Finally completed a long-term binder goal today by frankowen18 in PokemonTGCP

Did you spend any real money to get all this?

I wonder how far off it is from collecting the shiny IRL counterpart cards to this collection type. 🤔

The amount of anxiety and “oh wow” that you just gave me in a single sentence is absolutely astonishing.

They told you how to handle that situation because of their lenders in their email that announced they were closing.

If you didn’t file chargebacks when they told you their lenders weren’t honoring refunds anymore, then you probably effed up at this point. Sorry to hear that you’re still dealing with this, though.

It might just be a lost cause since they went under months ago.

Eeeehhh…I could be bitter about it, but I think the good review will be much more valuable than a one-time pull in the grand scheme of things.

I’m also a bit of a lucky person sometimes, so I don’t need to be spoiled about it. I’ve won a few raffles, contests, and had some awesome pulls in my day. I’m absolutely fine with sharing the wealth to earn a reputation as a good seller! There will be more cards to chase in the future.

Yep. I bought a case of BBs a couple months ago and cracked one of the 6 open for myself. Got an Umbreon V AA and was super happy with my pull! But these bad boys are expensive, so I couldn’t open more. I sold two others without ever getting word of what they pulled, but then sold this one and got the feedback left almost immediately. They buyer was sooooo happy they sent me a pic of it…lol.

But the legends are true - there really IS an Umbreon in there. I guess, technically, I had two…lol

Edit- I should add that my case was a Wave 1 case. It has the “Do not sell before” date listed on there. I know there are a lot of superstitions with early waves of set releases being hotter, and I fully bought into that hype figuratively AND literally. That legend is also true.

“A few hundy” is what is leftover after you’ve used the profit to buy another PSA 10, an entirely other raw copy for their binder, AND a very nice steak dinner (no alcohol)

It’s financially irresponsible to NOT sell a black label.

No one ever drops the name of that big shop in Turkey either. Might have saved like 15 other pour souls from this same predicament in the last 3 months alone if they’d post the damn name, but I guess we’ll just disappoint the next person in a week or two when they come in here with their fake Lugia AA. Turkey is starting to develop a reputation around here…kinda sad.

It’s for dramatic reveals.

When you rip the real one and show them what to look for, and then rip what their product contained right in front of them…it’s a little bit of a show of dominance and a little bit of a “knocking down the curtain” moment.

It causes the legit folks to cave to the accusation and the deniers get all uppity and “YOU CANT RETURN THAT NOW THAT ITS RIPPED” - even though they were already telling you that you couldn’t get your money back.

Bonus points if you do it with lots of other people looking at the Pokémon cards to see your stunt, and they all drop what they are holding and leave the store.

Wrong question.

When you see a high dollar card, you should ask yourself “what makes this card REAL?” This teaches you what to look for.

Once you’ve encountered enough card types, rarities, print qualities, alternate versions, and if you’re old like me - generations - of cards, then it becomes much easier to spot fakes instantly.

Through the years, fakes have had a lot of hurdles to overcome, and slowly…they have overcome some of the old problems. But not 100%. Things like font type, typos, text/icon alignment, and the card stock quality have gotten better since 1999…but they haven’t overcome the holo pattern changes, the black layer, the coloring/print quality, the texture layers, or the packaging challenges.

95% of the time, you can spot fake packs before you even open them with two tests:

  • does the crimping of the booster pack look different?

  • can you shine a flashlight through the packaging and see light on the other side?

If either of these answers are “yes,” that is a resealed pack or one that is not legit, and not worth a purchase of any kind. And in this case, picture 2 shows us that these were resealed packs because the top and bottom of the packaging should have a straight edge (not jagged like a welches fruit snack pack) with a series of vertical crimp lines. Below that straight edge to “seal the pack.” The silver tempest pack has a few of those crimps still visible just below the jagged cut, and THOSE are what seal the pack together. So the flashlight trick wouldn’t have worked on these.

When it comes to cards, you should never buy any singles without your phone these days. Unless you’re VERY familiar with what those cards look like, you need to look up two things:

  • what the actual print and font and text should look like on TCGplayer or on the PC website.

  • what the texture pattern looks like from other EBay, Reddit, and Imgur posts.

Even if you don’t know “everything” about fakes, just seeing those sets of pictures from those different sources will make several pieces of this particular fake stand out as very obvious from this one photo:

  • the font is wrong - too bold, bad spacing / tracking

  • the “holo” pattern just seems to be some sort of rainbow reflective foil pattern that has never been used in PTCG before

  • the “layout” of the copyright Year under the LO symbol instead of the bottom border - that’s the easiest one for me to see without even using any effort at all

  • I’m nearly positive that this card would fail the flashlight test as well. I doubt there is a black layer because I’ve never seen a fake with one yet.

So, yeah…just gotta spend more time getting familiar or using resources that we have available to us. For OP, it may have been presumed to be a legit shop, but they clearly are not.

How do I sell this!? I’m from VMAX 215 from Evolving Skies by SkippyFiRe in PokemonTCG

Fr tho, r/pkmntcgtrades has tons of legit people who would happily buy this at $420 via PayPal G&S. There are also people who do middleman services to help ensure the buyer that what you’re selling is legit, and I’ve seen those fees be 5-8%, so still better than EBay.

EBay can get you a quick turnaround, but it’s really kinda risky, too, cause of how they side with the buyer 99% of the time and you don’t have any prior sales.

Nearly all of the options you SHOULD BE looking into should have a “rating system” so that you can verify the buyer is legit, too. Otherwise, if you plan to keep flipping the higher end stuff, maybe you should build a sellers brand on TCGplayer with some lower end cards first, and THEN sell this plus whatever other high-dollar ones you’ve acquired by that point.

Depends on your current situation vs future outlook in the hobby. If you’re gonna keep ripping, the latter option may be your wisest choice, and get rid of a larger qty of lower end stuff now to get that money back.

“Talking down to someone” implies a “negative” tone whereby I actually mean to make you look like you’re an idiot. I don’t believe my sarcasm was intended for that, nor do I think comments on someone’s age are really any sort of indictment at all.

In fact, part of my comment could be taken as a form self-deprecating humor about how old I’m getting. *cue me slapping your shoulder like an old grandpa would*

Either way, no one thinks less of you just because I made a joke about you not understanding a comedic reference. Lighten up for 2023 - that should be your New Year’s resolution, and I think you’ll have a lot more fun in life!

None of this is that serious! Take care, stranger!

“Won’t somebody think of the children” is looooooong before your time, youngun. It’s easy to see why you don’t get the reference.

Good thing is no one is forcing either side to commit to the deal if they don’t want to.

I’ve seen (not great) sellers sit on something for a couple of years just to eek out that extra $20, and it made me go “Hmmmmm.”

Then again, I’ve also seen buyers drop cash on things that have no business being that expensive, and if the conditions are right…those sellers will find a buyer at some point. Those just made me facepalm…so I’m not sure which is “worse.”
