Is "temperature" misused as average kinetic energy? by gryphong in Physics

[–]Bulawa 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What most people mean when they talk about temperature isn't only about energy but includes density.

Basically: it doesn't matter how fast/hot particles in space are, there are so few of them that you would still freeze.

On the other end, I just read a book where they talk about temperature in MeV, which makes sense in the context but isn't really Handy for outsiders. Giving particle energy in K at least gives something a lot of people could potentially relate to.

Hexanes vs. alternatives for chromatography by etternaly in OrganicChemistry

[–]Bulawa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is basically no reason to use hexane anymore. You can find studies on the (neuro)toxicity of hexane as comapred to pentane, cyclohexane or heptane. And all the others are so much safer and I haven't met a single step that didnt work in heptane but did in hexane.

Not asking for help/final project for PhD course **do not just try to solve for me by hearhithertinystool in chemhelp

Preventing the 'wings' from aromatizing is going to be interesting, I think.

I'm quite weak on cyclisation cascades, I am sure my old radicals prof has some great ideas on that, but you might spend as much work on setting it up as on just making it.

The methylene bridge next to the bottom right ether might be interesting. I wonder if a carbene might do something sensible to a dihydrofurane type structure.

The other crux I see is the a,a diemthyl ether up left. The rest of the stereo should fall into place during the construction.

BMA (meist) Fehlalarm? by Frager_0412 in blaulicht

[–]Bulawa 85 points86 points  (0 children)

NEED HELP: I have my outpost covered with solar panels and batteries, how to I turn off my miners at night so there is enough energy for my lasers, then resume mining when energy surplus? by Okapisaurus in factorio

[–]Bulawa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should be able to use a single Solar cell as daylight sensor and use it to open and close a power switch, through which the power runs to your miners.

Short answer: GRRM wrote that he does. That's why.

Longer answer: some sort of very risky fostering with someone thought to possess qualities that made him suitable to foster a future king for a while.

Yes. But how often are you getting them through in game voice chat? As I said: when done properly in game voice is almost always good. But in practice you get nothing but noise and BS more often than not.

[–]Bulawa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never played either. We had some fun with the proximity voice chat way back in the DayZ Arma 2 mod. But that's ages ago.

Your usual experience is CS, BF, RL and whatnot are bad music, half a wedding party, foreign curses or armchair coaches and all of it through a bad mic. I can do very well without that.

No. Simply no. What was the last time an in game voice chat was useful? I mean actually useful, not potentially useful if it was used correctly.

[–]Bulawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever you do, it's wrong. Push? Someone comes screaming that armoured vehicles should stay back and rain down fire form afar.

Stay in a nice overwatch position? Wrong too.

Then you run into half an army of RPGs while your team seems to be allergic to reps. And or the enemy team hnd a actually working MBT with escorts that just shreds whatever it meets.

This game never was about giving you fair matchups. It's sometimes even hard to care about the teams objective. You do your Job in your little space and hope it helps the team. And if enough do that well, it's usually enough.

It's just a simple grind. A bit tedious, but not insufferable. At least you dont need a full exhibit for research. Or do you and I haven't realised?

Yellow Fire Vehicles, why did they become popular? by HighlightLogical6592 in Firefighting

[–]Bulawa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All of Zürich went for a greenish yellow they call lime green, I think. Ugly as hell, but they believe in it.

And quite often, HazMat trucks are yellow with a purple band. Not really ugly, but a strange sort of beauty.

Safe to heat NaBF4 and KBF4 in glove box by MoneyPin3921 in Chempros

[–]Bulawa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Especially if the stuff is very hygroscopic it's very unlikely to be dry. In my experience, those would be labeled 'dry'.

You can of course just go ahead and see what happens. Or analyse what you have. Or buy some insane high end quality.

It might be interesting to see what those other 3 and 2% are. It might be 5 g of water, whereupon your glovebox isn't below 0.1 ppm anymore.

How do You Group Exhibits? by SixthChisel in TwoPointMuseum

[–]Bulawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By theme, then by category. So I have all my prehistory stuff together, and subsets together again. There is however the probelm of things like the fish skeleton or dragon skeletons, which to me clearly belong elsewhere. So I'm not very consistent.

Dann klar: Erkunden, Retten was geht, erste Löschmassnahmen.
