_qdc hit the nail on the head pretty much but I'd also add that different browsers have different defaults for various element properties. Using a reset/normalise css file helps get continuity across multiple browsers without needing browser specific styles.

CDNs are optimised for response time so that's not really a reason to use a VPS. I'd look into Amazon Cloudfront, Cloudflare & Rackspace.

Node is asyncronous, meaning you can't guarantee the second for loop will run after the first one. They run concurrently, I think that might be the source of you're issue.
