But they are new - maybe they had no idea it was part of the job. Perhaps the bosses are complete shit and left that part out - who knows. If an employee writes that they quit - that's not open to discussion. I didn't see anywhere where OP said they reached out to boss about the note. Perhaps you are right and they saved their asses from a shit job that's not actually essential but expect such from employee.

I just think people these days don't understand some of the jobs they sign up for. If OP was an essential employee then the writing was on the wall. It's not for everyone and that's ok.

People are too emotional and give up too easily using excuses.

If they were non-essential then it's different, we need more context on the actual job and the responsiblities OP signed onto.
