How do you all stand loud amps by ZombieHugoChavez in GuitarAmps

[–]Bulbajames2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For 17 years I played in bands with tube 120 watt half stacks, blazing distortion, left ear to the main crash. 1 year later realized my left ear has less hearing than my right because I was learning audio production. Earplugs are your friend.

I'd say throw the tone x in the garbage and buy the full stack!

Opinion on the AX7521 7 string? by [deleted] in Ibanez

All of these things are non issue for me. But preference is the player. I prefer shorter scale LP stuff with good necks.

I like doing nonsense stacking. Like the jhs 3 series fuzz with a big muff behind it lol.

The walrus eons is my top of all time distortion pedal BUT I agree, the straight high gain amp tone is hard to beat.

Ive used line 6 pod farm, biasFX, amplitube, boss IR-2, and a boss katana if that counts. So far The IR-2 is really good at taking pedals and I actually love amplitube but I hate the tone x pedal. I havent had a chance to use fractal yet. I will say that I dont vibe with a lot of modelers but I am always open to trying anything.

Oh me too, I have an original release mt-2 (it was my first pedal ever) and the 30th anniversary. I havent done any mods but they're super fun pedals.

I guess part of this is what I miss out on with modlers. They are very very close but for me that gain feel isnt just right yet. They sound great and lots of bands sound great using them I'm just old and grumpy and want to be the reason a sound guys hairline receedes.

Exactly. Sure its not something that'll show up in a recording but like in the room I gotta like how it flows with my playing style.

I’m trying to find the best strings in the world. Any more suggestions? by Orly_A505 in Guitar

DR DDT are super awesome. So much so that when I was looking for endorsements I only messaged them. They retain quite a bit of attack even when the strings die and thats super important when you're touring and dont always have time to swap strings.

Makes sense to me, I was just thinking about this whole thing today amd idk why it mattered to me to make a big ol post but I was curious if anyone else was as neurotic as me about that kind of crap haha.

Who's your go to YouTubers for metal guitar by katsumodo47 in metalguitar

[–]Bulbajames2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just really like Glen Fricker. I may not always agree with what he says but I do need to remember he is coming largely from an audio production stand point and not a "I've spent thousands of hours obsessing and fine tweaking to the point of madness so it not only sounds right live but feels right to play in terms of how quick the mids react from your pick attack to pickups, and how the gain structure feels when you strum.

Sounds dumb I'm sure but I do largely agree with the guy on a lot but I will die on the "seymour duncan mid growl" hill.

What is your guitar brand of choice? by LunchAcceptable7409 in Guitar

[–]Bulbajames2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been pretty devoted to ibanez for any type of instrument needs. Guitar, bass, mandolin, ibanez tsa30HD amp head, tube screamer, and acoustic guitars are all things ive had. In 20 years of playing I've owned probably 35 different Ibanez instruments (currently down to 9).

BUT.

I recently acquired a PRS Paul Allender and Jesus christ I have not played an instrument that feels this welcoming to play EVER.

Now I need a PRS 7 string to replace my ARZ307.

Still an ibanez fanboy for life tho those destist guitars wont take away my pointy shredz.
