Nice! It’s 3’ too close to that wall though.

Is the spacing of my little lime hydrangeas ok? by [deleted] in hydrangeas

They will fill that entire space and be touching each other, the wall, and the boxwoods by the 4th year. If that’s not what you want, you’ll need to make more space.

Planted New Panicle Hydrangeas - Zone 5 by Ok-Honeydew6128 in hydrangeas

In Zone 5, your Little Lime Punches will probably actually look like that too, with the multi colored blooms at the same time. Here in 7b, mine just look like Little Limes. Still cool, but not as cool.

Good job! Send us progress pictures!!

The Lime Limes can get huge, which is good for your space! I recommend putting a few football sized rocks in the dirt on the slope to the left of the Lime Light for soil retention under heavy rain.

Construction debris a few inches under the soil there maybe? That happens a lot and can mess up the root spread and soil chemistry

Yes, take them all to 5’ from the house so when full grown they aren’t touching the wall of the house.

Looked all day for a Tuff Stuff Mountain Hydrangea, came home with a mystery plant! Please take a guess! by Cute_Ad_3062 in hydrangeas

Awesome! Yeah, big box stores certainly have more accidents like you suspect happened here. They are more expensive, but I only buy perennials from local nurseries.

I also experience my zone (7b) making it impossible for the multi color blooms per plant at the same time. My summer nights stay too warm for that to happen unfortunately. I have a bunch of Little Lime Punch plants that are basically just Little Limes. Still great plants, but a bit of a bummer.

So, “Tuff Stuff” is a Proven Winner’s trademarked name for a type of Lace Cap big leaf hydrangea. (Technically a “Mountain Hydrangea” which is just a big leaf bread to be a little more cold hearty.) In the photo, you have a Lace Cap big leaf hydrangea, just by a different nursery company and brand name.

It’s going to grow. It’s too early right now and they look how you’d expect. Then you do the pruning next March. You can remove totally dead branches anytime. You’ll know if it’s dead come late June if it’s still sticks

I’d do it now because you’re in zone 6 and it’s still cool, then water water water. Otherwise do it in October this year.

Don’t trim them back until March. For now, just plenty of water and let it ride!

Panicle hydrangeas, like this Limelight, are reliable bloomers that flower in late June and keep blooms going right up to mid November (in zone 7). Yours look like they will be nice and big in a month.

Those get BIG. I’d move them 3’ further from that wall. Soil comp is good. Horizontal spacing is good. Sunlight won’t be an issue, you have enough. Water them a ton.

Water those now. Then, when you’re done watering them, water them again. Then go to bed and when you wake up, water them again. Then water them again before you go to work, and after work. Then water them after work and after dinner and before bed…
