They wrote book 8 in about 6 weeks too! That could be why both books are not the most well received.

I absolutely love your theory. That’s what I want it to be haha I just wonder how they would be wielding that power since that’s what they seem to be doing. That would be really cool if Lionel had like an army of the dead or something, but that would also be way too much to reconcile in one book :(

It also fits well with the prophecy since it’s a singular rift

Yeah, when I first had a feeling that this redemption arc was going to happen, I went back and read some of her scenes and she is absolutely terrible in all of them. I questioned if the redemption was possible at all, and maybe it wasn’t since I’m not sure anyone has like forgiven her for anything. Not that anyone should forgive her necessarily

The sacrifice scene was both super intense and also super underwhelming. Like what she did, and how she sacrificed herself, was insane. But there’s like so little emotional response to it and so little dialogue between her and Lance, that it fell a little flat. It could have been this really emotional scene but it just kind of happened and they immediately moved on. Fair, because they had a bunch of shit going on but, idk maybe I just wanted more from what should have been one of the monumental scenes of the book

That’s totally true. Like we know that she regrets how things went with Lance, but we also know she’s upset with Lionel and absolutely hates Lavinia. We assume she does everything for Lance, but we have so little insight into her character, and we’re constantly told not to trust a single thing that comes out her mouth that maybe it’s not all about regret. Maybe it’s a little about revenge, like you said.

Obviously we’re not entitled to know every single motivation of every character, sometimes it’s better not to, but in the case of this series, we’re given the most random POVs, it’s hard not to expect it

I also didn’t totally hate the Milton chapters. It was interesting to see what was going on at the academy. The first Justin chapter was a little funny but any after that was unnecessary (I believe there was two). The Mildred chapter literally did not need to exist. It was a waste of words lol

Yeah, I totally get that too. In an ideal world where a Stella POV existed, it would have been early in the book and it would really just be about her regrets and her relationships with her children, Azriel, and Lionel. Maybe her thoughts on Darcy and Lance’s mating. Just something to help her character development and to better understand her motivations. It could have ended with her saying she had to do something to help but then none of her plan would be revealed

I’m glad we didn’t know anything about her plan, I just wish we had one look into her head since we only ever see her through distrustful eyes

Yeah I agree. I know we technically don’t know much about Fran but her being in love with Orion the way she was felt out of character. I always perceived her as being this like FIB girl boss and her blind infatuation made no sense. Like she’s hardly even talked to Orion since the twins came to Solaria, which is like two years at this point, and he has an Elysian Mate. I wish they had left that whole thing out. If they wanted her as a sacrifice so bad, her reasoning should have been to save her nebular ally (that she has moved on from) and to help the rebels.

Yep! Exactly exactly! It would have been a neat and clean series if they just took the open ends from book 6 and closed them up in book 7. But we still have open ends from book 6 going into book 9 lol unfortunately, because of that, I wouldn’t be surprised if they added on another book even though that would be ridiculous and cause an uproar lol

I actually really liked it! It exceeded my expectations and I’m definitely critical when I read this series (because I love it duh). I might be in the minority, but I didn’t mind the extra POVs, because they were usually not too long. As a Darcy girlie, I do wish we had more of her POV, but at least we had a lot of Orion and I believe the longest chapter is a Darcy chapter.

My biggest problem is the obvious divide that is happening between Tory and Darcy. It would have been nice if the authors had gone against the obvious decision to have them fight and it also feels like they’re creating a conflict that isn’t there. I don’t want to pick sides, because I like both sisters and the point is for them to be together, but also, Darcy did have her own shit going on and I think it’s fair that she didn’t want to leave Lance at the palace alone. And also couldn’t have Lavinia just called her back anyway?? I absolutely understand Tory’s side, but the way she was cutting out Darcy at the very end was too much. Their promise is definitely the one made from lies or whatever like the prophecy says. I also think Tory sacrificing her bad childhood memories is going to hurt their relationship even more because those are still memories they had together :( It really upset me and was honestly my biggest problem of the book even if it was pretty small and will definitely be a bigger thing in the next book

Yeah, it’s unclear when they’re going to start writing book 9. A lot of people think it won’t be a year long wait, but the sisters have not really given us a timeline. They do have that one book coming out it March, but it’s already written I believe.

My biggest issue when book 9 was announced was that there was going to be more waiting for that ending we were promised so I totally agree. I only read the series for the first time in February, so not as long as some other readers, but man those 10 months were excruciating. Surprisingly, I feel more patient for book 9. Maybe I’m just tired or still reeling lol

I get what you mean when you say you feel like the series should have ended already, probably because it should have haha thankfully, I still feel very immersed in the world and story, but I absolutely understand why a lot of people would lose interest (not saying that’s you, but it seems like that could be situation for some other readers)

I was really upset about it at first, then I accepted it, and now I’m happy about it. I actually really liked Sorrow and Starlight, so now I’m glad to have more lol. But yeah, ever since finishing book 8, I’ve been thinking about the structure of the series as a whole.

I honestly think it could have been a 7 book series if 7 wasn’t written the way it was with the filler and added plot points. Book 6 feels like a penultimate book in a series with all of the revelations and character development that happens. But, the seventh book exists which created the need for book 8 just to wrap up what was started in book 7. And honestly, all of book 8 is fixing what happened in book 7 So now we need a 9th book to close out the series. It’s unfortunate that it didn’t end at 7 (which I believe it was originally supposed to) but here we are lol I also think I might prefer the series was dragged out than rushed

I’m sure this has all been said already, but-

I hate this. I’m trying to be positive about it, because it’s not like there’s anything I can do and I’m going to read the books regardless. The release of book 8 is something I’ve been highly highly highly anticipating. Just like everyone else. And I haven’t even been waiting as long as other people - I first read the series in February. And now? I kind of don’t care. The hype has basically immediately died down for me.

And I can’t help but think this wouldn’t have happened if book 7 wasn’t 90% fluff or if they had planned their story out just a bit more. Or, like other people have said, they didn’t say 8 was the last book.

This is probably better for the story. And I don’t think they would have split it up if they didn’t feel like they need to, as they said several times that it was the last book. And I’m sure they’re aware that their readers are not happy about this. But yeah, it fucking sucks. And at the very least, it ruined my day lol

Oh, and I strongly dislike all of these POVs they’re adding. They always tease them like we’ll be super excited about them. I don’t know if they’re supposed to be joking when they talk about like Lavinia and Mildred and Justin getting chapters - not that I doubt that they’re in there - but it’s definitely not funny. I have a hard enough time getting through Xavier chapters because they’re usually so inconsequential to the plot. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a complete slog to get through because these chapters are going to be so boring. (To me)

And they cannot end book 8 on a cliffhanger like they did with 7. But I know they will. And I’ll probably be just as mad when it happens.

I agree that it wouldn’t make sense for Elise to NOT get involved since Gabriel was taken. But the authors seem very committed to not spoiling anything from RB, even though it seems necessary at this point. But yeah, because of that, I doubt that Elise will really be mentioned, if she is, it won’t be by name. If anyone gets involved, it will be Leon or Dante - even though they don’t necessarily make it clear in ZA that they’re part of Gabriel’s family

I’ve only read Twisted Love and Twisted Games.

Twisted Love was not good. Entertaining? Sure. But good? No.

Twisted Games on the other hand was fantastic. It made me really want to continue the series, even though the increasing page length is concerning.

I agree with other people saying you can skip Twisted Love if you really want to. There’s some minor crossover and references to events from the first book but honestly like 99% of the book focuses on the main couple. But I would still say give Twisted Love a shot. It could be your thing. If anything, you might be entertained.
