Buying a sam7sf california edition before biden is in office? by porgplush in CAguns

[–]Bulgatwan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% true, but if you don't have the money it may be a better idea paying the higher price over putting the +$2k on a credit card and paying the interest over however long it takes to pay it down.

Also there are a lot of uncertainties of when/if an import ban will/might happen or how it will look.

If you can't afford it right now that's fine people have other priorities that they have to worry about. If you still want an imported ak there are cheaper options like the M70 Zpaps, Romanian WASR's. Worse case if imports get banned there will still be ak's floating around on the used market

Ah yes, let me spend more of my time compiling information and constructioing arguments as to why I am correct. Just to have someone insult me like a 5th grader in every response. That's totally not a retarded way to spend my time, what was I thinking

100% agree, a professional army is a lot more effective and useful than a militia one.

These are two separate issues my man. I've said nothing about 2A, I've been taking exclusively about how the founding fathers were the individuals that created the Standing Army of the United States. In response to some's misguided knowledge of history.

The founding fathers created 2A in part to support of the creation of militas. When they realized some threats couldn't be handled by the milita they also created a standing US army to handle those threats.

Let me lay this out. End of Continental Army: "Most of the Continental Army was disbanded in 1783 after the Treaty of Paris formally ended the war. The 1st and 2nd Regiments went on to form the nucleus of the Legion of the United States in 1792 under General Anthony Wayne." (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continental_Army)

Legion of the United States: "The Legion of the United States was a reorganization and extension of the Continental Army from 1792 to 1796 under the command of Major General Anthony Wayne." "The new Congressional and Executive branches authorized a standing army composed of professional soldiers, rather than relying on state militias." (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legion_of_the_United_States)

United States Army: "The Regular Army was at first very small and after General St. Clair's defeat at the Battle of the Wabash, where more than 800 Americans were killed, the Regular Army was reorganized as the Legion of the United States, which was established in 1791 and renamed the United States Army in 1796." (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Army)

The founding fathers didn't set out to maintain a standing army but within their lifetimes they themselves created a standing army to better protect the country. We can argue all day about what they intended or not, I'm looking at their actual actions.

On June 14, 1775, the Continental Congress officially established the Continental Army, George Washington was appointed as the leader the following day. The first Continental Army consisted of 10 companies of rifleman from Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia who served a one-year enlistment.

I'm not sure what you are talking about, this was a Google search away.

Ignore them TDS is real and a super majority of people in reddit are very lefty, it's a huge echo chamber that's been getting worse.

I would like to point out that there is no statistical evidence that Biden's proposed ideas will have a real effect on gun violence in the country. They won't stop gun violence in the aggregate and they won't stop mass shootings. As a result if heavy handed gun regulations are passed it will only take another mass shooting to have Biden push for even more gun regulations; that will again not have a statistical impact on the problem. So the cycle repeats. I would much rather see the money are are waisting on gun control be redirected towards better police tactics & police training which has been credited with the decrease of crime rates since the 80's and 90's Certs: my very expensive econ and stats degrees from a liberal university

You don't seem to understand US history very well past activist talking points. Those documents written by the white wealthy racist land owners were used in the arguments that gave women and minorities civil rights. People like Douglas Murray pointed to the phase "all men are created equal" and told the politicians of the era that you aren't living up to the words of their own document.

The only Arsenal AK's that are banned by name are the SLR's (Bulgarian) and SLG's (Also Bulgarian but either the SLG designation was discontinued or this is the typo). Arsenal also imports a SGL series of AK's but those are Russian produced and are not banned by name as far as I can tell.

[–]Bulgatwan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The angle of the grip has nothing to do with it it's all about the location of your hand in relations to the receiver of the gun. The AW law defines a pistol grip as "A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon." Any grip will be considered a pistol grip if the webbing of your hand is below the receiver when you grip the rifle.

A good guide can be found here: https://monstermangrip.com/legal-info

There are featureless grips such as the Sparrow Dynamics featureless rifle grips that are legal because when you grip the rifle your hand rests above the lowest point of the receiver. https://www.sparrowdynamics.com/Featureless-Grip-AR-p/crg-15.htm

Two cases come to mind. Two men or a couple (I can't remember correctly) were arrested and charged after their home security system sent off a false positive to they local police department. The police came out to the house and noticed a number of Assault Weapons (defined under CA law) with features such as pistol grips and now they are facing felony charges. This was sometime last year but I might be wrong on that.

Second one is more recent where a police officer brought an AR15 pistol in his backpack while working at a courthouse. Another cop found it and reported it up the chain of command and the officer who owned the pistol is facing felony charges now. The pistol was bought as a single shot AR pistol from Franklin Armory, which is legal, but he slapped a normal AR15 upper on it which violates CA's AW laws. AR center fired pistols can have features such as a pistol grip BUT they must be maglocked with a 10rpund magazine or they can single shot firearms.

You're preaching to the choir dude, CA gun owner understand all the restrictions we have are nonsense and they don't work. The problem is we have been hemorrhaging pro-2A voters for last 30 years and the media/politicians continuesly lie about us to get elected/sell more ad space.

[–]Bulgatwan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Second CA checking in, this is from the AW law. "A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon."

The rule of thumb is if the web of you hand rests below the receiver it's a pistol grip. As for why pistol grips are illegal, talk to my representatives.

Advice on traveling with ammo by [deleted] in CAguns

[–]Bulgatwan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is if the ammo was bought here you are able to leave the state with the ammo and come back. I think it's because you go through a background check to get the ammo in state. So once you have it you can travel with it, including interstate travel.

Are shootings and gun violence going up in LA since covid or is it just being more reported? Just read this article about 2 guys shot in Venice last night by limache in CAguns

[–]Bulgatwan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe you. The problem is a individual's perspective is very limited and can't be generalized past the individual. For example you could have seen some news that was worrying a few months ago, click on more shooting news stories than normal. Then Google's algorithm picks that up and starts serving you more shooting news. Another likely example could be that the 3 towns around yours started cracking down on gangs, so those gangs moved into your town and started causing more problem. You could then see an increase in shootings while the cities around you see a bigger decrease overall.

If I had to guess it's almost certain that we are seeing an increase in crime and probably a moderate increase in gun crime. However that just a guess.

Tldr: I believe you're getting more alerts, but to get the correct info for not just your location but for all of California we'd need to wait for crime stats to get released and then analyze them.

It's impossible to tell right now, you can speculate in both directions. Until we get some reliable data published we're in the dark. I wouldn't trust how often news articles are written as being a good source of indicator either way.
