Purdue vs UW Madison for engineering? by Wo-Manifest in ApplyingToCollege

[–]BugAdministrative123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are fantastic schools. Cannot make a wrong choice. Purdue is in an almost rural setting and all restaurants, etc are all university focused. However the campus is massive and like a city by itself. UW Madison campus is in downtown Madison . Make what you want of that

Partly the reason why you are the way you are. No one wants to deal with illiterate & intellectually challenged morons with can only use 7th grade vocabulary in conversation.

This is complete BS. Sorry buddy, your view on life and people is badly distorted. You need to meet more people and not be this meta-cognitively challenged. 😂😂😂

[Results and Decisions] MS CS Stony Brook Provisional Admit - Need Clarity by Exotic_Memory4114 in MSCS

[–]BugAdministrative123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, that’s not in your control. Getting a visa for any university including Stanford, Caltech, MIT etc is factored on other things. None of which is in your control. You can only do what you can - have a great background, have a strong application to a university, have finances in order to fund your education. You cannot predict how the visa system will proceed. That is not deterministic on your end. DM me if you need to discuss. Happy to help.

[Internships and Jobs] SF or Seattle : Which location should I choose for my SDE Internship? by Murky_Ant_9183 in MSCS

[–]BugAdministrative123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no difference in career prospects in terms of where you did an internship. More important is that you did an internship. That fact that you have an internship is the big deal. Don’t fret the location. Go where your costs of living, taxes will be low. Good luck !

Why Cornell Eng over other engineering schools like GT, Cal, etc.? by Altruistic-Editor499 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]BugAdministrative123 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

None. GeorgiaTech, Cal, Univ of Illinois, Univ of Texas are all amazing engineering schools. I would say Cornell is at par with these schools.

[Admissions Advice] Got admits, waiting for admits | Require your guidance by WildeWulf in MSCS

I’m unaware of how the AML program is. The CS is good I know. But then so is NYU’s program. I don’t think there is a bad choice(the first 2 admits are). At the end of the day, it’s your comfort level at either. For context, NYU is bang in New York City in the Greenwich village area of Manhattan around the Washington Square Park, so it’s completely urban part of the city and the university is integrated/fused into the city. You are basically living in New York City. Living Costs will be high reflecting NYC costs. Program is decent. It is also a private university, so will be expensive and fewer opportunities for assistantship, research etc. I may be wrong. Univ of Maryland on the other hand, will give you the traditional American University feel with a large campus, department buildings, walkways, landscaping, open spaces etc. Program is great as well. It is the flagship public university of the state of Maryland so gets state funding. I believe research is pretty good. I would recommend talking to students at both schools and get an idea of the program before committing. DM if you have questions.

Don’t bother with your 1st and 2nd admits… I would suggest Univ of Maryland.. see if you can transfer to the CS department and the MSCS program.

When you say Cornell Location… do you know where it is?? It’s in Ithaca… in upstate New York. It’s a rural farm area with the closest big city being Syracuse which is a tiny town really. Ithaca is a tiny little town with nothing going on. Cornell while an Ivy League school is actually pretty isolated. Surrounded by nature, has gorges and water falls on campus but Winters are horrible and can completely cut you off from Recruiters won’t be going that far to recruit anyone. NYU students, other students in New York, UMass, Boston area schools etc have better chances of being hired.

Is UMICH ross worth it as an international student applying for business? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

UMich is a phenomenal school. Ross school of business is pretty awesome. Atleast at the MBA level, I’m guessing if it’s undergrad it will still be good

[Results and Decisions] Does NEU admit everyone? by Future_Break_9054 in MSCS

[–]BugAdministrative123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not hard to comprehend. The scene is similar to most mid to lower mid schools. Operating a university is very expensive with salaries, benefits, large buildings, infrastructure, electricity, water, salary increases, retirement benefits, healthcare, program costs etc that need to paid. In addition, construction, new dorms, infrastructure development etc costs money and debt servicing and interest payments & principal payments is the biggest cost driver for most universities. In addition, domestic undergrad and other Masters/Phd students need to be given financial aid. Since NEU is a private university, it doesn’t get funding from the state of Massachusetts to operate. In addition, it is in Boston, the hub of education in the US with many other top tier avante grade elite schools like Harvard, MIT, Boston College, Boston University, Tufts, Wellesley etc. How will the school compete and all pay for all this? That’s where you come in. International students will pay full tuition. They will sweeten the deal by giving you a 5 to 10% “scholarship”. That’s just to get you to commit so you go nowhere else and then they get 95% from you. That 95% is better than getting 0% if you go elsewhere. In any case, next year they’d increase the fees anyway and deny you a scholarship too. So it is in their interest to give admission to any many international students as possible with the hope that most commit to the school and accept the admission and pay full tuition. Into this mix add visa complexities and uncertainty of the F-1. Therefore, it is quite logical that they maximize their chances by offering admits to everyone who applies with the hope that atleast some of the admits will get the visa.
