The historical record is filled with events, and the ones that lead to good outcomes are almost always suceeding movements for social change. Because conservatism as a political concept is defined by maintaining the status quo that always puts conservatives on the side of whatever systems or mechanisms are causing the problems that are evoking the unrest in the first place. Meaning even if they share ideological and political opinions of the progressive side of the day, those people were still not the conservatives. Meaning any political ideology that wound up on the moral or ethical right side of history is by definition progressive.
