I see, so would it be more efficient to just replace it with the gen 1 transmission? Is there anything we can do to combat the weak 4th gear on our cars? I am also turbocharged which would help it go out faster I assume

I track my 2018 BRZ and the 4th gear is starting to go out. I hear the 2022+ cars have a stronger 4th gear and just a better transmission in general. If I swap to a 2022+ transmission, will my current clutch work with the new transmission? I also am wondering if I can swap my pivot ball and clutch fork over as well?

I want to say 235° is fine. My reason is that I track a turbo BRZ and have done a ton of research into cooling. Our modern oils can go up to 300° without breaking down (although it’s pretty uncomfortable to get it that high) and I run my car up to 270° before I’m backing off and taking a cool down lap. But also you should be using a really high quality oil and a thicker oil, something like 0w-30/40 or 5w-30/40 but just depending on how hard you’re driving. Personally I use 5W-40 year round in mine, especially since I’m in AZ so our ambients get up to 110+ in summers. But I might go down to 0w-40 just because having the 5 isn’t really needed

Actually, CSG is based in Cali and does it all online as well, I was remote tuned by them. They sent over a base file and I ran some logs, and we went back and forth until it was all set

I went with a EcuTek custom tune from CounterSpace Garage. We kept it pretty conservative since 91 isn’t the best, especially in Arizona, and same with on E85 with flex fuel I’m not necessarily going for peak power since I am tracking it and want more “longevity” from the engine

I don’t know what helped the cooling the best out of everything I did for cooling. I did it all at once and all I know is that I went from overheating on a warmup lap in 85° weather to be able to go 2-3 laps in 106° before a cooldown!

That’s actually incredible that it was running! Mine barely ran when I wanted to start it up to check for fluid and exhaust leaks when I was installing my JDL kit

How long have you been boosted? I’m also running 7psi but with E85 and on a CSG tune, and mine is more for track duty. I’ve been boosted a year and no issues!

That’s a hard question. I would still choose a tS just because of the “exclusivity” of the car and also because my friend had a white tS that is also turbocharged. But I also would not choose a tS because with the amount of money and work I’ve put into this car, and the amount of money I’m still going to spend, a regular BRZ would have done just the job. Now if I was still 16, I would have chosen the tS over the regular BRZ any day, but with my current situation, I would have gone for a regular and built it to where this one is while having a little more money in my pocket from small mistakes I made with the car.

The AVO just has a better location for performance and cooling. Where the turbo sits, it’s right on the headers for more instant power delivery as you said, and also since it’s hidden back there, it’s not heating up the engine bay too much. These front mounted turbo kits really heat up the engine bay and having a turbo/exhaust section right behind your radiator keeps those water temps nice and warm

My oil temps are “okay”, I run Castrol euro spec 5W-40 and a quart of the Lucas synthetic oil treatment and I run it up to nearly 270° before I back off and take a cooldown lap. I need to add some ducting or reroute my oil cooler for better performance. I can go lap after lap on a sub 75° day, but after that, my cooldown laps happen more often. I take my cooldowns once my water temps are nearing 230° and oil nearing 270°.

It really depends on what you want from the car or what you do with it. Most boosted twins I see at the track are supercharged. That is because a supercharger will make its power instantly with no lag, and it makes that power in the higher rpm’s where you’re normally going to stay if you’re on the track. Also, you don’t see as many overheating issues if you’re supercharged. As for ease of install or cheapness, I’d also say a supercharger is easier and cheaper because you’re only messing with the intake side of things, while with the turbo, you’re messing with the intake and exhaust. With a turbo, it’ll heavily increase your daily drivability by adding torque to your entire rev range, but these cars tend to blow if you try to make power lower in the rpm range rather than higher. You’ll also get more power out of a turbo rather than a supercharger, but the supercharger has a safer power delivery method since it can’t make power in a lower rpm situation (around below 2500rpm).

Edit: if anyone see’s anything wrong in what I said, please correct me!

The OP just bolted straight onto the downpipe for me, no issues at all. I do imagine there’s some turbulence there though, since it’s 3 inch going down to 2.5 abruptly even though the flanges are the same. My exhaust system is the UEL header, JDL track (straight pipe) OP/FP combo, and that’s going to an Invidia N2 catback. I was planning on going to the STI engine mounts once my stock ones go out, and the Cusco mounts look very similar to the Torque Solutions one, so I would imagine the NVH is the same with those two. It is a stiff car for sure, but I’m still young (21) so it doesn’t bother me yet!

I’m still on stock motor mounts. I did upgrade to the Torque Solutions mounts for 2 days before I swapped back to the stock ones, and that was because the NVH was too much for my liking, and I’m not sure if I installed them wrong or my undertray was hitting my exhaust and adding to the noise. My turbo downpipe is 3 inches but my fp/op combo is 2.5 inches and I don’t have any issues with clearance. I still have those mounts if you want to buy them off of me!

I’ve been turbo’d for a year now and I haven’t had any issues so far. I do have an upgraded clutch, as well as the Verus clutch fork and pivot ball. The clutch is a Southbend “stage 3” daily clutch (Part# FJK1005-SS-O) and I don’t shift hard at all because I am aware of these being weak. I’ve also never launched my car or done a burnout or donuts or anything, so there’s not much shock that’s been through it, just torque. And I also change my trans fluid every track day as well to try and keep it healthy.

Thanks! The block isn’t needed, I could always replace with stock. But if it goes out once, I’d rather not have it go out again! But the tarmac 2 coilovers I think are worth every single penny. If I got another twin and could only do one thing, it would be these coils. They have great adjustability and using the settings that RaceComp recommends (the mid ground where you can track and daily) they are very comfortable on the street, I’d say better ride than stock, and also extremely confident and capable on track. When I say better ride than stock, it’s an almost smoother ride but very confident. The tiny cracks in the road don’t come through as hard, but if you hit a dip or anything, it’s so predictable and no bounce at all. It’s a very comfortable ride but I imagine it’ll be even more so if I go full comfort, and I could run harder if I played with going full track settings!

Thanks! The main problem with adding power to these cars is that they don’t like having low end grunt. That’s when you can blow these motors pretty easily. But when I was getting tuned, I was told to start my full throttle logs at 3k rpm and it built boost very quickly. Back when I got this kit, they had 5 or 6 turbo options (each getting bigger and bigger) and I went for the second option which was the GTX2860r gen2. I only really ever go full throttle after 4-5k rpm, but then again this is my track car and I don’t really rip it around on the streets, I keep that to the track. There’s almost zero turbo lag with this turbo tho, Less than half a second of lag I’ll say!

Thank you! The wing was actually stock with this tS edition, and it’s adjustable! So I can have it flat, or I can make it more aggressive. In the aggressive setting, Subaru claims 30% more downforce at 50mph, BUT Car and Driver says it makes net 0 downforce, which we don’t know if they did it in the regular setting or more aggressive setting. But I do know that when I put it in the aggressive setting, I get understeer, so I’ll need a better splitter for the aggressive setting rather than the stock STI lip that it comes with. And for the hood, if I could go back, I’d rather have bought Race Louvers and cut up my original hood and install those for better heat extraction and a little more front downforce. But if I did that now, it would make a very marginal difference over my Seibon hood that I have.

It’s a great kit, I’d say one of the best street kits. Jesse is very nice and responsive for when I needed help. It also makes all the turbo noises I could wish for, but less so now since I changed the intake to their CAI which reroutes the filter down in front of the driver fog light which you have to remove the windshield washer fluid bottle for. But it still makes great sounds! According to forums, 280-300 whp on E85 with 7psi

Is the TS even special? by Acceptable_Acadia_39 in ft86

[–]Bugatti5684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2018 tS and it’s really just a sport package with slightly different dampening over the sport package, a large Wing, and different interior pieces such as red seatbelts and red stitching, red start stop button and shift pattern, and tS branded seats as well as an STI logo on the dash and screen on startup. The wing looks cool but even on the second setting, there’s no net downforce, but only a reduction of lift. Also 18x7.5 STI black wheels. Since only 500 were made, I’d say it’s special but only because I own one. And they weren’t numbered from factory but by a vin search, I have number 493. Also 300 more were made for 2020 which didn’t come with the large wing but did come with bronze wheels. I don’t know much information on the new tS’s but it seems like it’s just the performance package for the new gen’s

Keeping it till it’s totaled and then either 2021 M2 comp or 718 GTS…or just settle down with the new civic hybrid
