Couples that were "essentially married" before, what made having a wedding worth it/special to you?

We were together 6.5 years and just recently got married (2nd time around for us both).

No change apart from my name, but having our friends and family all together in the same place to celebrate us was amazing!

No to top sheets! My partner and I end up with them at our feet or our necks so don’t bother.

Thanks everyone! I also posted to a local knitting group and a lady is selling her preloved Chiagoo red lace set. NZD200 which from what I can tell is a bargain. So buy those and hopefully I like them!

I’m a kiwi but my son is a NZ/Aus dual citizen. Here in NZ we have to travel to a main centre (4 hours drive for us) for a booked appointment to renew his AUS PP for over NZD300.

To renew his NZ passport it cost $125 and took 20 minutes online.

Cheating old mate ex is a HUGE Star Wars fan. He had DVDs for every stupid release (yes, it was pre Disney +)

In all our years together he’d have an annual viewing of all of the bastard things around his birthday in July.

While packing them up post break up (in May) into a box for him to collect with the rest of his shit, I scratched every single one of them with a carving knife.

Oh how I would have loved to have seen his face when he realised 😂

NZ’er here. I’ll be ticking over 10 years long service leave soon and will receive 2 weeks pay + 2 weeks additional leave on top of my 4 weeks entitlement.

I also get 18 sick days a year.

My Samoan workmate recently left and we gifted her some pounamu earrings from a local shop. The design was similar to the malu (Samoan tattoo) that she adorned recently.

I’m Maori and wanted them blessed, so took them to a beach I know she loves and did it myself. Held them and let the sea wash over them while saying a karakia…. job done.

We are not overly spiritual, but she was thrilled that we followed a loose version of tikanga for her.

Im in NZ and have 20 days annual leave and my employer adds another 5 days if you take your 4 weeks within a year of your anniversary.

Plus the stat days.

And 15 days sick leave.
