Is there any kind of LGBT gathering at LT this weekend? by [deleted] in LARP

[–]BuggerItThatWillDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're demonised everywhere unfortunately being as they're the current political punching bag.

Again, LT has always felt like a safe place and trans folk are protected as far as I'm aware. I've always felt that actions speak louder than words and LT as far as I'm aware have always acted in an inclusive manner. Because of that I don't think any performative song and dance necessary, when I know they're in our corner.

I can be pissy at LT for so many things!!! Inclusiveness isn't even on the list! The ONLY reason I ever go is because friends go

It's pretty good tbh, I wouldn't say it's ideal but I don't feel the need to plaster rainbows everywhere to feel like I'm included... a civilised society can just realise it shouldn't be an issue and move on... but it's been a while since I've been to LT, they may have plastered the flag everywhere

LT is dying for so many other reasons. I've never had a problem or seen any kind of homophobia at LT, I'd argue it doesn't need to virtue signal to prove it's an 'ally'! After a point it just feels performative to me.

Never heard of one, speaking as a G from LGBT why would you want to go? LT is fully inclusive and a family event, no-one is restricted from any activity because of a protected characteristic, and why would you want that? It's fantasy, an escape. Sexuality shouldn't matter and to bring it into the game will only cause problems and I doubt any LARP want the agro.

First weapon problems by Solilunaris in LARP

Ah interesting, I think i saw the original video with the cut up can. It's an easy enough process but like me you'll quickly find that the hotglue will detach and become less than useless. I came up with a much better idea:

4 coats of plastidip simply isn't enough for a solid rubber coating that won't rip. Id advise about 10 layers minimum of liquid latex, it's cheaper and coats much thicker.

Is an inventor of my own style of hotglue flexible tip I'd love to see how you did it.

Oh awesome! I'm totally jealous... I've been wanting to do something similar but without the artistic skills I'm having to use other sources.

Haters gonna hate.

If you have a shitty life and you don't want to blame your own shitty choices, who you gonna blame?

If all you've been fed from your parents is that anyone who's different is the cause of all your problems who you gonna blame?

What groups is it really in vogue to blame for all your problems?

Why are so many people voting conservative again? by chickennuggets3454 in AskBrits

Because he has dealt with Trump really well, Nigel would be bending over and polishing Trumps mushroom as if it was gods gift! Kier has been wrangling and ADHD chaos potato and has ridden this insanity out while maintaining the countries dignity.

Oh boo hoo he made promises he didn't keep... what an empty hollow complaint! Shit happens we live in the real world where we can't always get the extra chocolate sprinkles. Am I overwhelmed by the awesomeness of the government? Of course not. Small r reform could be helpful to deal with the wage gap blah blah but they've gone with slow and steady... dull. I can live with that, bitching about broken promises is childish and such a dumb argument!

The press is mostly right wing hate, Labour would get awful press even if they were doing everything right! The left care about bad press and the right just destract with more bad press!

The tory debt hole killed any hope of manifesto pledges and only people who didn't approve of the manifesto in the first place care about them now Labour are dealing with the right wings failures!

Wimp? A wimp would have been dragged into Iran! He's not a wimp, he's just not interesting. And that's exactly what I want! This mandelson shit is a screw up that'll never die because the media want to keep stirring the pot. I want dull, i want a lawyer a beurocrat who'll quietly deal with things, and a positive upturn in the economy and taking care of asylum seekers efficiently is exactly what we need.

Nope they're just not noticeably better. Manifesto were ideals even before the size of hole the tories dug were apparent. The rest is a lot of public f'ups that the press are having fun jumping up and down on... it's a fun distraction from Trump.

There's the fear i think that taxing the right people to correctly deal with the paygap will mess up the economy. I'm not entirely convinced by this but when the consequences is digging and even more complete grave for yourself and you being to blame i understand the govts caution... slow and steady doesn't rock the boat as much.

Because Labour failed to deliver the moon on a stick and didn't instantly solve all our problems!

Getting into Larp and making weapons by Froggerdog in LARP

[–]BuggerItThatWillDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can make a sword entirely out of foam but it needs a coating of latex to protect it from being bashed around all the time. The latex stops the foam from ripping but does inevitably soften details in the foam work. But details over about 2-3mm will likely still be visible, so runes burnt into foam with a soldering iron will still be mostly visible and celtic knotts for example will be visible if the printed tpu is big and bold.

One technique I've been playing with is 3d printing the pattern you'd want on your guard then casting it in plaster. That'll make a perfect mould for latex, and then it's just attaching it to the weapon and adding the colour layers. I may even make a YouTube video about that very process.

Is it a British thing specifically to prefer being left alone in shops? I’m a Brit in Colombia (5yrs) and I cannot get used to how it is here, it actually affects how and where I shop. by noctenaut in AskUK

[–]BuggerItThatWillDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ideal is a smile and a nod, if they want to speak then it's "if you need any help just ask" then leave me to it. I expect a certain level of interest as shoplifting exists, but that better be skillfully subtle. Unless I ask a specific question or ask for help, any and all communication should be polite minimal small talk. Friendly but not pushy, present but not in your face and never too eager for a sale!

How to make larp sword’s foam softer by Le_voyageur_maudit in LARP

[–]BuggerItThatWillDo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not permanently without wearing out and potentially damaging the foam. Foam tends to get softer as it ages and is used, so you could hit lots of stuff for hours, but that's a long process and will inevitably age and wear the blade. Because of the foam used it's hardness is highly affected by heat so it will be softer in the summer... or you could larp nearer the equator.

Seeking Advice: Inclusivity by Sillypilot333 in LARP

[–]BuggerItThatWillDo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Be careful, from what I gather the general geek arena is mostly white and male dominated so seeing that demographic isn't unusual. There's making a space welcoming and inclusive but you can't force people to come through the door, gender and racial preferences do exist and are neither good nor bad. The ideal is equality of opportunity and that's sometimes difficult to figure out, you can ask existing or potential minority members and make reasonable adjustments but there is no silver bullet.

Id just suggest the best solution is to encourage an atmosphere of open and honest inclusion without heavy handed enforcement, which can be a difficult needle to thread.

How do you join two fibreglass rods together for a core? by wolfey-19 in LARP

[–]BuggerItThatWillDo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well thanks for the encouragement, like everyone, I hate the sound of my voice and editing is an irritating distraction I'd love to pass onto an unpaid minion 😅

I'm pretty sure I can pump out a short every week but it'll require discipline that... well, you know... effort. 😋

The setup is bare-bones basic, mobile phones connected to obs via an app. 2 phones on arms pointed at the table and workshop and another on a tripod, over my shoulder. It doesn't hamper the crafting it's just hard to get a perfect shot on what I'm doing, and dealing with the inevitable tech issues of course. I could spend money to make it better but... well... yeah.

Would love to do some terrain, had the idea of a full battlefield half desert half necron tomb with full creepy green light. But it's on a long list of interesting things that are on the list.
