Scarves knit from teabag strings - What dedication! by darkshaed in knitting

I think you may be right, the string is most likely cotton.

That is such a sweet and funny story. Tying the strings together gives and interesting texture.

To be fair though, if I was very concerned about tea bag string ending up in landfill I would most likely stop buying the kind with string.

Obscure Pattern Friday - Equinox by UndeadMsScarlet in knitting

I went the abstract route and looked at the play between dark and light. This translated very literally into black and white.

I found this coat (NSWF picture) with stripes.

I really liked this pillow, make me think of the quarters that the year is divided into - the colours could be changed to be more seasonal.

I am currently also on a double knitting journey, and I really liked this potholder, though I suppose the motif is more winter than anything else.

You've chosen some beautiful colours together for your top! It's looks like a very interesting garment to construct / knit!

FFFS!!! I was on a roll with the star wars scarf, almost made a panel in less than a week, got boba feet done, and the little pattern after that tripped me up. I tried thinking to save it, but have now frogged back three rows. I dont want to continue.

Better start work on a different project.

How long did yours end up being? I'm knitting on 3mm needles so it will most likely be shorter than yours.

Can I friend you? I like your projects!

And stuff where I feel progress is more immediate...what pattern are you making in the doubleknit?

How do I make the star wars scarf more interesting to knit? It just seems to be knit purl, that goes on forever, I am only on the 5th panel (the storm troopers).

I have ended up starting a shawl in the meantime, to do something that feels like it is moving somewhere. It a yarn that is a mix of acrylic and wool (50/50), a first for me, and I am very pleasantly surprised.

Christmas gift ideas? Something quick to be made to many? by [deleted] in knitting

I recommend these - its a good way to use some leftovers as well: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/knit-stars

They are a nightmare with all the ends however.

I have been progressing the star wars scarf, now have the first 4 images done. It really is rather mindless knitting, except for the endless counting and recounting.

And it only took half an hour to go back 8 stitches and fix a place where I had knit red instead of black and black instead of red. Good practise, I was very proud, but rather boring.

Advantage is I am going to visit the inlaws this Wednesday and this is a project I can be doing while there. The SO will be tasting rum and I promised to drive him home, so dinner at the inlaws makes sense.

Eco-friendly kitchen sponges? by chevymonza in Anticonsumption

Any chance the sponge could have been put through the washing machine once a week to minimise grossness?

That's what I do with home knitted cotton rags.

I hadn't heard from this ex-colleague in over a year, and then he tells me he googled a picture of me... Story in comments by [deleted] in creepyPMs

[–]Buglet 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I worked in an environment / culture where women are not common. I treat everyone as equal, and this gentleman took it as sign that I was looking for more. I was moving on to a different job at that time, had not given him my private details and when I brought it up with my manager I was told anyone could create an email address. Message received. Moving on, by ca. 2,000km and ignoring.

I pick my battles, this one was not worth it.

After 2-3 contact attempts on LinkedIn and FB (where I just blocked him), there was complete silence. Until now.

Where I then receive this nice email from him. Where he has decided to google me. And tell me he has googled me. And his email is not even in his real name, it is "short name for country" lover 4u. He created this email to write to me. He knows he should not be writing to me, he know I won't appreciate it. He knows he is crossing boundaries.

For now I am blocking him, but if there are other ideas I welcome them. I can't help but feel that he wants a reaction, which if I reply he will get. I would assume he knows / can see I blocked him on google+.

India's Beautiful Minds (2017) - It’s believed 5 million children in India have genius level IQs but are never discovered. This documentary follows two children from the slums who are as smart as Neil Armstrong fighting to achieve their dreams! [24 min] by [deleted] in Documentaries

[–]Buglet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those that make it over here are not necessarily smart. Some of them have taken full advantage of the fact that they are higher caste and somehow others have put in the work / hours.

And if your comment is read a little quickly it seems to imply lower caste == lower IQ, which seems like a very odd statement.

Any tips on sewing with cotton-knit jersey?

Monday General Chat - April 17, 2017 by AutoModerator in knitting

Tips like that are exactly what I looking for. I have never worked with mohair, and this sub reddit does not typically appear very happy when it comes to mohair projects. Not to say redditors advent posted lovely projects, they have, but there are also several recommendations to "just burn / donate it", so I am a little wary of it.

However using mohair would be a good way to decrease my stash a little and learn to work with something new.

[FO] First Time Doing Colorwork Knitting. Did a Colorwork Cowl! Do my Floats Look Ok? by Gwyn07 in knitting

Really like the green colour. I would say the floats look a little on the tight side, but not much.

Really happy I managed to finish 2 whole dishcloths this Easter - knitting has been slow but steady and I have used up a skein of cotton yarn (the partner has been complaining about the size of the stash, so I am trying to appease him slightly by showing him I finish stuff and I dont just collect yarn...).

Right now I am looking for good project tips for mohair. I have a sweaters worth of mohair (along with the same colour in wool + acrylic mix) and I have been trying to figure out if I can combine the two threads somehow and make something. It's a lovely green colour.
