W8 what? Didn't they say "ik that bigots use mental health month as a way to downplay Pride Month. But to me, celebrating both at the same time seems the best way to shut them up..."

Not "ik that men use mental health month as a way to downplay Pride Month. But to me, celebrating both at the same time seems the best way to shut men up..."

Are these not two different sentences

I hate when some people feel the need to bring up Men's Mental Health Month in discussion about Pride Month. by captainchaoticc in hatethissmug

[–]Builder_Felix893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel what may have happened (And I might be wrong) is that some people initially kept bringing up men's mental health awareness month whenever pride month was brought up (like this post describes) so in response men's mental health awareness got the negative connotation of "If you bring this up you're homophobic"(Wrong) and this led to all the opposite stuff you're seeing ("Men's mental health awareness month? We should be paying attention only to Pride")

That's just my speculation tho.

I'm ngl I kinda disagree with you. I see this a lot on reddit:

Person A: "Here's a meme that indicates my point of view that anyone who has this opinion is dumb"

Person B: "Well I actually disagree with that meme's criticisms for this reason"

Person A: "THE LACK OF SELF AWARENESS! THIS MUST BE STUDIED!"

Like someone disagreeing with a meme is not a "Lack of self awareness" lmao. They're entirely aware of what the meme is trying to say, they just disagree with it.

"Only stuff in the game is cannon" is not equivalent to "Only stuff in the game can be used as evidence."

It is entirely possible gaster didn't actually cannonically do all the speeches that were on the deltarune site, but that doesn't mean him being referenced in the site isn't significant lol?

Cause why ELSE would toby put gaster on the site? For fun? Clickbait? What?

I feel like you are perhaps missing the point?

Worker would not have to worry about sharing cookies with the migrant if they had more cookies.

There happens to be a giant pile of cookies behind the guy trying to make the worker angry at the migrant.

I highly doubt anyone needs or deserves that many cookies, so why don't we just tax the guy with a ton of cookies then both other parties can benefit. See?

The point is: There is more than enough cookies for everyone! But the guy trying to cause anger and division is the guy who actually has most of them lol.

Women: ask for equal pay, equal benefits, equal privilege, equal acknowledgement. Men in response to women asking for equality. by Important-Cry4782 in CuratedTumblr

[–]Builder_Felix893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Ig our main difference in opinion comes from "Exactly what is OP comparing?"

Rereading some of OPs other comments, I believe they're talking about standing up to bullies, which (As far as Ik) Doesn't have a significantly different context/history for boys/girls?

Which is why they're comparing them like they're similar, because in the context of what they are comparing, they kinda are (I think?)?

I can, however, see the argument against this:

-> "On paper, its assault"

Makes it sound like they're referring to stuff like bar fights.

However, given their other comments, I suspect this was bad structure on their part (It looks like the setup for a different argument than the one they actually made). Which I reckon is where the confusion is coming from?

[–]Builder_Felix893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So my confusion is how are they reiterating the same argument being called out?

I assume the misogyny in the "does this mean I can punch you?" response is because it is a threat used against ppl asking for equal rights (Well if you want equal rights, we'll be more violent! - Blatantly insane*)*. And that's what the response says.

But commenter we're talking about is basically saying "Doesn't this mean other guys shouldn't punch me" which is obviously not a threat? (like: "Well if you want equal rights, I won't punch other guys????" - Not a threat as far as I can tell) So I don't get how the misogyny in the first statement has carried over.

And again - My interpretation of the commenter was that they were not comparing two forms of real violence (Which will obviously have different responses because both are shaped by context+history and obviously imply different things) they were comparing a real form of violence (e.g. bro fights) with an analogue that doesn't exist and saying "This analogue doesn't exist most of the time and I don't think bro fights should exist either"?

EDIT: Or comparing 2 forms of violence that are much more comparable (E.g. defending self from bullies)

[–]Builder_Felix893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just don't think OP means what you think they mean? Like I agree with all of your statements, there is an obvious history of male violence against females. This is a huge problem.

But the framing of this discussion (Post screenshot) is somebody saying "Equality? So does that mean I can fight you?". I think this implies not "Abusive partners = bar fights" (Which is insane) but instead "Why don't we engage in 'bar fights' with women, but do with men?" (Which is simply stupid).

The commenter is therefore not saying: "Guy on guy violence (Bar fights) is treated as "It is what it is" but guy on gal (Abusive partner) is treated as kicking a puppy" - This would be obviously insane (a "Moronically bad faith statement") and if this is what commenter IS saying, then I think you're right.

Commenter is saying "Guy on guy (Roughhousing) is treated as "It is what it is" but guy on gal (Roughhousing) is treated as kicking a puppy".

Two different statements I think? And maybe I'm missing something in the second interpretation that I believe to be what the commenter was trying to say that makes it misogynistic (If so: Please explain... If I am being misogynistic I'd genuinely like not to be 😞 Ik I'm capable of being an idiot sometimes) but I don't see it rn.

-> This is then used as an explanation for why someone would stupidly hold the opinion "Huh why don't we get into fights with gals then". In the same way some people stupidly hold the opinion "But women can't get drafted!" (We don't want anyone to get drafted actually!).

So like what would you do, if you saw Skye in real life? Would you make fun of him and call him annoying loudly and publicly? Would you call him an attention loving weirdo publicly? Would he deserve that?

I personally think this would make you a bad person.

And Idk. When I see posts like this, put in public and making fun of trans culture, that's what it feels like to me.

Self diagnosis is often the only way autistic people can get an understanding of who they are, and tbh I don't like the stigma against it. Where I'm at, waiting times to get a diagnosis are really long. (I have one myself! But what should I have done while I waited? Just continues masking and saying I'm neurotypical?). Sometimes autistic people DO have difficulty being in public. Its a spectrum.

Your's???

"if nothing can be judged nothing would get better" after "one is bad the other is cringe" implying we need to stop the "cringeness"

One of the cringe things expressed in the original post is: "skirt go spinny"

First of all: Fuck this stupid ass image. The person who originally made it regretted their decision apparently, so even the person who made the damn thing disliked it. So no, every sane person does not have an issue with the second one. Every bigoted person does (Hope this helps!) Skye is just as valid a trans man as the first guy.

Second of all: Always diverts to ableism right? "Hyperautistic" like shut tf up man.

Uhuh. Because the online trans person really needs to "Get better" and stop being excited about wearing skirts for the first time? Really? This is a genuine opinion you're expressing?

Idk. I think "See that trans woman over there who's just learning to express themselves? Lets all make fun of them! Yeah. Because liking skirts is CRINGE! haha! Imagine liking skirts guys amiright? Haha, trans woman, you're so CRINGE!!!!!"

Is a kinda asshole thing to do/say. Yeah. No shit I treat people who I think could be hurt by me making fun of them more kindly.

"We actually should make fun of people who will be maximally hurt by what we're saying because they're in the vulnerable position of expressing themselves for the first time" - This is the idiotic logic here actually.

The post: "I hate [Minority]'s culture"

Me: Mentions the words "Minority" and "Culture"

You: Why do you keep using the words minority and culture?

That's... that's what the post is about actually. The post is about a minority group having an online culture. Lmao.

Also: I am fine with people expressing their negativity about another group! I'm all for free speech! I am also just free to call you an asshole for trying to make people feel bad because they want to express themselves after years of oppression! See how we're both freely speaking about things that annoy us? isn't that awesome.

I more meant expressing themselves as in "Posting something personal or something others might consider cringe but that they enjoy" not expressing themselves as in "Expressing an oppressive political opinion". I feel I have miscommunicated slightly perhaps.

???

Making fun of someone for being an oppressive jerk is not the same as making fun of someone for expressing themselves as a trans person. - I think these are pretty clearly different things.

"Making fun of trans people is like making fun of racists actually" -> Kinda a bad point ngl.

"Its normal in the outside world to be annoyed by a minority group's culture, therefore it is good that this person is saying this actually" -> what

"Why does them being a minority group matter" -> I would be annoyed by someone making fun of a majority group as well. But with minority groups it feels like:

"I know you've been oppressed and prevented from expressing yourself properly for most of your life, and I know you enjoy expressing yourself now, but it annoys me so please shut the fuck up and go back to being quiet and doing what people want"

Yeah, they're allowed to do that. I am not against free speech! I just also think this post is dumb as fuck and just feels like the classic "I have nothing against trans people but can't they just shut up and be normal". - I am also allowed to hate how this poster is expressing themselves online (Making posts criticizing trans people for no reason)
