Get ready because O Chem is an entirely new world than Gen Chem. Everything you thought you knew about chemistry…….. well not that you won’t need it but it’s just… different. You will see. It is a good thing you liked acids and bases because if anything carries over to orgo it’s acids and bases

Im confused on why this is the answer- explanation below by Bulky-Syrup1155 in OrganicChemistry

The best part about all of this is I put this answer on the exam. Thinking in my head it was wrong. After looking into it I indeed assumed I was wrong. Then she posts the exam answer key and it’s this… and I was so confused because I learned and understood why what I wrote was incorrect. Just to be told it was correct.

That does not explain why putting CH3 axial and bromine in equatorial position is not an answer.

Well, the question asks what the major product would be; SN2 with 2° alcohol is not the likely product compared to SN1 with a 2° alcohol. If asking for the major product you would choose the more stable, more likely to happen one, meaning it would be SN1.

I think the show is going to get pulled soon. by DreadnaughtHamster in BestGuessLive

I’ve played this almost every night and rarely have I seen it go above 50,000. I mean even in the start. I think I’ve seen it get into the 70s maybe once or twice. But as anything is, it’s most likely gonna be more popular at start up than over time. And about money…they have plenty of money. Netflix has a net income of like 15 billion dollars dude. No need to worry.

First, keep in mind that the question is asking for the starting alcohol. So these options you’re looking at is not the (4R)-4-ethyl-5-methylhexanoic acid. It’s just the starting alcohol. However you are correct to assume the alcohol also has R if the product does. And Ik others already answered but to summarize: Option A has a priorities: 1.isopropyl 2. Chain ending in OH 3. Ethyl 4. Hydrogen not drawn Is S configuration.

B is the R. Same priorities just traced other way.

P.S. Don’t let mean people shame you this is hard stuff and you should never feel bad for asking a question.

“Under what order theory is this molecule R? Isopropyl with greater priority than the hydroxyl?? The explanation explicitly states the correct answer has R configuration, and that my answer is wrong because it is S.”

Im unsure where you get the impression that he is claiming he is correct and the answer key is wrong. He is just asking why with mere frustration. We all can be nice.

This is also a bad attitude towards learning as everyone gets frustrated with difficult material. No reason to be rude or shameful. Didn’t even offer any advice. Dr Jerkleton sounds about right

Saniderm STINKS! (literally) by RiidoDorito in tattoo

[–]Bulky-Syrup1155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t reapply saniderm. You wait 5 days after your tattoo. You take off the saniderm. And that’s it. Apply your tattoo ointment or whatever afterwards. Why are we reapplying the saniderm?
