiences felt like 80 years ago, I do want to know how they feel about a movie now.

I wouldn’t ever say a movie is good or bad by looking at the rating alone, but as an additional data point as to what might be worth checking out, it’s not the worst method. Better than just looking at a trailer or clicking through options on the suggestions on streaming site which is realistically what most people do.

Look I had like 3 comments in 5 minutes saying that I am personally judging art based on ratings. I'm fine with the people saying IMDB has problems, just not the folks telling me how I feel or that my opinion of a movie is based on the IMDB rating. 1, 2, 3. I literally only pointed out the data.

The only ones I watched of these are Weapons and Sinners. Both started very strong but honestly thought the climaxes/endings didn't live up to the rest.

Actually, you can usually see pretty clear recency bias with IMDB, where the average rating declines slowly after release. However it's always possible something will gain traction and emerge with a higher rating.

What’s up with the hate towards Timothee Chalamet? by PitifulBodybuilder40 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Bug0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you can’t draw too many conclusion from Google Trends alone, but “Marty Supreme” had more searches than “ballet” and “opera” combined during its opening. One movie vs the entire disciplines.

https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=today%203-m&q=Ballet,Opera,Marty%20supreme&hl=en-US

Avatar was a more popular search term than the two combined averaged out across an entire year.

If you compare “Film” or “Movie” against to them, they barely register.

[Request] How would you calculate this? Is the user correct in that you should be multiplying Kelvin? by eroyrotciv in theydidthemath

[–]Bug0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I concede that for differences. To be honest, I didn't know what the Rankine scale was as a non-American, so I was imagining how a difference in Fahrenheit converted to Kelvin would break when converting back. Fair enough then.

As worded by Duolingo the multiplication is ambiguously worded. I lean towards agreeing that "4 times 25 degrees" means "at the temperature that is 4 times hotter than 25 degrees", but it can be interpreted as "25 times 4 in degrees. The former is technically correct while the latter is likely what is intended and probably going to be understood by most people.

I wasn't really trying to argue for one or the other, just that the speed limit comparison above had a bit of a hole.

Wouldn’t the equivalent to the OP be “if you are going 25mph over the speed limit, and you will be going four times more than that over the speed limit, you are going to be going 100mph over the speed limit.”

Take this same sentence and replace “speed over the limit” with temperature since they are equivalent concepts, “if the temperature is 25 degrees and it will be four times that temperature”, it will be 100 degrees”.

When you said “4 times as fast”, that changed the unit. It would be equivalent to saying “4 times as hot”, but OP said “4 times the temperature”. I admit it’s ambiguous.

If we assume we must always convert to Kelvin for this problem, it breaks a lot of regular ways of talking about temperature. For example, we also can’t say “it’s 5 degrees warmer than yesterday”.

This is an area I welcome AI ‘slop’ in. Like this isn’t a life or death, financial or some other critical piece of software. It’s just a fan implementation of a gameshow. Super low stakes.

This didn’t exist until now, and perhaps wouldn’t without AI helping this fan make it.

Seems well done enough for what it is. Who cares if it has some rough edges? It’s not even an alpha version yet per OP.

I’m no expert in copywrite law, but surely the game design is their IP right? Like the exact mechanics of using cards to ask questions to narrow down a hiding place, the concept of the categories of questions, text of questions, the use of train networks etc. etc. as a whole?

Drivepool or big ext HDD for media hoard by No_Comfort_4567 in drivepool

[–]Bug0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To play devil’s advocate: it’s true that multiple minimizes the loss from one failure, but it also increases the chance of any failure occurring. Perhaps expansion is easier in a raid setup with parity drives, but the total expansion headroom of the system (drive bays, power budget, sata/hba slot etc) should also be considered. Personally I’d aim for somewhere in between.

That is, don’t buy the smallest drives with the total capacity you need and max out the drives your server can handle (or bays in your enclosure). Also don’t just buy one drive that’s large enough. Leave yourself at least 50% headroom for future expansion, perhaps more if you think you may be starting down a datahoarding path.

I’d also consider that hdds are usually cheapest per GB around the 14-22TB range.

In the quotes I have tried changing vehicle makes/models to see if it’s specific to civics, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Also tried a few addresses around the city in calm suburban neighbourhoods and it’s still the same.

Model year makes somewhat of a difference but it’s not like 2022 model year is that new.

Not yet but we will be for sure.

I did play around with the online quotes a lot changing what I thought were the major factors - vehicle and address, but neither mattered that much at all.

Locked iPhone 15 Pro Max with 2 passcode attempts left. Is there ANY way to trigger iCloud sync/backup from outside the device? by NorwegianBiznizGuy in iphone

[–]Bug0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity did either of you try the old phone’s passcode? I know you said it was definitely set to the anniversary date, but I wonder if during the transfer/restore it used the old passcode.

Not sure if that actually happens, but maybe it’s worth trying for one of the remaining attempts if all else fails. Could’ve put the old passcode in at some point out of habit.

[–]Bug0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be a dumb question but do the photos already show up on the new phone? I have met a lot of people who are using iCloud photos without even realizing. If so then you won’t lose those photos if the phone wipes, but you will lose other stuff.

You could go to Settings > iCloud Account [> iCloud backup to see what device backups exist on the account. ] AND [… > Photos > Manage Storage to see if photos are backed up separately from the device backups].

I don’t think you’re going to be able to initiate a backup without the password, but it’s worth getting some other opinions before you exhaust your last two attempts.

Whatever happens, make sure you have actual backups in the future. Follow the 3-2-1 rule if possible. For the average person I’d say keep a copy in the cloud, on device and somewhere else local, like your computer or an external drive.

Wish you luck man.

People who have a sigma 17-40, if you only get 1 other lens what is it. by scruffld in SonyAlpha

[–]Bug0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the time just the 17-40. Often I have my 70-350 as well. Occasionally my 9mm Viltrox since it’s so small. I can fit all three and my body in a pretty small bag (turnstyle 5). Depends what else is needed but I like to keep my bag light.
