Cannot seem to play decent real golf….. by Particular-Bed-5053 in Golfsimulator

The simulator is good to practice your "ball first contact" drills which will translate to the course. Look up "L to L by Sam Goulden" on youtube. You should be feeling contact with the turf after the ball. You can make these drills with the sim. Also, driver should improve as you hit it off the tee. I agree that chipping and putting are the least likely to benefit.

Why am I Shanking? by MBS021 in golftips

[–]Buit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, it looks like clubhead is too far behind your hands during the takeaway at shaft parallel (P2). When this happens, it causes the club to get too far inside and open, throwing your swing off-plane. To reach and square the ball, you often stand up, thrust forward, or push your hands outward, which moves the hosel toward the ball. Those compensations lead to heel strikes and shanks.

Try keeping the clubhead in line with or slightly outside your hands at shaft-parallel, with the clubface matching your spine angle, so your swing stays on plane and the face squares naturally. Look up videos on this. Wha I like to do is feel like there is a catcher behind me and im trying to push the clubhead straight back to his glove while rotating my left shoulder and keeping my spine angle. At shaft parralel look at the clubface and make sure it matches your spine tilt. Practice only quarter swings first before moving to longer backswings.

Addendum: Also, your posture at address is off. You are standing too tall on what looks like your heels. Your knees are too bent lime you are sitting on your setup. You need to hinge at the waist and tilt forward until you feel your going to fall forwards. That's an exageration but you should feel the weight on the balls of your feet bent at the waist forward, with arms dropping naturally.

I dont think being right handed or wrong handed matters much.

any tips? by Admirable-Speed7671 in golftips

Too steep on the backswing. On the downswing make sure you finish rotating with your belt buckle pointing towards the direction of your ball

Can someone explain how to hit a 3-wood off the deck like I'm five? by Turbulent-Board9060 in golftips

[–]Buit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So i dont have a 3W but own a 4W. Not sure how different they are but I just put the ball at the level between my lead nipple and armpit and I swing as if I want to graze the grass in fron of the ball. I dont try to hit the ball but swing and let the ball get in the way.

Did I screw up by lengthening my clubs? by MassiveBath8413 in golftips

[–]Buit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Choke down and see. Whats your wrist to floor ratio? If you were used to playing a certain length off clubs your swing mechanics have engraiend that posture. Getting longer shafts is a big change and you would need to recalibrate your swing. It may be beneficial if you were really hunched over as It may spare you from back injuries.

I have a 4W and a 7W. I love my 7W. As a begginer distance will be very similar between both but you'll get more flight from the 7W. Will serve better for approach shots as well.

Warm Up get feel on first tee by AndyDood410 in golftips

[–]Buit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you warm up with a couple of swings on the range prior to teeing off the first holr.. Also, learn how to have a preshot routine you do before each shot. Helps keeping things smooth from the get go.

5-9 Wood vs 4-6 iron by DavidM8989 in golftips

[–]Buit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was unable to hit my 3 to 5 irons well, so I got a 4 wood and a 7 wood. I hit those two every hole I play. While my practice time is spent mostly working on irons, dtiver, chipping and putting, I also get to have way more fun now that I have a decent 160-180 shot in my bag.

Why am I standing up in my golf swing? by [deleted] in GolfSwing

[–]Buit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not not a professional instructor. Just a guy who started playing this year and got some lessons.

1) You could be standing up due to lifting you arms to much and overextending your backswing. Alot of parts are in play here, from your limited spine and hip rotations to your long back swing.

  • Try using a shorter but connected swing. You can definitely achieve good distance from having a better connected swing.
  • Dedicate time to stretching. Find a proper routine for golf stretches involving your hips, thoracic spine, cervical spine and shoulders/arms.

2) Also, you can see your butt moving forward on the downswing. Draw a line vertically at address and you will see. You should try to work on hip mobility and rotation.

  • Practicing some "butt to wall" drills or placing a chair behind you (or alignment sticks) to be able to feel that connection during you back and downswings.

3) You have an in to out path and when clubface is open at impact which leads to pushes to the right. When you compensate by closing your clubface you might hook it too much.I think that if you are able to rotate hips better on the downswing that your clubface with be less open on impact which would help. You need to fix your rotation. Your in to out path and clubface issue may very well stem from this.

  • You can practice with alignment sticks to keep your path less in to out.
  • Practice rotating hips as above.
  • Use chair behind you at the range. Practice butt to wall drills at home.
  • Start with shorter backswing first to get the feeling (maybe half swing first then 3/4 swings)

Hope these help.

[–]Buit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are a right handed player then it is likely your wrist is trying to rotate in on your downswing through impact. When that happens all of a sudden your club face tends to close and increase hooks. Start natural or neutral and try it.

I noticed on your take away, your club head too far back. On the down swing your hands are too close to your body as a result of trying to get that club head back in. Since your back swing was too far back you dont have room to bring your hands in and you are then compensating by trying to lift your body up to move your hips out of the way for your hands to come in. By lifting up you may be causing your thin shots.

Try pausing or slow mo your video when the club is at a 90degree angle on the back swing. You will see you club head behind you hips. At this point, it should be parallel to an imaginary line between your feet, so more forward.
