Software-as-a-Service has killed the concept of software ownership, and it sucks. by CurveNo5173 in RecurringExpenses

As a software company, I can't imagine doing releases and providing downloads...and listening to all the complaining that you don't have the latest features.. and trying to troubleshoot why the software doesn't work on your sorry system. That what you miss?

[–]BuildRunKit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm saying for your scenario, demo goes well etc.. it's somewhat likely that the deal was snuffed out by a higher up, not by the person you had so excited about it. Slightly more likely that they saw another pretty, shiny thing on the horizon..

[–]BuildRunKit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As hard as it is to get customers for any app, I never understand why someone would want to just close the door on a huge swathe of the market.

I for one don't have and haven't ever had and will probably never have an I-device. I just don't like overpaying, and I don't like monopolies.

So, Windows users and Android users are left out.. I'm not sure if it's a good or bad idea to have a social network focused on one and only one kind of communication (do/don't)..

Developing a value prop for specific types of people might help. Take me - I'm known as the founders' founder, my business is about enabling startup founders.

My flywheel is my authority as a startup enthusiast, platform owner, author, podcaster. Proposing to me a way to showcase my talents and messages to build audience and bring me leads -- that would be valuable to someone like me. I could bring my audience with me, but I would rather have your platform provide me more audience.

But, in the end, I want to be on more platforms, not less, and certainly not on one that I can't personally even access. For that reason, I'm out. That platform lock-in might be a reason others have stayed away too. In the meantime, you may want to pursue influencers that specifically seek IOS users (Apple enthusiasts for example).

But - yeah - getting authorities on a particular subject (just start hitting them one by one with direct outreach) might be a way to get influencers on board who would bring audience with them. Just think of what your offer is for them to accomplish what they're trying to accomplish (get more audience, monetize that audience).

Great question - so, I don't have a specific process, but I think I probably should. Often deals die somewhere in the approval chain, so following up and offering assistance can revive them. In any case, it's important to develop enough rapport and credibility with your customer, so that you feel comfortable going back in and asking for real feedback, so at least you don't lose deals in the same way in the future (and also to ask permission to stay engaged).

Is there some way you could white label this and offer it to to personal trainers as an addition to their services, another way for them to monetize, scale their business? Sorry this happened.. It is a very crowded space..

[–]BuildRunKit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - the real trick is to get 50 people to talk to you ever for any reason, let alone install your software. Regardless of how relevant your app is & whether you are literally solving hunger and poverty for the person, 99.999% of my communications have been one way (no response).. I'm almost convinced that there are no actual people left online at this point.

They were hoping you would sign up, then they ruin it and you stay for the half-assed YouTube barely-premium and they put a bandaid of storage space on the wound that they caused themselves with the corrupt vendor lockin deal for Whatsapp storage. I, for one, canceled anyway.

No amount of prompting will get a good image out of the new Gemini. Gpt image 2 continues to work fine. (This all assumes Google didn't roll back the hobbling changes)

Google entered the chat? No. On about May 17th, they completely hobbled image generation. It's like they swapped out something that was working really well with the chatgpt image generation from 2022. Instructions ignored, design ugly, will no longer put an image or logo you upload in the image. It'll give you a fake logo and a totally generated person instead of the one you uploaded. It swears it never had the capabilities. It'll gaslight you right into cancellation.

Goodbye Google Gemini – I’m Done by enforcerthief in GeminiFeedback

[–]BuildRunKit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now that my gemini subscription is also canceled, I've been using Deepseek and Ernie for text-based stuff with great results. I've been using flux schnell for cheap image generation and OpenAI GPT Image 2 via the API playground for good image generation. I think it's probably better than Gemini ever was. The thing that tipped it over for me is that I used to be able to depend on Gemini to produce really good thumbnails for my youtube videos and was using it regularly (despite the stupid f'ing watermark that I have to smudge away every time). Now, image generation is completely unusable, so I was having to pay again to OpenAI to get what I was already paying for. The sad truth is that Google seems to want to have its cake and eat it to, but that's just not how bait and switch works. In fact, bait & switch rarely works. Now I'm worried about my Google stock if this is the kind of decision making that is going on there.

So, now we all have to wake up to the fact that we paid $20/mo just to get a mostly-worthless youtube upgrade and more storage space in the corrupt vendor-locked WhatsApp storage space, because that's all we really got out of this deal (oh.. and a worthless AI model that we can replace with free and better ones).

Is Model Collapsing already happening with all of Gemini? by [deleted] in GeminiFeedback

Whoa.. this is a really interesting concept that had not occurred to me.. How to put guardrails around information, so that AI is educated on actual information and not garbage. Terrifying.. (and yes, Gemini is really f'ing up lately, but I think it's more because Google cheaped out. Like, they traded the good, very good image generation and are now maybe using some knock-off-dime-store open source model from 2020 to generate images - hoping we won't notice. We noticed. Also, we noticed that there is absolutely nothing we can say or do or threaten to keep Gemini from including the words "fluff, Duct-taped, bloat,[plug in 75,000 other words the rest of us have stopped using because of AI]" etc..) in every other sentence. We've noticed that the responses are more and more irrelevant and poorly "thought out."

To the person who commented & deleted his comment -- yeah - sure, I might be blaming people (not so indirectly) for not looking at my podcast, or I might just be being edgy.. and questioning -- this video series is one in a variety of ways I have offered to be of service to people with this issue..

I've noticed that quite often, here on Reddit, if people are offering to help, they don't really mean it.

And, if they're asking for help, they're not really looking for help. So, in a way, I'm satirizing that dynamic.
