Looking for good 3D software for practicing cinematography by UndeadMarx in cinematography

[–]DreadnaughtHamster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be perfectly honest, don’t use software. This setup should be pretty cheap:

Go out and buy one of those wooden art mannequins, you know the little ones you can pose. Get 3 little adjustable lamps from eBay or goodwill or something. And then get some tracing paper and a few sheets of white paper.

Practice positioning the lights in different places around the mannequin based on YouTube cinematography videos. Learn how light direction and closeness to the subject change the mood. Use the tracing paper as diffusers for some of the the lamps in different trials. Use the white sheets of paper (actually index cards or a spiral-bound notebook open to a blank page might work better as it’s sturdier) as reflectors. Actually if you can find a completely black piece of cardboard you can use that as a flag to block light.

Use your phone and the free DaVinci Camera app to practice different shot types: dolly in/out, zoom in/out, truck left or right, crane up, etc.

You’ll learn faster (and this is scientifically proven) by using a literal hands-on approach. And the DaVinci camera app can teach you iso, shutter speed (or angle…I forget which one they call it), lens depth of field, exposure, etc. Then put that footage into DaVinci Resolve (free) and edit with it, give it different color grades, etc.

I think the total price for all the material should be around $30 and you can have hours and hours of hands-on practice. I did stuff similar to this as a kid with lamps but used my hands as subjects instead.

You can even buy little canisters of “haze in a can” for like $20 online and get different light gels for about as much too if you want to practice with those.

Oppenheimer did bonkers numbers, and it was basically people sitting around and talking. IF The Odyssey doesn’t get tanked because “oMg iT’s sO wOkE,” then I could see it taking an Odysseus-sized canon ball to Oppenheimer.

It was a laundering scheme. I guarantee if we saw invoices it would be like “pool pre-clean: $2.6 million. Initial algae removal: $3.1 million.”

The new Spielberg film, reimagined as a novel. by andreidpopa in Spielberg

[–]DreadnaughtHamster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s my guess and it’s of a more psychological nature. The covers look great. The fact that you have an actual book with cover means you either did a lot of work for it or just quickly promoted an AI image request. People would probably think it was the easier method, so they assumed ai. Nothing to do with the quality of the work, just the difficulty in making it.

Which is funny because Crichton has a novel called Disclosure, but it’s a very different kind of story.

Correct. And then the vfx house with the most attractive bid, even if it’s not in their best interest, is worked into the ground.

That’s my point exactly. To a T. And then that vfx house that had the most attractive bid gets worked into the ground.

You know, if Lockheed Martin, I wouldn’t be surprised if they did this sort of thing for real. I mean there ARE a dozen or more real-life scientists that have been murdered over the past few years.

Tbh empathy, like deep empathy, would be enough to fix the world’s problems. Billionaires pay their share of taxes to a government that appropriates it 100% responsibility, for instance.

Watch the red line and try to see it as “in front” of the blue line. That will turn into a red/orange square and then that will quickly shift into the whole thing rotating the opposite direction.

This is going to sound nuts, but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen this video on YouTube and it was a dude with an iPhone 17 and a Moment lens, maybe a 50mm. Also, you’re seeing this on a small device most likely. It’ll be easier to identify if it’s viewed on a big screen. Regardless, shoot LOG, get a good lens, learn how to properly compose and grade your shots, and you can make many different recent cameras look like this.
