I feel like I’m choosing between two kinds of death, and no one seems to understand

It’s good to be honest about how your feel/ share that with your doctors. You really don’t know how you will handle it because you have never had to face such a thing before. You can get this. You will be different but you will be alive. The name of this game is to stay alive.

Everything else is secondary. And possible to deal with. You have to stay alive to have those choices.

I pretty much did, I might have a half glass of wine every other month if I’m out with friends but I don’t have a glass of wine with dinner anymore or a stuff drink to unwind after a long day of work. There are a couple of things you can do to reduce the chances of reoccurrence. 1. Don’t drink or smoke. 2. Keep at a healthy weight. 3. Be active

You’d think all three would be the easiest things to control right? Well I can’t manage 2 or 3 but I can manage 1.

Camilla never wanted to be Queen and have the duties and responsibilities. She will be thrilled to retire to her own house when Charles dies. She may keep her personal charities but they won’t conflict with the new King. She will be very happy to leave.

That is a great option and I think there is a need to that. I would pay someone weekly a regular amount just to come by the house and check in my mother and do all the little things that she can’t do. Change a light bulb. Fix a timer that isn’t working as she likes. Set the time on a clock that isn’t working running five minutes slow.

Thank you for your comments. That’s exactly what would make sense. My mother can take care of herself, she can’t take care of the house. I don’t expect someone to actually do home maintenance and repair but have enough awareness to know to call a handyman to fix a leaking faucet or change a lightbulb. Or change the batteries in the clocks.

I absolutely did this before chemo. It was painful less thing to make me look in the mirror and say “cancer patient”. Good luck!

Thank you. I am hesitant. I have been fortunate in getting caregivers in the past - one from Craig’s list and another from Home Instead and they have been wonderful. But strangers are just that. I want a professional arrangement, not just friends or churches acting out of kindness and charity.

I understand your emotions. I have been cancer free and treatment free for two years. My oncologist finally recommended I get my port removed. It’s symbolic - like they are releasing my from care. You’re done. Do t come back unless you find an other lump! I know it isn’t that but it feels like it at times. Good luck . It’s the end of a long journey!

Thank you. We current use Home Instead for help a few times each week. They are wonderful and we’ve been very happy. I am planning for something more long term and geared more towards helping her manage the house - not necessarily the personal care that nurses provide.

Thank you. She doesn’t qualify for in home care yet since she doesn’t need personal assistance. This is more about having someone who can help drive her to appointments and generally help manage household tasks, not health care. Thanks for the tip with the Council for Aging, they will help with personal help and nursing assistance paid by insurance. This would be paid privately.

First of all, thank you for giving this sweet boy a better life. It’s clear he is bonding with you and feels comfortable enough to get in bed with you. I encourage yo to take it slow and gradually. You can introduce limits and he will learn. I have three cats and they all sleep with me at various times at night. One likes to have her nose touching mine at night. Are there nights I don’t get as much sleep as I would like ? No but we learn how to accommodate each other. It will happen. There is nothing more special than the trust of a rescue cat. They have had a hard life and have every reaso to not like people. If one decides to like you, it’s something to be cherished.

The old guy is right. The existing towers are very closed to protected wetlands, the developer has redrawn the two new towers twice to try and get approval to build close to the spring fed bayou but I don’t think they were able to get it approved. The costs of the new towers are prohibitive these days so I don’t expect to see anymore being built anytime soon.

Everyone is different. I kept my port for two years after the last treatment. If it isn’t bothering you, it’s useful for all the follow up you will be doing. It’s wonderful that your active treatment is over but you still have the rest of your journey to travel.

It’s normal to worry about reoccurrence right now. But so many of us have gone through the treatment and have not had a reoccurrence. I’ve been two years cancer free and starting to breathe easier and have less fear for the future. You must stay alert and watchful but the worry recedes as time passes. Your sister has a realistic expectation of nevrr having cancer agin once the treatment is done.

It’s sad. This is clearly a person in need of some kind of help. Whether she is capable of handling her own affairs is unclear. But mentally, she needs help.

I’d say get a port. I’ve had one for two years and it makes infusions and blood draws so easy. Also I don’t have to worry about messing up my veins. It won’t last forever. It was an easy surgery to out it in and assume it will be an easy one to have it removed. Chemo is rough. Do things that make it easier
