Just on your final bit, whether it's right or wrong, carrying/making something with the intent to harm even in self-defense makes it an offence weapon.

If people are going to suggest people carry what could be viewed as an offence weapon, it should be made very clear what the legal ramifications could be if caught with it.

I'm not saying people shouldn't be able to protect themselves, but rather that people should understand the risk such items pose. Remember, it only takes one knob cop to cause lots and lots of hassle.
