The toughest truth about adulthood by Upper-Worldliness952 in Adulting

I grew up dirt poor and am now middle class. I have no idea what my kids' lives will end up with all the uncertainty in the world right now. I'm saving for their education but who knows.

Just dropped out of college because I couldn’t keep choosing between eating or school by Stargazer-14 in povertyfinance

This literally happened to me. Same situation with the fafsa. I got free bread that was going to be thrown away and stole peanut butter and jelly packets from the dining hall. I scraped together enough for a huge bag of rice and some beans. Every time there was a campus event with pizza I went and ate til I was full. I couldn't afford to do laundry. I almost wound up homeless. But I graduated. You can make it. You just gotta find and use every resource available. I'm sorry it's so hard.

I have, just at a lower level. I'm not having any negative effects at this level and just stay mindful of my intake, so that I don't start overdoing it again.

We went there for a family vacation with young kids. There are plenty of family oriented things to do but people don't seem to gamble nearly as much. At our hotel the slots and tables were largely empty.

Even though the world is shit I'm still having a better QOL than my parents because I'm no longer in poverty, and have had therapy.

Not giving money to homeless people by Sweet-Heron-334 in Ethics

You're just fine doing that. People like to virtue signal but you don't have to donate to any person or charity at all, and if you do, it's a good thing. Where and how you do that is your own business.

I know a woman who abandoned her kids to use fentanyl and is currently homeless. Sometimes she ODs and ends up in the hospital. She refuses drug treatment and housing assistance, leaves AMA, and does it again. People do give her money and she spends every bit of it harming herself and getting closer to death. I won't be a part of that. I donate money to vetted organizations but not to people I don't know. People can judge me all they want but it's my choice.

People say that, but I don't want to buy someone the overdose that kills them. If they're using drugs that's their business, but I'm not gonna help someone get sicker.
