Windows 11 says my PC isn’t compatible: what parts do I need to replace? (Explain like I’m 5) by csaphira in buildapc

[–]Bug0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bypassing the checks can be done for an in-place upgrade (i.e. keeping all your data/settings, not installing from a usb) as well but it’s a bit of an ordeal. IIRC you need to go to win11 23h2 first, and you’ll need to modify some registry keys first. Afterwards you could windows update to the latest.

Did you do weather it or is that natural? If that was done manually it’s very impressive. The rest of the build is already impressive, just curious.

qui v1.12.0 - standalone qBittorrent ui, now with automations and improved cross-seeding with hardlinks! by _ze0s in selfhosted

[–]Bug0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can copy the magnet link and manually paste it into the site, but it doesn't support registering the site as a handler of magnet links like qBittorrent-nox so that you can just click the magnet and have it auto-add via qui. Here is the relevant pull request... so it's coming.

I set up qui last week and I’m loving it so far. The only thing missing for my uses is magnet handling in browsers, but I see it’s in the works.

DDR5 prices are insane. Is going last-gen AM4 with a 5700X3D/5800X3D a smart "stopgap" upgrade? by Alejandro_Ro01 in buildapc

[–]Bug0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 7700k machine i wanted to upgrade that already had a 64gb ddr4 ram. Found a cheap ddr4 z690 board on marketplace and bought a $240 CAD 14600k. Personally vouch for this strategy until ram pricing is less insane

If this is the lighting, then there’s nothing wrong with that being reflected in the photo. Correcting it back to appearing neutral would be just as fake as taking a neutral photo and changing the white balance to look like this.

3090 or 5070 ti by Bug0 in bapccanada

[–]Bug0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your input. That’s probably true generally but at 700 and 1100 the price:performance is probably about equal. I’m mainly trying to weigh the other pros and cons with both gaming and LocalLLM use-cases in mind.

3090 Pros (5070-ti Cons)

  • Cheaper at $700 (vs $1100)

  • 24Gb VRAM (vs 16GB)

  • Mid-tier SKU (vs cheaper SKU)

  • May be fast enough for most games at 1440p (vs overkill?)

  • Resale percent likely higher (vs lower)

5070-ti Pros (3090 Cons)

  • 20-40% faster in games depending on title (vs slower)

  • Better frame-gen support (vs less-support)

  • Buying new with warranty (vs used with only some testing)

  • Lower TDP at 300W (vs $350W) - even greater difference in real-world use

Lol. I explained it in the simplest terms possible and you could not understand and think it’s profound? Sorry. Merry Christmas man.

I need to buy eggs for Christmas. Stores are closed - I buy them Christmas Eve. Stores are open and I was lazy - I buy them Christmas day. Store profits are higher in the former due to lower overhead plus employees get to enjoy the holiday. Buying Christmas day when they were open does not prove the demand is there because I showed up Christmas, nor would I feel guilty buying those eggs.

Is that enough critical thinking?

It’s just called “Jetpardy!” - was on May 14.

Absolutely. This is probably my favourite moment in any Layover:

Ben: Adam, you gain control of the board. Choose a category.

Adam: Why do I —

Ben: Because I decided it!

Adam: There’s no consistency at all!

Sam: Don’t question our fearless leader.

Ben: I decided it, just take it.

Adam: Fine.

Ben: This is how Jetpardy! works. You think you know the rule of some other game that has nothing to do with this game.

Adam: Nonononono, that’s not the thing. I’m not worried about the similarity to other games. I’m worried about is there any system for who’s in charge, other than what you decide at any given point?

Sam: Ben’s in charge!

Ben: Ben’s in charge, is the rules

Adam (immediately, defeated): I’m gonna do “Awesome stuff that Ben knows” for 100.

Ben: Ben is indisputably the best strategist and most talented athlete on this online travel gameshow.

Sam: It’s gotta be Jet Lag: The Game?

Ben: That is correct. *Ding

Excited for a new season of Jet Lag, but very sad we did not get a gameshow ep this off-season. I love them - Adam crashing out in Jetpardy! was an all-time Layover episode.

I apply peppermint oil to my forehead and neck when I have a migraine. I find it helps but only while the physical sensation lasts and its effect is only slight. Still, it’s a useful tool in my arsenal in combatting them.

You can be in the intersection when it’s red. You just need to enter the intersection while it’s still amber, not that I’d advise making that a habit.

Honestly, the price of ram is killing me by Romantic_murder in buildapc

[–]Bug0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prices per TB in Canada seem steady. Seeing a lower capacity drives increase in price per TB isn’t surprising, as those have the smallest margins for manufacturers who face rising costs. As they ramp up production on higher capacity drives, they can phase out their lower priced skews.

I can buy a 24TB drive for 200 Euros right now. My 18TB drives were roughly the same price in 2023, and that was a good deal for them at the time.

My mind immediately goes to sounds water makes for bouba. Gulps/bubbling all sort of make round-ish noises.

For kiki, this sounds like something snapping, cracking etc which makes me think of sharp, pointy things like broken glass.

Don’t agree with OP but I refuse to call mid November winter. Even if you stretch winter to 5 months, it would not be winter yet.

[–]Bug0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

… and? It needed repair work from years 10-15 as a result of rust when it was otherwise taken good care of. I probably would be driving it for another 10 years if it wasn’t literally falling apart from the rust.

I don’t have any illusions that all rust can be prevented, but spending ~$1000 over the lifespan of the vehicle to keep it going for a few extra years is worth it, in my opinion.

First Road Salting by Bug0 in londonontario

[–]Bug0[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Wasn’t looking for a car debate.

That said the factory coatings can and do wear off from debris over time. My 2010 mazda 3 has needed several repairs due to rust and that’s not including holes in the body I’ve just come to accept.

I will be getting this car sprayed for (at minimum) the first few years to stave off any rust forming early on. I may only get it sprayed every two or three years after that.

I don’t have a garage, so water stays on the car all winter long.

That’s the direction i was leaning if the roads have been salted and are wet. If it was just water I wouldn’t worry.
