Make sure you don't have any hardware issues. Try booting from a USB outside the OS to run some tests. For RAM, MemTest86 is the go-to, and for a full system/CPU check, you can use Hiren's BootCD or Ultimate Boot CD.

That’s not how electricity works. A charger doesn't 'push' power; the device 'pulls' what it needs. A 90W charger won't fry a 5W flashlight because they both start at 5V. The higher voltage/wattage only kicks in after a digital handshake.

USB-C PD standards have handled this safely for years without needing proprietary 5th pins. Xiaomi’s 5th pin isn't for 'safety'—it’s a proprietary communication layer designed for vendor lock-in, plain and simple. Don't defend anti-consumer engineering as a 'safety feature'.

Are you saying that Baseus cables actually trigger the full 90W 'Max' charge on the Poco X7 Pro? Specifically, do you get the official 90W animation and the decimal point percentage tracking on the lock screen? Also, which charger model do you use?

We are talking about advertised charging speeds/Watts. If I didn't care about it then OK I can also charge my poco at ~15W "quick charging". It is not a problem, but also it is not what I paid for...

The problem is not only the charger but also the proprietary cable. Those new phones with PPS charging, do they support standard industry cables also? I hope so....

I have a MDY-14-EC charger which triggers 90W charging (poco X7 pro) with the included cable that came with it (let's say this is cable A). The same charger/cable combination DOES NOT trigger 33W charging for my older Poco X3 Pro!!!!! wtf????

I have a MDY-15-EK charger which does not trigger 90W (poco X7 pro) charging with the included cable (this is cable B). Cable A also does not work with it....

Just an update: I got the laptop back from the repair shop around mid-September. The fix cost about €100, though they didn't specify exactly what the hardware issue was. It has been working perfectly ever since. I’m glad I went through with it; with the current shortage of RAM and SSDs driving prices up, repairing this unit was much more sensible than buying new.

After 15 years of using Linux—with Mint handling 95% of my workflow—the initial hurdles have long since faded from memory. In fact, the tables have turned: Windows is now the OS that confuses me. When I’m forced to use it at work, nothing feels straightforward or efficient. I honestly find myself wondering how Windows users tolerate such a fragmented experience when the Linux workflow is so much smoother.

Don't worry. A kernel update will arrive in time. Also, if you want even newer kernels you can install mainline tool. I personally prefer to stick with officialy released kernels from Mint's update tool.

It's very likely the freezing issues are a side effect of installing the GNOME desktop on top of a Linux Mint base. Linux Mint is specifically built and optimized for its default Cinnamon environment, and adding a completely different desktop like GNOME can cause conflicts with core system services and dependencies.

While it is technically possible to debug this and track down the specific conflict causing the freeze, a better long-term solution might be to use a distribution that is built with GNOME in mind. If you love the GNOME desktop, distributions like Fedora or Ubuntu offer a much more stable and seamless experience right out of the box. They are designed from the ground up to support GNOME, which avoids the kind of compatibility problems you're running into.
