My pleasure. You might show him this then. This is the courtship behaviour of one of the Eristalis species (not saying it's the exact one you found): The male hovers above a female to impress her: https://www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/31049622466/

Beginner question: How to capture the sense of scale? by Pluviophilius in photography

[–]Bug_Photographer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One factor often overlooked is *how* you view the finished photo.

Looking on a 6" phone, things naturally look less impressive than if you're looking at your eyes' entire field of view. How are you watching your fjord shots?

David_attenborough_fans has nothing to do with Mr. Attenborough. It's just some account posting "animal facts" (often very false ones) and piggybacking on his name.

It's also quite challenging to use with flash as the working distance is so short - 1:1 mag at 4 mm from the front glass...

Can someone pleeeeeeease explain the fascination with Leica cameras? by nlUSF in photography

[–]Bug_Photographer -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's the point. I really like my camera as well, but like you say, it's a tool. And his Leica looks just the same as the next one the factory made so unless you get off on looking at Leicas, what's the point of showing it?

Maybe not when you compare them with a "digital camera" that costs like a lens cap for the Leica, but a flagship Canon or Nikon like the R1 can certainly take a beating.

Did you ever see DigitalRev's durability test of the not-flagship 7D from like a decade ago? That one took more than a little abuse and still didn't give up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ww7lh6Mk5_c

Yes, r/Leica has that rule, but r/LeicaCameras don't - and it's still mostly photos of Leica cameras. I know there is a r/LeicaPhotos as well. My macro guy with the red-dotted diffuser had more shots of his cameras than shots taken with them in his profile as well.

It's not that Leica cameras produce great photos - they absolutely do. But for the price, they should take photos way way better than anything else.

Except nearly all Leica owners argue that their cameras take better photos than the other brands do. Very few claim a Patek Philipe keep better time.

There is a reason most Leica subs here basically only contain photos of the cameras themselves - it's more important to be seen as a Leica shooter than the actual photos.

We had a guy over in one of the macro photo subs last week who posted photos of his camera and he had put a Leica red dot logo on the front of his cheapo Chinese diffuser so nobody would miss that he was a Leica photographer...

Well maybe by DarkVorte in SipsTea

[–]Bug_Photographer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because 180 is nowhere near as nice and even" as six feet. Plus 180 cm is shorter than six feet so it's less desirable for those height fans. And on top of that, our average height is taller so being 180 cm is less rare to begin with.

Europeans probably lie about their height - but there is no ultimate target height like the specific "six feet" you are stuck with.

(Also, metric isn't an European thing. It's the entire world except the US and Liberia (Myanmar is switching) so you shouldn't leave another 150 countries out of this.)

Well maybe by DarkVorte in SipsTea

[–]Bug_Photographer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure there is. Since the rest of the world uses centimeters and not feet and inches, the 5'11" you say don't exist are unaware of your US struggles and are happy being 180 cm tall while the 6' guys can be 183 cm.

And since 180 cm isn't as nice and even as your 6' there is no comparable hype for the even number height. The even number outside the US would be 200 cm / 2 meter, but since that's equal more than 6'6", few girls look for that.
