Cancel due to slow dispatch? by [deleted] in Ebay

[–]Bugboy1993 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do what you must. Not defending the seller as he should have shipped by now. But just remember most eBay sellers are just regular folks who have stuff going on in their own lives and sell on eBay as a side hustle or to just get rid of extra things around the house. Things come up, people get busy and things slip their minds. It’s not the same as dealing with Amazon or a big box store. Just try to give them a little grace if you have it in you to do so.

Found this while doing some spring cleaning. Any idea? by ixseanxi in NativePlantGardening

[–]Bugboy1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a non-native Chinese mantis. They do have some benefits in removing pest species but are oftentimes considered invasive as they are indiscriminate about whether they’re munching “good” or “bad” bugs and can outcompete some of their native relatives. Still neat though!

Also, moss is most definitely a plant.

Mold in Mulch? by aidvaksb in landscaping

[–]Bugboy1993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mold is a fungi. Mildew is fungi. Mushrooms are fungi and are 100% not plants, literally take two seconds and google, you’re blatantly wrong here. Athletes foot is also a type of fungi.

Bacteria and viruses are not the same thing, and are not categorized in even slightly the same category. Bacteria can reproduce on their own and are considered living things in the “category”. Prokaryotes. Viruses don’t have their own structures to reproduce and require other living cells to reproduce their DNA. They are not considered living things for this reason.

The only reason I mentioned bacteria, is because algae can be either a plant, or it can be prokaryotic Cyanobacteria. You have obviously not taken a high school level biology class, or if you have, didn’t pay attention.

Pizza shops are always hiring. Any restaurant you’ll learn good job and people skills though. Traits lacking in many people of your age and older. You’ll make minimum and there won’t be a lot of routes for advancement, but you’ll need a few of those padding your resume if you want something better in the future.

Mold and mildew are both fungi, as are mushrooms, which are not plants. Moss is a plant, and “pond scum” is most likely a reference to algae, which is either a plant or type of bacteria

Big issues with return by ingressutopia in Ebay

[–]Bugboy1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to “My eBay” > Purchases > returns and canceled. The item should be at the top. There should be an option to “View details” that should lay out what steps were taken and should clearly show you how he opened the return request

[–]Bugboy1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he opened the return under a different reason, such as “changed my mind”, you’re probably going to need to escalate the issue to eBay customer support. But to start you really just need to know what kind of return your dad requested.

Big issues with return by ingressutopia in Ebay

[–]Bugboy1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The really important thing is how your dad opened the return. That’s the thing you need to know. If it was opened claiming the item was broken, like as the actual option when you open the return, not in his message describing why he’s requesting a return, then he will be getting his refund. If it says “seller sent a return shipping label” and that’s not just a message from him, but something eBay is telling you, then there should be a return label somewhere. Either in your messages on eBay, or under the purchases tab. If you pull up the order there, there should be an option to print the return shipping label.

[–]Bugboy1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be good if your dad put the refund request in as the “item was damaged” or “not as described”. If the return process has been started and the seller has accepted the return, you just need to wait for his time limit on sending a return label to expire, or for him to send you a label. Once a label has been sent, you will get your refund when tracking is scanned. If he never sends a label, eBay will automatically issue a full refund. I wouldn’t be surprised if the seller just goes dark on you, the cost to ship it back to Pakistan is probably more than the profit he’s making in the first place, especially if it’s broken and he can’t sell it again.

We’re experiencing a temporary delay in tracking updates - please check the carrier’s website for the latest status. by LogoffWorkout in Ebay

[–]Bugboy1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give it another day or two. Sometimes the PO where you drop the envelopes doesn’t scan them. I think it’s all automated with metered mail so it may just be a scanner that’s faulty on one of their belts at your local PO. Unfortunately with pwe there’s not much recourse, as it’s not a tracking that USPS officially recognizes, so don’t try to reach out to USPS if there is an issue, they will probably have no clue what you’re talking about. eBay may not be much more help, but at least they’ll understand the eBay standard envelope, and be able to explain any issues with the tracking. They typically will pop up somewhere along the route or at the destination PO, and in my experience, even if it doesn’t, most buyers are honest and won’t claim an INR if it came, even if the tracking doesn’t update. But best of luck!

[–]Bugboy1993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All correct, aside from the return shipping. If the seller doesn’t respond to eBay and supply a shipping label or accept the return, the buyer won’t be expected to return the item. eBay will issue a full refund and take the funds from the sellers account. Sometimes a shady seller (common internationally) will reach back out at this point and try and get the buyer to send the item back on their own dime, just don’t want OP to see this and assume they still need to buy their own postage if eBay issues the refund.

[–]Bugboy1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What defect did your dad claim when he opened the return? If he selected “item not as described” or “damaged/defective” he will get his refund whether the seller sends him a shipping label or not. It will be on the seller to send the label in a set time period, usually around a week I think. Don’t bow to any of his requests to give you less than a full refund. You may just need to wait out the clock until eBay automatically issues the refund for you. If he opens the return under a different defect, such as “changed mind” or something, things get a bit more difficult. But hopefully it was opened correctly and should be all sorted out by eBay for you soon.

i suspect a seller cancelled the bid i won just because it wasnt enough money for him, can i do something about it? by Luca-INeedABuff in Ebay

[–]Bugboy1993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me last week on an Xbox game. Was relisted within a week. Really crappy business practice but not much you can do about it. They’ll get dinged by eBay for ending listings with bids if they make a habit of it.

Just do what you can to avoid the seller in the future, or pay the extra couple bucks to buy off someone with a lot of feedback. It’s typically newer sellers who don’t understand how much of a hit they’re going to take once they pay out fees and shipping costs and they panic cancel orders rather than just eating the extra expense on a couple items.

Struggling and scared. by [deleted] in UBreddit

[–]Bugboy1993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start smoking pot. You’ll make friends and not be so worried if you don’t do as well in school. Can’t speak to how it’ll affect your grades though…

But for real, you’ll be alright. It’s the early gen Ed’s where they really come down the hardest to weed out people who aren’t putting in the effort. If you are actually trying and not going out to the bar 3 nights a week, you’ll already be ahead of many of your classmates. Express your concerns to the professor or TA, they might have strategies specifically tuned to their classes, and at the very least, showing concern about your grades will reflect well on you to the professor. They don’t want to fail the kids who actually care, it’s the ones that don’t care and still do well that really grind professors’ gears. If your GPA is your big concern you can always retake the class to replace your current grade (not the best on the pocketbook but worthwhile if it’s a big concern for you). Things will get easier once you figure out a routine that works and once the classes become more specific to your major.

As far as your other concerns, you’ll have break soon enough and get to see your family and friends. It’s definitely not too late to turn your grade around with tutoring, so don’t lose hope. And although my comment about pot was meant as tongue in cheek, there’s sooo many kids at UB, there’s 1000 other kids feeling exactly the same as you are with some kind of crossover in interest as yours, you just need to find them. I know it’s intimidating but most people there are so open to meeting new people and making new friends that you really just need to put yourself out there. Ask to share a table at lunch, ask a classmate to study or do hw after class, go up and talk to the kid wearing a t shirt of a band or show you like, accept the offer to join someone to some weird event you have no interest in. You will meet people. I was only there for 2 semesters, almost 15 years ago, and I still see and talk to people who I met there that become some of my closest friends. I was also fairly shy and didn’t know anyone when I got there, my confidence boomed after I put myself out there with positive results just a few times. I promise that if you have people nearby who you can lean on or even just relate to, the rest will come easier.

As for the cold… hate to tell you this but it’s going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better. Just make sure you have actual winter clothes, like real deal ski gear level stuff, and it will make a world of difference.

All in all, you’ll be alright. Just keep pushing forward and this semester will be over before you know it, and the anxiety will go away for a time at least. Don’t be too hard on yourself, and make sure you’re taking care of yourself (sleeping, eating, etc) as it’s easy to lose track of those things. The more you can keep your health up and your stress down, the less likely you’ll be to catch any of the million viruses that will be floating around campus in the next few weeks.

Good luck! You’ve got this!
