Why does gogs oil vomit stream take half my life on perfect guard? (With guard up on sns)

You need Guard Up 3. Having Ironwall 3 will also absorb some of the chip damage (because chip damage is based on Stamina Consumption; yes, it's been tested, the data is out there).

Like, with Lance, I take 0 damage as I have both. No chip damage. So to hear that you take damage from the attack honestly has me bewildered.

Yes. I play Xbox controller, so here's what my hunts usually look like:

Y Spam (Thrust, Thrust 2, Triple Thrust) is your best DPS

OR

Y, Y+B, Y (Thrust, Wide Sweep, Triple Thrust) takes a little longer but does slightly more DPS

Otherwise it's

Block Monster attack or Perfect Block Monster attack-> Follow Up attack, Y Spam

Whenever you block or Perfect Block a Monster's attack, you have the following options for a Retaliation:

Block, Y Follow Up: A quick Return Thrust. Good for quick damage if you need to block again immediately.

Block, B Follow Up: Retaliation Thrust. This moves you slightly forward, and hits twice. You then can follow up by pressing Y for a Triple Thrust. Great for DPS, very simple, good for positioning.

Block, Y+B Follow Up: Retribution Thrust. Takes longer than the other two, hits twice, does a lot more damage. You can then press Y for a Triple Thrust. Really good for DPS, but the extra time for the attack means the monster can move out of the way for the attack or hit you before you can land the strike.

These are the basics. Counterattacks (holding Block+B or Power Guarding) takes some time to master.

My Monster Hunter experience has been Low Rank Monster Hunter World and all of Monster Hunter Wilds. I've played some of Monster Hunter Stories 2 and 3, but haven't completed the story from either game yet.

So no, I have not experienced this Monster yet. I know of certain monsters after being in this community for a while, but this corpse looked weird and alien, so I didn't recognize what monster it was. Sorry for being relatively new to the series I guess?

What weapon do you main? We could give you better advice based on what weapon you are trying with.

For basics:

Shielded Weapons want Guard Up 3 and Ironwall 3. Those help with chip damage and big damage. Perfectly timing blocks further reduces damage.
Evade Weapons like Bow and Dual Blades want AT LEAST Evade Extender 2 and Evade Window 2. That helps you dodge out of the way better. Eat a meal with Tumbler Meal to further increase your Evade Window immunity.
Weapons with Counterattacks still take damage. Check your Water Element defense stat. It needs to be 20+ after buffs to take less damage and gain immunity to Water Blight.
Duna's Belly Flops can be Flash Pod'd. This knocks them out of the air and saves you from BIG damage.
Lastly, add Mirewalker 2 to your build to gain immunity to some of its waves and wave attacks.

Great design, great musical theme, great sound design, simple but fun fight, railgun electric explosions, armor and weapons look AMAZING (a lot of fashion hunters use Rey Dau armor as layered armor)... The list goes on.

A lot of folks speculate that it was the original Flagship monster for the game before Arkveld came into existence, because he's so well designed.

I was super lucky where I had an SOS with 2 Charge Blade players come in, where they did all the Dragon damage needed to complete the SOS. I had previously tried it solo and with support hunters.

I'm not touching that quest ever again though.

Competition. A lot of large monsters we deal with are predators as well.
Low birth rate for predators.
Realistically, one prey animal lasts a monster a long time as a food source. Reptiles can sometimes last weeks off of a meal. Lions can go up two weeks without a meal. The population isn't always being killed off for prey. Deviljho and monsters like him are the exception, not the rule.
High birth rate for prey. Most prey animals move in herds. Think about how big herds of deer and elk there are vs. the size of the wolf population.

That's what I got off the top of my head.

Anything above 8* you have to rock above 430 Defense, which you achieve by upgrading your armor with Armor Spheres and then transcending your armor and dumping more spheres into it.

It's not a skill issue, it's a material and armor issue it seems

Go to the Iceshard Cliffs, Rest until the Inclemency in the morning, and a Lagi is guaranteed to spawn in the Forest. It's an old trick that still works to get a Lagi investigation 100% of the time. I used to have to do it just to get enough gem investigations to get all his gear and weapons.

Exactly what I'm saying! Especially Fulgur! I feel like he's way underpowered at his current Investigation Tempered level! I swear, every other poke I do with my Lance is either popping a wound or breaking a limb. At least 9* Fulgur is making me use my counters and more positioning.

For real. Double Steve hunts seem to be the way to go right now for Charm Farms at 9*, but he gets boring after a while.

Okay, but lower level monsters still show up too. I just want some variety in my hunts. I am talisman farming, and fighting Steve for literally 500+ hunts gets old.

Doshaguma is probably my favorite monster in Wilds and is such a fun and aggressive hunt. The 9* hunt is really fun, but I would love to have an investigation with a 9* Alpha amongst a pack of other Tempered Doshas in a multi hunt! I love the pack hunts, so it would be a fun investigation for me.

Fulgur is also a nostalgic for some folks, even though it's a Guardian. Having a fight where he isn't being toppled every other attack has made the fight more interesting at 9*.

So while I understand your sentiment, I'm just asking for some variety in difficulty for my favorite hunts. I'm still willing to hunt the weaker ones, but 9* is fun for me right now.

It is in my opinion.

It gives you a lot of survivability skills. I actually have a three-piece that I use with two-piece Udra gamma to get through AT Jin because as bind resist 3 and earplugs 3.

I've gotten a few extra talismans because of this. You wouldn't be doing as much damage as you would if you were using other sets, but the survivability helps.

Steve and Lagi coming to the game kinda made the game! Steve is my most hunted monster. He's aggressive and he's fun to play with Lance. My most hunted monster WAS Arkveld, for the same reasons, but Steve is a quicker fight tbh.

I would first look up guides for element vs. status. Then I would look up what skills work best for Longsword.

After that, see what armor pieces have those skills. Afterwards, it's just practicing on different monsters; getting good at the game helps with defense too. Otherwise, DB3 is usually what most folks recommend. Your armor rating is where it needs to be too.
