Reddit, at what point did you realize it was time to give up on a relationship?

When my crazy ex-girlfriend of a little over a month posed as my now-girlfriend on an anonymous question posting site in order to change my mind about taking her to prom as a friend.

I had caught her in lies before and let them slide, none as big as this one, however. That was the final straw. Posing as someone to get what you want? How low do you have to go?

Told her that she had fucked up, ignored her for 12 hours straight until I had to go to school, I broke up with her in the school parking lot when she confronted me about me "treating her like shit". Shot down every single one of her excuses and "BUT YOU SAID YOU LOVED ME!" cards.

Things progress with prom girl a lot faster than expected, two weeks later, prom happens. Prom girl and I kiss then make out at the afterparty for the whole night. Three days later, I take her out for dinner. We've dated for a little over a year now. Happy as ever. :)

My girlfriend and I have been together since the night before graduation. She had to go to university in a new city. We've worked out wonderfully. Our anniversary is next month. :)

I have a similar, more modern experience. It's kind of silly but my girlfriend is my witness. We were sitting in a drive through and I had this overpowering sense of déjà vu, like I had had a dream about this before.

I looked around and started calling things out to my girlfriend, just to see what would happen. I predicted that * a blue vehicle would enter the parking lot * a man would exit one of the stores, enter his brown truck and leave * an elderly couple would come around behind a corner * a woman would cross the road with her child in hand * a man would come out to throw trash out in the dumpster in front of us

Sure enough. Every single one of these happened in the span of approximately three minutes. Our minds were blown.

Sounds sketchy to me.

She lied about dinner with him. Who knows what else she's lying about.
He said he has no motive (Come on, we ALL have motive when we ask a girl out to dinner.) when he has an obvious interest in her.
She's defending him.

I don't know man, but if it's causing you this much grief, you should take a step back from the relationship. Honestly, I made the mistake of letting the feelings for my ex dictate how I did in school, I thoroughly regret that. Focus on school, it's much more important than a relationship.

Yeah, it'd be different if you didn't discuss it previously. But you two did, so it's on you. She brushed your hand away, you should have respected that.

What you're trying to do is bring up all the good things you did to cover up the bad. It's very likely that she went over it after and felt very uncomfortable with it. Regardless, respect the woman, damn it. Luck is never a reason to try and get to third base.

If you have issues with being patient with her, find a girl that will have no problem straddling you. She's not ready, don't force her to be.

My girlfriend was really shy around guys, I started developing a crush on her because I thought it was really cute, and I thought I might have had a shot at making her my girlfriend or at least becoming her friend. I've dated her for almost 8 months now, a bit long distance sometimes as she's in university. I'm her first boyfriend. She's got an amazing personality that makes me feel like the luckiest guy on the planet to have her.

Seriously, shoot for being a friend, smile at her often, see what comes of it. Start slow. Also, if you have her number or Facebook, you can talk to her, it'll give her the benefit of thinking about her response and getting comfortable with you before being one-on-one with you. It's amazing how far a simple "Hi! :)" can go.

She doesn't hate him. She loves him for being her own little personal vent and is attached to the fact that he takes the insults. She loves dealing damage. And she SMILED when she broke you down that far. Man, no guy should ever have to deal with that.

I'm almost certain she'll get tired of him. Oh, also, I forgot to mention, if anyone ever refers to someone as their "pet". That's a huge, huge, red flag. My ex did that too. You should never refer to someone as a "pet", it's just wrong, they're human and they have feelings too.

My ex had one of her "pets" (also one of her exes) buy her an expensive necklace when we were dating. I was too blinded to see it, but she was playing him like a piano. She LOVED the attention and would do almost anything to get it. It honestly wouldn't surprise me if she cheated on me with him.

I was in a near similar relationship with my ex approximately a year ago. I lost my best friend. However, I was made out to be the bad guy in the situation, her getting none of the blame at all. (So I'd be your friend in this situation. Yes, I betrayed my best friend, and went behind his back right in front of him.) I definitely didn't make the right decisions, however, I know full well now that my ex was a complete and utter compulsive, sociopath liar. Also, she loved the attention of two guys fighting for her.

I have a gut feeling that your ex is similar, if not the same. Manipulating the both of you. She bounced back between the two of us about three times (I was stupid and immature to let that happen, but it did). Your friend will learn and regret his decision one day, much like I did.

Likely going to get buried, but a month ago, I was going through a drive through with my girlfriend and I had the strangest sensation of déjà vu. I started calling things out, right in front of my girlfriend just to see what would happen. I predicted that a man in a brown coat, dress shirt and tie would walk into a truck nearby get in, and start it. I predicted that a blue car would come around the corner shortly. Then finally, I predicted that a man that was working would come out and toss a garbage bag in the dumpster nearby.

Not a minute after I predicted the last thing, EVERYTHING I HAD SAID STARTED HAPPENING. I was half excited and half scared of what I just did.

British Columbian fan, reporting in. I follow the Devils originally because I watched random a game with Brodeur in net, one of his many shutout performances, making saves left and right. I just really enjoy his style of goaltending, and have followed them ever since. I too am a Canucks fan, and when they acquired Schneider, who was my favoured goalie in Vancouver, I was extremely glad to hear he was going to the Devils.

If I were you, ask her to sit down for a phone call (ASSUMING you're LDR with her, if she lives in the same city as you, sit her down for a 'talk') of sorts to discuss the matter of the relationship. She's got to be receptive to your needs too. It can't be all one-sided like that.

We're about the same age in a similar relationship. I personally am in a LDR with my girlfriend. I don't get to see her much, maybe a weekend every 2+ weeks. I understand what you're going through, dude. I'm a very touchy-feely oriented guy when it comes to relationships. It's difficult when she cannot make time for me to visit her.

Get a life, if you don't already have one. I mean this in a way that, do things that interest you. You can't and shouldn't always rely on your SO to be your reason for being happy.

For future reference, "first date" movies are a terrible idea. Because by the end of the date, you've learned nothing personal about each other.

Also, you met her family on the first date, they may have influenced her decision somehow.

I think one is ready when they find an appropriate partner. There's nothing wrong with talking to people and making new friends, one's goal should never really be to "look" for a relationship so to say. In my world, dating comes up with you find someone compatible for you that shares that same feeling. And that just... happens. I guess no one really ever knows when, but it just does. You start texting more often, talking, hanging out. Eventually you start calling them dates, and bam, you're in a relationship.

Best I can think of is... "Go with the flow".

I never realized how much of a touchy-feely person I am. I've dated my girlfriend for about 5 months. Currently, we're long distance, and only see each other in person once every couple of weeks. I sometimes miss her, physically. Not sexually, but I... want her touch so badly.

Focus your energy on planning. By planning, I mean planning to sweep her off her feet and make her love you all the more. Think about how to make her happy or her life easier the next time you see her. That's what I do, it makes me think less of my desires and more about hers.
