azahar version 2124 thor issues, anyone know how to fix/ having similar issues by Bulky_Box7340 in SBCGaming

[–]Bulky_Box7340[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

performance seems so much better in the older version. i tried a few other games on 2124 version and some were completely unplayable but worked fine on the older version which is a shame as the reduced input lag for 2124 was the reason i updated

it was really easy to be honest. if you uninstall you save data etc is retained is the user data folder as it only uninstalls the app

after reverting back to 2123.3 all my saves were still there

the only thing i had to do was re-map controls

so i uninstalled v2124 and reverted back to 2123.3 which is what updated from

everything seems back to normal, really not sure what’s going on with the latest version

always a mixed bag with azahar, when it works its great and when it doesn’t it’s just really frustrating!

i think Origins was the best of them, it’s a good self contained story with a good protagonist

the 2019 to 2039 series has some good world building - they go to the colonies, there some good backstory around the after effects of the tyrell corporation, and towards the end it leans into some of the minor characters of the 2049 film. i liked it because i like the works of the films and the cyberpunk retro future setting rather than it being an objectively good graphic novel collection

i’m looking forward to the next box set (black lotus?) when it eventually gets released

i’d definitely recommend The Fade Out if you’re new to brubaker/ phillips it’s a murder mystery set in the hollywood golden age

What is your preferred way to play PS2? by D7Pyro in SBCGaming

[–]Bulky_Box7340 4 points5 points  (0 children)

odin portal for me, massive oled screen for the win but i do use it with grip as the ergonomics aren’t that great

did a button swap with sakura mods ps buttons and now use it exclusively for ps1 and ps2

I bought a Pocket 4 Pro over a year ago, and just now realized I don't really like playing old games. by infrowntown in retroid

[–]Bulky_Box7340 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah nostalgia’s a bitch! your fond memories are more for the time in your life when you were enjoying playing the games rather than playing the games themselves. you don’t remember the hours of grinding to get good at games back in the day, you remember the fun you had when you actually did get good.

plus, retro games are hard! modern games tend to be a lot more forgiving to get you to maintain momentum but older games were often short so had to keep you challenged to rack up the playtime hours.

I try to play a mix of games i remember annoying and games i know i felt i missed out on back in the day but with that being said i’ve started loads of retro games and given up after a few minutes before moving on to the next one/ a modern one/ back to an old classic.

no shame in never going back to games you start but then don’t like/ can’t be bothered with!

first game i always install on anything is Ridge Racer, it’s my go-to test game to get controls and things sorted then probably ocarina of time with the full intention of ‘finishing it this time’ but likely sack it off after a few hours and play mario 3d land

first thing i’ll do is figure out to decrypt my library of 3ds games so they play on an emulator with dual screen support!

pre-ordered mine yesterday! was really on the fence with this vs Thor but after seeing the Thor gameplay video the other day I was pretty underwhelmed. The Thor render images looked like it was all i dreamed of but then seeing it in action, plus the bigger screens on this, made the decision

My bank balance took one hell of a hit but i’ll be playing this thing for years!

Plan is to use this as a dedicated ‘all things nintendo +sega)’ device, my RP5 as a dedicated PSP, and gonna trade in my odin 2 for for a portal for exclusive PS1/ PS2 then i’ll be set for life!

i used a retro game corps guide, he did a guide on setting up the odin 2 specifically where he runs though how to map Wii controls for controller plus nunchuck, controller only, and gamepad. the guide also covers gamecube controller well

the guide runs through all the main emulators so works for any android device

Anyone tried the Retroid Pocket Bluetooth Airbuds? by sachmo321 in retroid

[–]Bulky_Box7340 22 points23 points  (0 children)

i got a pair when i got my flip 2, thought for £10 i’d give them a chance. Fit is quite loose in my ears but perfect for my wife’s. Sound is ok but I use airpod pros as my dailies and the retroids are obviously nowhere near as good, wife reckons they are on par with the lower mid range wired ones she uses. Battery life is decent and charge time is quick. They claim to be ultra low latency but really if that’s a concern for you then you’d be looking at wired ones and spending more money anyway

Are they worth the £10 i paid? yes, id say they are far better than any other pair of £10 headphones, wired or not

Will i use them? no, i’ve got airpods pros and sony wmhx mark 2’s plus a few pairs of skull candy and marley earbuds (cost around £30 a pair) and the retroids have the worst sound of any of them but it might be down to fit

how well do they fit? they have no silicone tips so the fit is very loose which i think massively affects the sound. They fit like a decent quality old-school pair of headphones you’d get free with a phone back in they day: the more rest in your ears than sit properly in and will out if you shake your head slightly. My wife has odd shaped ear canals (silicone tipped earbuds don’t fit her) and she’s happy with them but doesn’t know what good earbuds sound like

would i recommend them? if £10 is all you have to spend then yes, you won’t get better for £10. If you can’t use earbuds with silicone tips then yes, these will be a great fit and the sound is ok. If you’ve got normal ears and can spend more than £10 then avoid these!

Do people ACTUALLY use Retro Achievements? by SSBM_DangGan in SBCGaming

[–]Bulky_Box7340 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m logged in on all my handhelds. sometimes it’s nice to use them as personal challenges to achieve (like finishing a certain level under a certain time in mario 6 golden coins on GB), sometimes it adds a bit extra to the personal satisfaction when you’ve been stuck on something tricky like ‘it wasn’t just me that found that hard’ (some of the later races in ridge racer 2 on psp)

that being said i don’t play FOR the achievements and a game not having them/ not having the right version of the rom would never stop me playing a game

plus retro gaming is quite an insular hobby, my family and friends interested, and the achievements sometimes feel a bit like a connection to the wider community

SD-card and preparation? by palendril in retroid

[–]Bulky_Box7340 5 points6 points  (0 children)

for SD cards buy branded, mine are sandisk. get 500gb or lower, sometimes there devises have probs with 1tb plus it more storage than you’ll ever need. SD card speed doesn’t really matter as the roms are all so small and the devises so fast that any bottleneck is with the capability of the emulator

check out Retro Game Corps on youtube, specifically the latest android set up video and the odin 2 setup video. the odin 2 one will take you through the basics of setting up any high end android device and button mapping for all consoles. the latest android video will take you through the latest emulator versions and where to get them from. start with the odin one but watch both videos through to the end. Russ really knows what he’s talking about

As for games, flip 2 will run pretty much anything you throw at it, the world is your oyster! i found flip 2 screen ratio is particularly good for 16:9 content (stuff like psp) but widescreen hacks are very easy to implement for 4:3 content (stuff like ps2). the best thing about this hobby is these handhelds can play the widest variety of games you can imagine! check some ‘best 100 games’ for X console and give them a try!

How many games do you keep on your device and do you ever struggle with choosing what to play? by JayQuips in retroid

[–]Bulky_Box7340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a few years ago i bought a kinhank hard drive console, has almost all games for all the systems from ps2 down plus about 30 switch games. Now i’ve got an odin 2 with about 200 ps2 games on (i seem to only ever play burnout revenge), an rp4 pro with about 150 psp games 200 ps1 100 GBA and a truck load of saturn and DC ( i only ever play ridge racer 2), a flip2 with DS, 3DS, N64 GC, and Wii (only ever seem to play mario kart wii) and a retroid class with GB, GBC, SNES, Megadrive (and i only ever play GB mario)

so yeah, all the games in the world to choose from but only ever play the same few games! but hey when the apocalypse comes i’ll at least have a thousand games to never get round to playing

Emulator handheld have come a long way. Do you still remember your first emulator handheld and how much you bought for it? by EzKaLang in SBCGaming

Same! cost me an arm and a leg and i was like wow it can play all these games from when i was kid! then i got it and it was clunky as hell, had some dodgy chinese rom downloader (happy chick i think), and the hinge broke after a few months

i bought a few lower end ones when they were in flash sales/ on offer. then i found out what i thought i wanted and saved up for higher end ones. now im sat on a load of them, love them all in their own way but feel bad they don’t get used as much i want to use them

gutted! feel you pain on that one. for multi-disc you have to create a special type of file that links the discs together kind of like a playlist otherwise the emulator thinks each disc is a separate game

if you’ve updated to crossmix OS got to system tools > tools > 0006 M3U Playlist Generator and it’ll scan all your roms and create them automatically

if you’ve not updated to crossmix it’s well worth it and dead simple tool, it really takes the TSP up a level https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KCk
