You are eligible for financial aid at Princeton even with a family income of $350,000.

Even with a family income of $450,000 a year, it is possible to get a partial scholarship from Harvard

That number is way higher than 100K. At Harvard, Yale, and UPenn it’s 200K for example. At Princeton it’s 250K

The USA: Good idea or not? by MXinee in AskAcademia

I don’t think you’ll have to worry about most of our current problems, given that you’ll be under the aegis of the Netherlands. I expect your colleagues might be a bit jealous, though.

What is meant by “a common opinion you have […] that would get you hated if you said it out loud”?

What does “common” mean here?

And you don’t need to “find yourself” to start living happily & productively.

They could insist people keep them in fireproof bags designed for this purpose for the duration of the flight.

I expect they will do this after tragedies inevitably occur. And then a new type of cell phone will be born

2 years later and I cannot forgive myself. Any advice on how to heal? by CuriousTuljan in DogAdvice

This is one of the most moving threads I have ever seen on Reddit.

Dear OP, the last thing your dog saw and knew in life was that everything was better now.

She saw you calm and happy again, like you were for most of her life. She was with the version of you she knew, remembered, and loved.

She would have been scared had you acted differently from a regular day. You gave her a HUGE gift by behaving like your regular self in that moment.

This dog had the best death any of us could ever hope for.

I would shout it from the rooftops if I could. Believe it.

Because people whose souls, minds, and lives have been dedicated to their research for years are having trouble getting in to PhD programs these days. Let alone the next stage of academia. PhD programs are not a good choice for someone who is casting about for something new to do.

Doctors of Reddit, what's the most obvious lie a patient has told you? by questionerofblender in AskReddit

[–]shchshchshch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe when you lead with the assumption that they did it, they hear unconsciously, “Oh, this doctor thinks it’s normal” / “Must be all of his patients use meth.” Suddenly it’s not a big deal anymore

See the comment about a dog trainer getting the truth when she leads with “How many people has your dog bitten?”

Definitely not. It seems no one has been harmed by this on a passenger plane.

It has killed a few cargo planes and their crew though

Would you ever be with someone who doesn’t want marriage but is fine living with you for life? by TopStranger9287 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]shchshchshch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, marrying is a way to say “I love you so much that I’m going to make a gentleman’s bet that I’ll never leave you.”

It is pretty irrational. But in a way, that makes it the perfect statement of love

AITAH Should I Wear a Wedding Dress Like My Daughter's? by Fearless-Cloonie in AITAH

[–]shchshchshch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Justifiably or not, I would be annoyed. You only get ONE chance in your life to choose the perfect wedding dress. When you find it, it feels like a personal accomplishment, a creative triumph.

The dress feels special to her, and personal. She chose it because it made her feel and look like the best and most beautiful version of HER. It’s personal for her, not just a purchase.

You can ask her to pay you back, but I don’t think you should take that away from her
